So fun fact: if those candles are made of tallow (very common before the Renaissance btw) *and* is a pillar pour (which they look to be), those suckers could have been lit weeks ago. Tallow burns extremely slowly; and a pillar candle's the same width and height so they're basically self-sustaining unless they're blown out by an extremely strong wind or a snuffer.
I was thinking the same thing! i had a mental image of a noblewoman carrying a whole stack of 20 planks everywhere. I know its a video game and you need to handwave some things but still.. Shes a way better woodworker than anyone i know 🤣

Makes you appreciate medieval folk's love for Incense.
I always wondered about the logistics of that. Like in what way would lighting every candle be either safe or practical. I know myself I've used practical candles during a storm surge but I had never lit all the candles at once
I hope the devs realize how hilarious the bob the builder mechanic is. I dont think I can the this game seriously when you're playing as a slavic woman who is lugging 20 2x4s and a screwdriver through a castle so she can build a wall if the wall moss starts hunting her
A fun fact i ran into a while back about old school candles. Some candles were made to last about 12 hours, and people use to use them as early method alarm clocks. Theyd put nails in the sides of the candles in varying increments, and when the candle would melt to that point, the nail would drop into a metal tin beneath it :3

Thus, it hinders his movement and possible scape routes. And also, there's some parts where he had to go to look for something and then go back to another place, just think about it, really, please do.

to answer ur question about pumpkin carving at the beginning, no pumpkins specifically are a newer tradition. pumpkins are native to the America's, but the tradition comes from older European pagan roots. rutabagas or turnips were most traditional before pumpkins were established, but it was more of a "whatever is most handy" situation pre-contact with the America's. the first time Jack-o-Lantern was recorded to refer to a carved pumpkin specifically was in 1837 (we think).

I don't know if you edit how your voice sounds, but I like that is sounds different depending on how large the room you're in sounds (it's especially noticeable when you cross the tunnel @9:20 and larger room with a slight echo right after). Very well done!

There are so many things about this game that I find hilarious. Like how you pick up a 6x6 piece of wood and somehow turn it into boards. Then you use a screwdriver in medieval times to hammer the boards together. Also the torch sounds like a bonfire. I'm not hating on the game. I think it's great. It's just a little goofy is all.
I can feel my sphincter clench and my heart rate go up watching you play without more caution moving around in this game, and I'm wearing a heart monitor device from home. I can imagine the medical staff are wondering why I am having random heart rate spikes.
@@AbbyAZK It's not just horror games that make my heart rate go up. I could be doing something as simple as sitting reading a book or laying down to sleep. I'm working on my health by getting in better shape which is part of the problem. The heart monitor is to determine if it's a heart problem or if I have anxiety.
That's so frustrating that you can't see anything through the crates when the torch is lit. That's not how light works. Those spaces are plenty big enough for light to pass through.
It depends on the size of the original candle, but those thick candles can be lit from 50-100 hours if I remember correctly. Small tiny ones though, maybe a day at best.

Indie asked about candles. I got curious. So I looked. Candles have differing burn times depending on wax type and diameter, with thicker candles burning longer than taller ones. Judging by the candle on the barrel at 9:42, my best guess is these are straight taper candles, most similar to Horizon Candles' unscented straight candles. These candles are roughly an inch in diameter, and roughly 10 inches tall. If they are Paraffin Wax candles, they will burn for roughly 10 hours. If they are beeswax, they will burn for 16.5 hours.

The game is all crypts/dungeons and nothing of the upper castle. Like windows to the outside atmosphere, castle decorations, furnishing, etc. Definitely comparing it to Amnesia but this game has a lot of cut and paste rooms and hallways vibe. Not a bad game though.
Well towards the end the game clearly directs us to the "tower" so in the next chapters I imagine we're climbing. Either way did not feel copy and paste at all to me.
Jack-o-lanterns came to be in North America. Originally on Halloween they carved turnips into little faces in Europe because they didn't have pumpkins. When the practice was brought to the colonies they started using pumpkins instead.
So ,small almost irrelevant fact about candles , way back then and still today tallow candles were made from animal fat and can apparently burn for 30 hours , still wouldn’t be lit in an abandoned castle or anything but animal fat candles (lard candles or tallow candles) lasted much longer than other regular wax candles which at its best quality can last 12-20 hours but that’s todays candles , back then they had to use what they had and what they had was animal fat/grease which does burn longer than wax . I just thought it would be fun to share , that’s also how they kept torches lit , animal grease :) super flammable and slow burning
1 rule to follow to not break immersion in most games that use candles for lighting, never question the candles being lit everywhere forever, some games may actually have a reason for them to be lit but other more rough games dont give many, if any, reasons for it

That sound effect opening the portcullis with the wheel brought flashbacks of Quake.
The monster design is quite creepy. It's refreshing and I both hate and love it.

The visuals in this game are like a good mod for ES: Oblivion...except with better lighting. This just came out? Dang.

The game is all crypts/dungeons and nothing of the upper castle. Like windows to the outside atmosphere, castle decorations, furnishing, etc. Definitely comparing it to Amnesia but this game has a lot of cut and paste rooms and hallways vibe. Not a bad game though.
Well towards the end the game clearly directs us to the "tower" so in the next chapters I imagine we're climbing. Either way did not feel copy and paste at all to me.

Jack-o-lanterns came to be in North America. Originally on Halloween they carved turnips into little faces in Europe because they didn't have pumpkins. When the practice was brought to the colonies they started using pumpkins instead.
So ,small almost irrelevant fact about candles , way back then and still today tallow candles were made from animal fat and can apparently burn for 30 hours , still wouldn’t be lit in an abandoned castle or anything but animal fat candles (lard candles or tallow candles) lasted much longer than other regular wax candles which at its best quality can last 12-20 hours but that’s todays candles , back then they had to use what they had and what they had was animal fat/grease which does burn longer than wax . I just thought it would be fun to share , that’s also how they kept torches lit , animal grease :) super flammable and slow burning

1 rule to follow to not break immersion in most games that use candles for lighting, never question the candles being lit everywhere forever, some games may actually have a reason for them to be lit but other more rough games dont give many, if any, reasons for it
