I then proceeded to hide in a corner while fighting off five of the ghosts.
This music was so fucking awesome when exploring the Space Pirate lab for the first time. Reading all the computer monitors as all the text got creepier and creepier. Reading about you as "the Hunter" was cool too.

I first played Metroid Prime when I was 8 years old. I remember it taking me several months to beat because I would never go to the Phazon Mines. They were too scary
I know what you mean bro. When I was younger I was always scared shitless by that theme and the pirates, to the point where I quit the game for years when I learned that I had to go back to their lairs to retrieve the Chozo lore needed to beat the game (honestly, I don't know how I managed to get that far in the first place). However, I reseted my save file and started a new game of Metroid Prime on my 20th birthday as a way to find some closure with this game. Needless to say, the Space Pirates were the ones shitting their pants when I entered the room this time. Revenge never felt better.
Tyler Durden Neither space pirates nor this music was scary for me, it was walking through those dark hallways and rooms, dieing of suspense waiting for metroids to spawn. This soundtrack just made me really tense and got my blood pumping like nothing else. Those jetpack pirates can all go fall in lakes and freeze to death.
I do like how MP1 took the limited environmental storytelling approach where you slowly reveal thru text the context of what's going on, a la the FromSoft method that's common now in their games....no doubt they were at least a bit inspired by MP

Mike Joestar LMAO. That's true. I'd like for the Space Pirate AIs to be more intelligent in future Metroid games. Still, they are ferocious and very relentless.
Blasting_Techno Actually they are quite relentless in the games, specially in Hypermode, I was referring to a random scan in the second game, in Agon Wastes where they are experimenting with Metroids.
I remember this being a scary intense part of the game. I was actually very surprised when I ran into the space pirate base in Phendrana drifts. Thought it was hard and died a ton. Now I realize you just blast each one with two missiles and dodge and it gets pretty easy. Still a very intense and well done part of the game. It was fun to read the space pirate ego-driven logs with their high ambitions to build a space station and a standing army. Reminds you of the Nazi army.
I think one thing really cool about the space pirates is how smart they are. They aren't just stupid goons like Mario goombas or bokoblins(except botw)
god yeah, so smart. that's why their bases are full of morph ball-sized tubes, save stations only people with huge arm cannons can use, and doors that require shooting them to open as opposed to, i dunno, a password
So much people saying this song creeped them out when they were younger. YOUNGER? THIS STILL CREEPS ME OUT! When I hear this theme I say *fuck it I'll just go to work early.*
The Phendrana labs really terrified me with this song and the absolute dark when I was a kid. It was a huge relief when you reach the top of the tower and there's sunlight, for a while.
On god the lab sections in this game are terrifying, I’m only playing it for the first time with the remaster for switch, but yeah some of the sections are really well designed to make you feel like you’re trapped in the middle of this lab full of alien space pirates
@@bunnyben87 it just feels like really claustrophobic as well, and the fact that the section goes on for a decent amount of time makes you feel like you’re really stuck in there, especially if you die a couple times meaning you take longer.
This reminds me of all these times where I’m sure I cleared the room, but there’s still one Space Pirate two levels higher running in circles or just waiting in the shadows, and I have to go find it to kill it 😂
