Exactly my thought. The plastic base and paint jobs on the original model is a complete joke, especially compared to older casting which had metallic base.
New el camino 80' from HW (2023) is similar to this one, blue mettalic paint, subtle silver lines on body. This is better ofc, but 2023 version is must have.

Very nice custom/restomod Elco Aki!! Two-tone paint job turned out sweet, I was wondering what you were doing with the masking tape. That wood bed is awesome, though I am surprised that you did not add in some tubs to cover the rear wheels.

Nicely done. I held off buying this El Camino because I usually don't get cars manufactured after the 70's but I finally gave in due to the dearth of Hot Wheels available lately. But I too had to rescue it from that ridiculous paint job and purple wheels. But not as nice as yours. Maybe a future project...

How you can keep the paint on the car after you pull the tape out i sanded my truck hot wheels that i cuztomised but after i pull the tape off some chuncks of paint come off the tape 😢 dont know if it was the tape or dont know what i did wrong 😢
Noob customizer here. What glue are u using to bond metal tubes to plastic. The glue I bought from hobby lobby won’t bond to the brass tube I got

It looks so much better in normal form. They’ve been making the El Camino goofy for years. Always this crazy colored pink red and yellow tired machine. I have those same wheels I bought 2 years ago. They’re the best quality metal ones for the price. Not as fancy with brakes but still best deal.

These questions are to all of you whining about the way that Hot Wheels made this particular casting of the Chevrolet El Camino. Do any of you work for Mattel? Do any of you actually own one of these vehicles in real life? If the answers to those questions are no, then shut your pie holes! A 1980s design deserves a 1980s look.
