      I do know Dutch, & I have to tell you, Hans is an amazing commentator. He knows so much history, both of the sport and of individual gymnasts. I would rather listen to him than almost anyone besides Mitch & Christine, who do the BBC commentary. But also, Dutch is a lovely language. I learned it when I lived there years ago & listen to these vids as a way to keep my mind in the language & learn new stuff.

    I don't know why everybody assumes Alicia and Rebecca are talking about other gymnasts. They could have inside jokes, and since they trained together probably had a strong friendship. I know it might look like that in that situation, but you can't ensure that.
    I thought Aliya had better form in twists in these years, but I see she didn't. And I didn't know she used to cry after failing.
    Anna Dementyeva's form is absolutely perfect and Ana Porgras' artistry and elegance is like no other gymnast's ever
    Deng looks so young and she even went to the Olympics two years before that

    After watching this, I think the execution scores are absolutely deserved. Sacramone's execution is even that great in this final. Her leaps lack height and she doesn't hit her splits. There's a general lack of extension and multiple balance checks. There are also questionable connections.
    Her acrobatic elements are very impressive, but the rest of it opens her up to deductions.

    I find Rebecca Bross to be mechanical, robotic, and emotionless. It seemed that Valeri was able to translate Nastia's artistry somewhat into Katelyn Ohashi, but not Rebecca Bross.

    • @destiny236231
      @destiny236231 8 лет назад +2

      Well think about it, Katelyn is less of a power gymnast and Rebecca definitely does not fit the style of Nastia or Katelyn. Valeri made her routines work for her while still including most of the classic Woga routine elements. He knew she wasn't super graceful or good at pirouettes on bars so he added more releases, etc.

    • @kamilaford5752
      @kamilaford5752 8 лет назад +2

      +Ilise Angel +Ilise Angel +Ilise Angel +Ilise Angel Honestly I don't think Katelyn is less of a power gymnast than Rebecca. Katelyn did a layout full on beam, arabian, several other difficult combos on beam and a full in double pike dismount. Rebecca did an arabian on beam, but majority of her other skills on beam weren't near the difficulty of Katelyn's besides her double arabian dismount. On bars they have the same releases (tkachev and jaeger) except for the fact that Rebecca does a van leeuwen, but Katelyn does a double double dismount which is more difficult than a van leeuwen. Besides their releases on bars, both are kind of matched in difficulty in pirouettes depending on whether you think in bar 1/1s or spins on one arm are more difficult because they're both E skills. On vault both do a double Yurchenko so they're even on that event. On floor they both have a 6.1 D score, but Katelyn does more double saltos which is more characteristic of power gymnasts, in my opinion.

    • @deenibeeniable
      @deenibeeniable 7 лет назад +5

      The whole sport is going in that direction, unfortunately. The really graceful/artistic gymnasts seem to be in the minority.

  • @blakegillpuente3904
    @blakegillpuente3904 9 лет назад +11

    To clear up a few things: Sacramone made nearly zero mistakes. She was awarded the highest execution (E) score of the whole beam final. Since her difficulty (D) score was only a 6.1, she did not medal. I think she knew she wouldn't, and she was probably okay with that.
    What I believe annoyed Sacramone and Bross was the fact that despite a few visible errors and a couple form issues, Porgras somehow received an E score only .1 lower than Sacramone. She absolutely did not have the 2nd best execution that night, and she certainly wasn't that close to Sacramone's execution. If it weren't for her E score, she would not have overtaken Bross. That's probably why they looked so pissy about it. Porgras is an amazing athlete and a beautiful gymnast to watch (her D score was 6.6). We know that, and so did Alicia and Rebecca, I'm sure. What sucks is that she did have some errors in her routine, and it seems they weren't deducted as much as they should have been. Honestly, other than some minor form issues, I would have placed Mitchell over Porgras, too.

    • @Gutsufan-gb6md
      @Gutsufan-gb6md 9 лет назад +16

      Blake Gill She has a balance check on the layout and on her scale at the beginning. Each a 0.1 balance check. Other than that she has very few deductions and she has better rhythm then both the Americans which the judges reward. She has very little hesitation or "set up time" between skills which the judges like. She also had more difficulty. To place her below Mitchell (who is amazing) is ridiculous and she was also better than Rebecca on this day as well. Her form is exquisite, dunno what you're talking about there. Better choreography and presentation than all of them too. This was a well deserved gold.

    • @blakegillpuente3904
      @blakegillpuente3904 9 лет назад +1

      +Gutsufan3 3333333 She definitely deserved to medal, and yeah- her fluidity/presentation was much prettier than pretty much everyone in this final. However, she mad several pretty noticeable mistakes that make it very hard for me to believe she had only .1 separating her execution from Sacramone. She had the two you mentioned, but she also landed with her chest low on her back tuck (after the leap), low landing on dismount, step greater than shoulder-width on the dismount, and her legs were also separated on her layout- then, of course the two balance checks you mentioned. She is beautiful to watch, and even this performance was worthy of a high E score, but it wasn't clean enough to be only a tenth lower than Sacramone who had no bobbles or hesistations and also had minimal form breaks in her routine.
      Anyway, my original intent wasn't to argue Porgras' s score so much as to say (to those who are saying nasty things about the Americans looking displeased with the scoring) that if those of us who are untrained can see clearly the errors in a routine, it doesn't seem to add up that she scored got the 2nd best E Score, and was only 2nd best by .1 of a point. I don't think Bross was underscored- girl has form issues, too.

    • @Gutsufan-gb6md
      @Gutsufan-gb6md 9 лет назад +5

      Blake Gill Ok so I looked at her routine again and these are the deductions I've got.
      Balance check on scale - 0.1
      Balance check on layout - 0.1
      Leg separation on layout - 0.1
      Low landing on tuck back - 0.3
      Low landing on dismount - 0.3 (with these low landings it is possible the judges only took 0.1 because i believe they only take 0.3-0.5 if the chest is parallel or past parallel to the floor but correct me if i am wrong)
      Leg separation on dismount - 0.1
      Flexed feet on dismount - 0.1
      All ads up to 1.1 in deductions. 10-1.1=8.9 which is roughly the score she got.
      I think they could of been a little bit more classy about it, but i certainly don't think there's anything wrong with showing their disappointment. Its certainly nothing to harp on about I agree. I haven't scrutinized the american girls routines to see their minor errors but I think Porgras score was correct.

    • @raras889
      @raras889 9 лет назад +1

  • @nathaliexlr8
    @nathaliexlr8 8 лет назад +5

    6:14 I know it's just one shot here, but I hate it when they do that in any competition lol. No one cares about the feet and no one can see what the gymnast did. If you want to make your program "look good" because of cool shots, gymnastics isn't the place for that. Save it for a movie. There was even a beam final in which there was an overload of panning and zooming out far away, which, unsurprisingly, got some complaints. I literally wanted to slap the camera crew and producer lol

  • @mocneeuq

    The time when worlds beam finals actually has solid lineup with only 2 falls at most.. Nowadays most of the finalists falls. And OMG Aliya has really matured but she is much prettier here in 2010, LOL

    • @nathaliexlr8
      @nathaliexlr8 8 лет назад +11

      +Gracie C. Yeah watched a 2015 beam final and over half of all the finalists fell. Long ago there would even be NO falls at all. Gymnasts today are extremely disappointing, not only because of the countless errors but also all the routines nowadays just lack essence. Almost all feel like they're not worth watching. I really miss the gymnastics from years ago. Seems like gymnastics is going downhill.

    • @JimmyZoole
      @JimmyZoole 8 лет назад +2

      +nathaliexlr8 If you want to see every gymnasts hit their boringly easy routine, you can watch collegiate gymnastics.

    • @nathaliexlr8
      @nathaliexlr8 8 лет назад +4

      Dennis G Did I ever say I like easy routines? Sorry, but I cringe every time I see an easy-ass routine like Lieke Wever's. Just because you have a difficult routine doesn't mean you have the excuse to fall. Gymnasts nowadays are killing themselves to have all the most difficult skills possible and as a result they more often than not fall or have balance checks. Shawn Johnson had great difficulty in Beijing but did you see her having balance checks everywhere and falling here and there?

    • @JimmyZoole
      @JimmyZoole 8 лет назад

      There are plenty of current gymnasts who have very difficult routines and hit them every time. When is the last time you saw Simone fall off the beam? You're being dramatic. Gymnastucs is harder now (as it should be - it's a sport). Harder skills means more people might fall.

      it's entitlement. they think because they are american they deserve a medal just for showing up. Similar to when the USA filed a stupid appeal after Laurie got a lower score than Sanne in the 2016 olympic beam final (Laurie had a D score of 6.5 all year and now they wanted to challenge it?) and the pissy looks on their faces after Aliya outscored Kocian on bars.

    I hope Yana Demyanchuk watched herself on TV because _what_ were those lines that year? Not to be offensive - as I am appreciative of true professional gymnastics, coming from the life of an acro-dancer and should not be judging - but my face was like 😕, 🤭, 😬.

    • @krisuler7734
      @krisuler7734 6 лет назад

      What exactly did you mean by lines?? I personally couldn't believe her awful flexed foot during her L turn wtf!! How do you not point your foot?!! Also..I know it is nitpicky but her leotard being undone in the back at her beck really bothered me, she just looked so untidy and messy.

    • @calebc.4343
      @calebc.4343 6 лет назад

      By lines, a person means the literal line that your entire body, especially your leg(s), will make during your movement. And no nitpicking, honey, it was clearly MUCH more than that one L-turn.

      Kris Uler the flexed foot was intentional. Notice how she clearly points it at the end. It’s more common in modern/contemporary dance. She doesn’t have a nice toe point in general, though. She was not my favorite by any means. This video made me realize how much I miss Ana Porgras and the sad state of Romanian gymnastics today.
