Thank you so much for sharing. There is a whole parallel world of joy out there on RUclips, thanks to decades of cinematic excellence. Helps with the disappointments of the real world.
Thank you for this. We need a good distraction from today's news and the horrible atmosphere of this election season, where we're seeing a level of ugliness never before witnessed. I miss the days when politics were boring...thank you again for making us smile. 🌹
What a charming film so nice to hear English spoken properly not mumbled like now they dont make films like this anymore they really dont thank you for loading please put more up.
I saw this over 5 decades ago...so loved it then, although I couldn't understand a lot of the incredible humor. To see it again, has been an utter delight. Thank you for posting this tremendous little gem.
Clive Brook and Roland Culver are a delightful team. Googie Withers and Beatrice Lillie are amazing. They each have such skill to enthrall the viewers. Clive Brook is the Director. The theme weaving the Story of Humans, using their dreams was intriguing and revealing.
This was a Play before they did this movie. All the Actors are wonderful. The tenth Duke's curmudgeonlyness. Mariah 's steadiness of obstinance. Helen's steadying and determined ways. Richard's kindness. It is an endearing display of talent. No rooms. Full. The new!! Ho!
How gorgeous the men looked in evening dress! A saw some wedding photos in a magazine recently; the bride wore the traditional white bridal gown, but the groom looked like he was wearing pyjamas, and the bride’s mother was dressed like an extra from a zombie movie. I do like how fashion is more relaxed and fun these days, but formal clothes look so elegant on a formal occasion.
The British have the innate ability to clearly see their own and others foibles, and then poke fun at them. As a cultural norm, they have a good sense of humour. 🇨🇦 ❤ 🇬🇧 😊
Yes, but in my opinion, they poked too much fun at themselves and many ungrateful people, living there took advantage. BTW I am not British, and do not live in the UK😂😂
At ~22:27 begins a dance sequence. If a dance is not invented or created anew for the movie, I think that the alternative is to copy former dance steps (FDS) of years gone by trying to conform with traditional steps, right? After all, if you are putting on a historical piece (regardless of stage or movie) with costumes, set decorations, etc., of a bygone era, you strive for accuracy, correct? I mention this because not having any way to identify, capture or communicate the FDS -- to my knowlege there's no "shorthand" or written descriptions for choreography -- such info must be passed along by word of mouth over the course of decades (amounting to centuries). THAT DYNAMIC -- that is the necessity of one-on-one oral transmission of FDS with kinetic illustrations over time -- intrigues me. (27 Oct 24). Am I communicating adequately? Any thoughts?
@@cristineconnell7803 Dear Double "C": I had to give up on the movie shortly after the dance, even though I like Brook and Withers. There are no captions. The background music is too loud for me to hear accurately, especially with the English accents. Dammit! (So, regardless of yr views on dance, plz lemme know how you liked the movie).
@@jonny-d5v We are not CC, but the wife and I enjoyed it immensely. I know what you mean about the loud music, but advance past it and watch the rest; it's so witty and cute. Brilliant comment about dance and history; you can look at old art, you can read old music, but dance? Before photography? You're right, must have been handed down by teaching, demonstration, parent to child, teacher to pupil.
Oh, you poor thing! My heart bleeds for you! For those of you claiming to find this film "boring" or "terrible" or "bilge", etc., I suggest you endeavour to find a sense of humour under all that superiority you wear so proudly! You might get more joy out of life!

Hilarious. What a lovely film!!

Totally agree
Unfortunately , that’s how it got to this state- better to actually SEE what was going on hidden for decades…

A delightful romp!
Please watch ANY film with Googie Withers in it - she's wonderful.
I liked it so much. So funny.
Beatrice Lillie is just a ripping delight!
great movie . . . many thanks
Clever, crafty script. Acted with relish by a quartet of smooth comedians.
Thank you! I've never seen this movie before. Enjoyable.

Many bandaged thumbs up! Ouch! We loved it.
Love it. Thank you!
Enjoyed that!
Thankyou 🎉
What a lovely little proper Victorian romance...very entertaining. A cheerful 4☆'s
Great movie and actors
Quite enjoyed this one
Thank you!! Googie Withers!!!
This was really delightful. I only wish that captioning had been available.
Sure has the flavor of Oscar Wilde.
British have a certain kind of humor. Can't put my finger quite on it.
Stirred not Shaken, and very Dry.
Because it's subtle, witty. Now over-the-top is the norm, and it's not so funny.
Its taking off Oscar Wilde, very fashionable in the Edwardian era of early 1900s.
The English speak their language so beautifully.

The 4 Sillies.
Although I adore Googie Withers, I have wonder why they didn't get an American to play an American.

Not a dancer, you certainly sound like 1! Just beginning the movie myself!

There is shorthand for dance, I don't remember who developed it or what it's called. Think it's French.

@@FlipDahlenburg Maybe you are thinking of Labanotation, developed by Rudolf von Laban?

Loved Hollywood before all that boring censuring😅
"wizlak"....pOLISH?
Utter bilge: I had to stop watching this feeble parody of Oscar Wilde. Awful.
