  • Hey, guys! Here is another Hardware Session using the Keystep Pro... this time with Volcas rather than Boutiques. 😉 Really loving this setup!
    Anyways, for this jam I am using the Keystep Pro to sequence and control all of the synths including the Volca Drum. I have the drum track sequencing the Volca Drum and the 3 melodic tracks for the Volca FM, Volca Bass, and Volca Keys.
    All of the audio is sent to the Behringer XENYX802 mixer and then recorded using my new ZOOM H6! 🙂
    Alright, well I hope you guys enjoy the video. Thank you guys so much for watching, littlebigsynths. 👊😁

    Awesome! And so many bonus points for the routing setup infographic at 4:33! As someone with an op-z, behringer cat, and m-audio keystation 61 it's really important to figure out what are ways other people connect their setup, to help me figure out connecting mine.

    Cool video and sound with "retrowave" feeling, whatever that means lol. My wishlist for an even more powerful version of Keystep Pro (Super-duper Keystep): 1. Full size keys, 3 octaves 2. 8 drum pads and drum velocity outs next to the gates 3. one or two additional tracks 4. internal midi splitter with four MIDI outs 5. arp and time div controls off the keyboard 6. ability to set pitch mod range right above the strip. 7. More memory.

    (I should know, I've owned Roland Juno 106, JX8P, full semi modular System 100, S330 Sampler, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Cheetah MS6, Yamaha DX7II and now Korg Volca Drum, Volca Sample 2 and next on my list- Volca FM!)

    Just got my KSP, and, certainly loving it. Thanks to your shared videos, it's made life a lot easier....much appreciated. Thanks for all your work. I was able to set up Volca Drums along with the NTS-1 and worked well. I used the instructions you had provided on a different video. One problem I ran into is that I then added the Modal Skulpt Synth and it appears that I must have the Mac (or PC) connected so the Modal App can be opened. Seems I can not get it to work standalone. Yet, going to do some research and see why this is the case. It works on its own as standalone, yet, not sequenced by my KSP for whatever reason, just hoping it is a darn MIDI setting I need to change/enable and/or disable. If anyone has used it w/Skulpt, please let me know if its worked for you, and if so, how. Thanks!

    Hey nice spacey track ! And thanks 2 4 given me a hint how i should finish up my hobby setup i slowly growing bigger the last 2 years and i get most of it used but in very good shape and the Minilogue XD even with a fully year of warranty besides of the damn good price that nice guy sells me 2 yrs ago and mby he just put a KORG seed in my Brain cause all of the other magical sound machines are also KORGS now... strange ha !? But i didn't get a really good centerpiece jet and as much i like the SQ64's Matrix, and it would be even one more in the Family i think i should try first the Arturia-BSP from what i read and saw until now. Mby some of you nice people here could say me what you would use if you already have a little setup on your desk what includes a Minilogue xd an Sample 2 and a NTS-1 ? For DAW less Recording and to sequence it all out of these nice little things. What would you use to not get just boring and not Progressing Steps and be able to change and evolve it live ?
    SQ-64, BSP, or mby even just another of the fam like mby the Nu-Bass or Volca Beat ?

      I have one, but it is a love/hate relationship for me. While it does offer lots, it is also missing lots, especially when compared to the original Keystep and the Beatstep Pro, which offers more in some areas and does things better. I find the midi implementation very weak and doesn't hold a candle to my older Novation, which the KSP replaced. I do hope future firmwares iron out a lot of the problems and help close the gap on features that are missing.

    Bro this is so dope.
    I’m trying to do something similar with my Volca collection.
    I have the FM1, the Bass, the Drum and the Keys.
    The Volcas sync together no problem, and I have them running into a midi hub and a line mixer to my audio interface, but the KSP only controls my Fm, not any of my other Volcas even though I have them set to the right channels.
    So all the Volcas sync together and whatnot but I can only control and sequence the FM, none of the other Volcas.
    Oh, and I can’t hear any of this out of my monitors, only when I have headphones plugged in to my interface…no matter what I do in my DAW, computer settings and settings on the KSP.
    I’m so confused lol.

    Your videos are the best man,
    I have a question and your the only volca expert I can think of that might be able to help me.
    I just purchased the korg sq 64 sequencer
    To use with my 4 volcas. (Fm,keys,bass,sample2)
    I can’t seem to figure out how to use them with the sq64 and assign the 4 tracks with my 4 volcas.
    It’s a very confusing cryptic device.
    Was wondering if you are familiar with the korg sq 64
    And could maybe give a little advice.
    Thanks and keep the great videos coming.

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! 😊👍 Glad you enjoyed the video.
      To sequence multiple Volcas from an external sequencer, you will need a MIDI THRU box and a few MIDI cables ( 1 per device). You will the. Need to assign each Volca to a specific MIDI channel. Eg. Volca Keys = channel 1; Volca Bass = channel 2; etc.
      Then you will need to assign each sequencer track of the SQ64 to the corresponding output channels. Eg. Track 1 = MIDI out channel 1; Track 2 = MIDI OUT channel 2; etc.
      I have a couple of videos that might help.... but you should definitely forever to the owners manual for specifics. 👍

  • @markmanter6508
    @markmanter6508 9 месяцев назад

    Can this only be done with a Keystep 37?
    I have a Keylab 49 and can only control one of my Volcas at a time.
    If I got some sort of midi thru box, would I be able to control or enable sequences with my Keylab? Or would I need a Keystep to do this?
    Or is this feature something only available on the Keystep?
    My Keylab only has MIDI Out and usb out to my computer so I’m a bit confused how to do what you did here or if I even can.
    Is it possible to control multiple synths with the Keylab or would I need to go with the Keystep??
    Does the Keystep have dual MIDI out? Because I noticed you have MIDI out 1 on your Keystep going to the thru box and then to 3 of your Volcas, but then MIDI Out 2 goes only to 1 Volca….what does this do? Especially if all the Volcas are synced together?
    And also why do the audio outs from the Volcas for the most part go to your mixer but then the audio out from 1 of the Volcas goes to the NTS 1 audio in port and then the audio out from the NTS 1 goes to 3 of the Volcas plus the mixer?
    And then does the clock/sync cable from the Keystep go to the NTS 1 in order to control…what?
    Tbh I’m a bit controlled over what clock/sync does…is that the same concept as syncing the Volcas together through sync in and out?
    Im a little confused about the order of the chain you’re doing with midi I/ofor the midi thru box and what clock/sync does.
    I only have the Volca FM at the moment but will be getting either the Volca Bass and Volca Drum or Keys within the next week or two, and since I’m able to control the FM with my Keylab, I was just trying to see if once I sync more Volcas together if I would be able to control them with my Keylab 49 as I do with the FM, or if the Keystep 37 would be a better choice for what I’m doing.
    Pls help.

    This is almost identical to the setup I'm acquiring. The keystep pro looks incredibly useful, but is it worth the high price? I do need something to fill that role of midi controller/sequencer. My aim was low budget yet well-rounded, and it feels wrong for the keyboard to be as expensive as all the synths combined...

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  4 года назад +1

      Yes! If you can spend a little more and just get the Keystep Pro... I would definitely reccomend it over the BSP.
      The BSP is a good sequencer, but the Keystep Pro has so much more to offer. Using KEYS to input notes or play live, is a huge advantage over using PADS in my opinion. It's also nice that you can switch track 1 from a melodic to drum sequencer, or tracks 2 - 4 from melodic sequencers to arpeggiators. 😁 It also has polyphonic sequencing capabilities, which is also very useful. 🙂
      Lots of great features to be honest. Plus, Arturia is good at providing firmware updates that can add new features or enhance existing features. 👍
