    We found Frndly a better and more economical choice for what we watch on TV. Frndly also has "Local" which offers us news that the way more expensive Philo does not. The reason why we cut the cord was to save money.Frndly does a better job of doing just that.

    You folks really nailed it 👏👏👏👏👏👏
    IMO these two services are worth every penny of their subscription price, IF you don't care about sports and locals channels, and they are both easily supplemented by services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO MAX, etc., while keeping your monthly costs low.
    A little research on these two services can save you a LOT of money and aggregation.
    In these times of high prices, these two services offer REAL VALUE for a reasonable price.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  2 года назад +3

      Completely agreed. They both serve a much needed role in the market, especially for those who don't need sports/locals & don't need a premium service - like you said. That's a big reason why we're proponents of using an OTA, if you can, so it doesn't force you into choosing a higher-priced service.

    Nice video! I never watched any of the Viacom/ViacomCBS/Paramount networks. I only watched the Discovery networks, the Turner networks, and the Disney networks. When I can’t find something on live, I just go to their streaming services. I feel like with the push to streaming, live TV might fade away, and we’ll just have sports networks, local stations, and “news” networks.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! We think we're going to start to see more of that as time goes on. Beyond these two and Sling, live services will price themselves out at some point. You can cobble together your own bundle of a couple on-demand services and an OTA and you could save some decent money. We're already starting to see it some with the growth in free, ad-supported platforms.

    One thing that I forgot to mention is that I wish Philo would update their guide so that when you search the guide for other channels and programs, what you are currently watching continues playing in the background like it does on other services.
    As it is when you pull-up the guide you exit the channel you are watching and if you want to continue watching it you have to re-select that channel from the guide.
    I don't remember whether the Frndly guide works the same way or not.

      I have T-Mobile and Philo but keep them separate because I still have the original Philo plan for $16/month, as they have pledged to honor the cost even as their current plan has gone up in cost. My fear is that if I go through T-Mobile, they will pass the cost of future Philo costs increases to the customer. That’s what happened with T-Mobile’s free Netflix. When Netflix raises the cost, T-Mobile passed the increase to the customers. It’s no longer free but still a great deal.

    Testing Frndly out now and so far not really impressed. Biggest issue is their program guide. There should be an option to start streaming as soon as you click on a channel. Having to click the channel then click watch is an extra unnecessary click. Another issue is when you go back from a live stream to the guide it does not hightlight the channel you were just watching. instead it highlights the channel at the top of the guide.
    Not sure why so many of the developers who create the apps for these streaming services have such a hard time making quality user friendly GUI/UX. Most likely I will be canceling my Frndly subscription before the 7 day trial ends.

    We have tried Sling, RUclips, Fubo, Frndly TV, and Philo TV. We would prefer the economy of Frndly TV or Philo TV. However, Frndly TV forces a time limit on contiguous viewing (we leave our TV on for our pet). There is annoying noises coming from Philo TV (we tried different remotes, cleared cache, uninstalled apps, checked internet speeds, and actually proved that we could identify that Philo broadcasts were the culprit (the same show on Fubo and You Tube TV were noise free unlike Philo). We notified Philo and they have escalated the ticket to their tech team. Hopefully, Frndly TV eliminates their time restriction or gives its customers the ability to bypass it if they have more than enough bandwidth.
