Those pickups sound great but, I'm sure a lot of it comes down to it being Jack playing a guitar with them in. He could play the back of the guitar and make it sound awesome :)
They are really natural yet they don’t lack sparkle and clarity. They let the guitar breath and I think these complement your playing more. All the best! Melodic is the way to go!!! Proper musicianship here
Congrats, Mr. Gardiner 👏🏻. Each pickup delivers its specific sound 🎸, and all positions sound really good 🎼🎵🎶. I have a slight preference for the combinations with the middle pickup (positions 4 and 2) 👍🏻, especially position 4 - without the Dynamix switch - (5:16 to 5:21) which really sounds funky to my ears 🤩🤩 !!!
Hello Jack, In a comment onanoter video about your pickups I suggested you make a comparison video between the original Hyperion pickups and your signature pickups. You said that could be possible because you have a 7-string AZ. I am on the fence buying the Oni set since I really don't like the Hyperions, but it's quite a leap of faith since there is no return option if I don't like them.
Sounds really good! I have the same Ibanez (your first impressions video got me to buy it, haha). For me the stock pickups sound a bit dull. I have a Quad Cortex since a few days. Is the Preset you are playing through stock on the Quad Cortex? I used a Helix extensively and I have the impression the Quad Cortex has a more "open" sound and that helps a lot with the Ibanez. For me it is difficult assessing these new pickups since you have a generally bright sound. Are these a lot brighter than the Hyperions?
Hey man! Thanks so much haha! It’s such a great instrument! I don’t think it’s a stock preset I used here. From memory I used a Brit 2203 with some reverb and delay. They’re not much brighter than the Hyperion’s - I think that’s just my tastes blurring the lines haha. From what Hugo said, they have maybe more definition in the mids. They’re more like a 60’s strat!
Amazing tone. I was wondering if what we are hearing is directly the tone of the recorded guitar or if there was some equalization, compression, etc done on your DAW to process the recorded signal?
Thanks man! 🙏 This one is just the Tone King Imperial MKII from Neural DSP (using my GSOTQM Clean Preset) for cleans and then a patch I made for the Quad Cortex for dirty sounds. No EQ/compression etc. afterwards other than Izotope Ozone on the Master Bus (for volume/loudness).
@@JackGardiner thanks for the reply! Another question. Are the pickups a direct replacement to the AZ pickups? Or did you do any other mods, changed treble bleed, etc?
Man, I’d love to have these in my Sire S7, but I’d have to take it to a luthier to get the cavity sizes adjusted and get permission from the wife. But Christmas is coming…
@@JackGardinera lot has changed in the last year! I’m still looking at these, because overall I’m offloading a lot of gear. I don’t think I really need a $3500 guitar, lol. Once I sell that, I’ll likely be picking up a Harley Benton and adding these to it!
Hey Neil. Thanks for the interest! The pickups are available on Reverb now. I hope it's easier for you. You can write me an email if you need more info.
Hi Jack I can die for you man. After Satriani, you are one of the best guitarists in the world for me. You're super clear, excellent touch sensitivity and sharpness guitar player. When your sharper playing and the mellow hyperion (a magnetic with the opposite effect) are combined, a perfect balance emerges. It's like a combination of a smooth flow and an ultra sharpness. But this pickup itself is very sharp and when combined with your sharp playing, an extra aggressiveness emerges. Also these pickups seem a bit too high on high mids. I think your signature tone is definitely a combination of hyperion and neural dsp. As if it was completely perfected by a divine power. But if you're happy, it's okay, but as someone who listens to you over and over again every day, if you say which one do you get tone-gasms while listening, this is definitely my answer..
Man! Thank you so much for all of those kind words and for the support! I really appreciate it! We decided to change pickups around the time we were writing the new music. Basically I wanted something more traditional and that allowed my dynamics to work differently. The Hyperions are great for certain styles but they don’t really sound like a ‘strat’ in the same way to me. They’re a little more ‘compressed’ (for want of a better word) to my ears. I think the aggressiveness might actually come from the tones I’m using (gain wise) - something I’m still dialling in! Honestly though - thanks for your thoughts man! ❤️🙏
@@JackGardiner Ohh now I get the point. Hyperion is definitely not a classic strat tone, I totally agree with that, in fact, it's pretty far from strat. We can just say a Strat-ish tone. As I understand your point now, yes these pickups will totally serve what you wrote above. Less compress, more vintage strat tone.. Thanks for helping me understand, We love you

truly clean and glassy sound..i love it..

So clear and so sweet at the same time! These sound like a serious set of pickups! Nice work
