OoT is a story about growing up and leaving childhood behind. When we are children we believe in stuffed toys and magic and need someone to hold our hand. That changes when we grow up. Navi leaving is symbolic of Link leaving childhood behind. It's like a kid packing away their toys. In Majora's Mask, a game about moving on and memory, Link is searching for her the way many people try to recapture their childhood before eventually moving on.
if navi is capable of growing into a great fairy, why not a queen fairy? If the queen fairy in Wind Waker was navi, the line about the hero of winds being "Just her type" would be a cute hint at her origins.
That sounds unlikely since Navi returned back in time to the child timeline with Link. She likely doesn't exist anymore in the adult timeline where Wind Waker takes place.
I mean, I don't think you can erase him from the timeline. if link travels to the future, what happened to the link that was already in that timeline? when he went back, did he really just leave an empty, link-less void in that timeline? it's also known that ww link is the reincarnation of the hero even if they're not related by blood, so presumably there was a link in the future timeline to reincarnate into this one. it only makes sense navi should also be in the hero timeline somewhere as well.
@@cinnamintie wasn't WW Link's deal that he was a random kid who happened to share a name with the Hero of Time (possibly named after him if any records had his name written down and not just his title) and was thrown in the middle of Ganon's plans by pure coincidence? I mean, Link probably never would have went on that adventure if Aryll had never been kidnapped, and even if she had, if Tetra wasn't there then Link may not have had the means to go after her. Now, it has been a while since I played WW, but from what I remember Link had to prove himself worthy of being a Hero (collecting the Goddess Pearls, entering the Tower of Gods and doing the trials within before finally claiming the Master Sword), and he certainly had to collect the pieces of the Triforce of Courage to claim it. Contrast Twilight Princess, where Link has the Triforce symbol on his hand at the start of the game. This is even true in the Downfall timeline where OoT Link died, Zelda 2 only happens because Link suddenly received the Triforce symbol on his hand and went to Impa about it. Don't remember right now if there's games between OoT and Zelda 1 in that timeline though. So from what I remember, there was no Hero's spirit to reincarnate in WW, so a new hero had to forge his path, and within the Adult timeline the hero's spiritual lineage would then start with him.
@@fieratheproud You know, I looked for a direct source on that reincarnation thing cuz I head it online, but you're probably right that he didn't reincarnate. I still don't think it makes sense to believe he was certainly erased from the future timeline though. If you have a link in the past, and he goes into the future, in that timeline there clearly existed a Link, as people in the future recognize you, and your house is present. So that means there was a link in that timeline before past link traveled there. You could say past link "overwrote" future link thus future link ceased to exist, but I think its just as likely that future link still does exist, and in the time past link is in the future timeline that link could be sealed in the chamber of sages, or dead, or swapped with past link and is always in the opposite timeline as him. I just think there's a chance that OoT link and navi could both reasonably exist in both timelines, so I think its fair game for theories..
They say that the fairies die after their role is completed, like how the healing fairies use their own life to replenish that of the hero's. Navi played such a huge role in the saving of Hyrule, that i suppose it would make sense she was given a role as a Great Fairy at the end of her noble quest.
That's not entirely certain. The fairies in Majora's mask showed to have no purpose at all themselves. The fairies that were placed in a bottled healed Link on being freed or touched not necessarily from them giving their own life. Who knows where those theories were coming around. The great Fairies also often healed Link as well. There only purpose seemed to be giving Link a skill and healing him. In regards the Historia goes on to say Link was never remembered as a hero and lamented never being considered one and died and became the Hero's Shade waiting to pass on his skills to the next hero. He also most likely wouldn't have in the Twilight Timeline either. It was the timeline that Link would have died and Ganondorf succeeded but was instead sealed in the Dark World he created by the Sages. So Twilight Princess the Hero of Time would have failed and died and Ganon got to create the Dark World with the triforce. The Dark World however I don't think necessarily is the Twilight Realm but the Dark World in a Link to the Past though several Twili worshiped Ganon and considered him their king like Zhant although Midna was their ruler much like Zelda in Hyrule's world. Several enemies also worshiped Ganon in Hyrule also. OoT Navi left as she fulfilled her goal but it'd be uncertain if she died and it's unlikely Link ever found her. OoT though wasn't a game about happy endings though. It was game really that Link lost everyone close to him. Ganondorf also repelled Navi at the end of OoT though Navi was able to come back and support Link after Ganondorf died and became a mindless beast. Maybe she was unable to stay with Link much longer after being separated from him. Whatever reason Navi decided to go her own way. Also Link wasn't a Kokiri and The Great Deku Tree was only lending Navi to Link unlike other Kokiri whose fairies they technically owned.
The thing I dont like about the idea of "The fairy dies when their task is completed" is...What about the fairies that are Guardians to the Kokiri. Since the kokiri are ageless, does that mean those few fairies also never die?
@@WinoaKaronhiatens You are confusing the downfall timeline and the child timeline. A link to the past is downfall timeline and twilight princess is child timeline.
The "fairy dies after use" theory is pure BS. The "sudden" disappearance after healing Link is just an indication that she goes away, probably towards her former fairy font or the closest one.
That's the first time I ever heard that! lol And I've been around since Ocarina of Time first released on N64. The reason why Navi left was because her task was completed. Since Link was never a Kokiri, she was never originally assigned to him like the other children. But because of his purpose to save the world that the Deku Tree sensed in Link, he assigned Navi to him. Now that Link completed his quest and saved the land, there was no reason for her to remain with Link. Most likely, she returned to the forest. Maybe she was assigned to another kokiri? Maybe she returned to the Great Fairy? I think there are different fairies in the Zelda Universe. You have the Healing Fairies, and you have the Forest fairies, and the Great Fairies. Each fairy is different, but there's not enough information in Hyrule Historia to give us at the moment. We don't even know their lifespans.
One of the biggest upsets ever to me in my life is Nintendo’s lack of clarity regarding the events that took place during the hero of times life.. link met Navi, went through amazing adventures together, literally became a man with her.. then at the end she flys away and disappears forever leaving us to wonder wether she left so that link didn’t have to see her die. Mind you she is the only one that can even remember links adult adventures. To top it all off, link sets off to look for her in the beginning of majoras mask and ends up in a different dimension. If the more plausible theory about her dying is true, that would mean link had been searching for a friend that was dead the entire time. How sick and sad is that? I’m sure the creators didn’t intend it to go in that direction with the story but it does. And it sucks.
@@Spek06 I think she did what all the 🧚♀️ do. Fade away. She did her purpose. Sad but I think that’s what happen. Man poor HEro of time. He got the worse. but he is the best.
That direction isn't actually certain at all and some of that is based on fan theories. No one knows if that Link ever found Navi and his experience with OoT he made connections with many people and lost them all. also not all fairies gad roles quite shown by the orphan fairies in Terminus and Navi was only lent by the Great Deku Tree unlike other Kokiri which Link was not. Every sage asides the King Link that you meet in the Temple of light made big connections with Link. Though even the King might have made connections as the owl as the owl certainly looks like the King of Hyrule. The sages were also able to commune with Link after they became Sages also which they essentially had to die to become. Link also lost his mother who brought him to the forest for protection because Ganondorf's forces were trying to kill him and the Deku Tree who took him in and protected him while growing up. That Link never actually gets a happy ending in Hyrule and the Link that succeeds and returns and warns Zelda and made friends with her decides to leave Hyrule to find Navi. Nothing is ever really explained of what happens to Link and his search for Navi after Terminus though. Though that Link at least ends up being able to make new friends though every mask he wears is off people who couldn't fulfill their roles and left them up to Link like bound spirits in the form of masks. The Hero of Time Link only met with tragedy and met many others who also suffered tragedies. The ending of OoT the Kokiri children even were sad of the loss of Saria and struggled with festival. Maybe his title is best known as the Hero of Tragedies. jk.
@@WinoaKaronhiatens this is true, the direction isn’t certain. But without clarity, what else can be assumed? I just hate how they just kind of abandoned the story and I wish they would bring the pieces back together full circle for the fans.. and not disheveled like the historia books and the inclusion of HOT link in TP.
I never once thought the fairies die after completing their task. I always thought they just poof to the nearest fairy fountain to rest and recharge their powers.
I've always head-canonned that the Temple of Time dungeon portion in TP (ie. through the window portal into the dungeon itself) was actually the Temple of Light.
Not the only time they had something as such using the Temple of Time. Skyword Sword goes to the future to the Temple of Time and even meets the 1000 year old Impa. It ends up having a Time Traveling portal in that location. The first medallion you get though you get from being sealed in another Realm where the Sages reside in the Realm of Light so I think the place Link is sealed is where The Temple of Light really resides and not actually directly in Hyrule. Though it makes me question about Ganondorf and the Dark World being sealed as well being the same. Ganondorf was sealed by the Master Sword as well as young Link. brings more questions. I guess about the locations where Ganon and young Link were sealed.
Also considering that the symbol on the light medallion is found everywhere in the TP Temple of Time, I would say that makes a lot of sense. The Temple of Light is in the Sacred Realm, the Temple of Time being erected by the Sage of Light Rauru to better protect the Master Sword and the portal into the Sacred Realm. I would say that TP's Temple of Time dungeon is not just the Temple of Light, but also in the Sacred Realm!
@@justinmast914 The Temple of Light is within the Sacred Realm (the centre of it), so yes, by extension, we enter the Sacred Realm! Maybe the monsters we see in there are a force sent by Ganondorf to try and locate the Triforce. We learn earlier from the ancient sages that Ganondorf had tried to establish dominion over the Sacred Realm, maybe these was leftovers from his attempt (assuming he was able to send a force in to begin with).
@@IamCanadian3333 That makes sense. Zant had to have access (maybe through Ganondorf) to the Temple of Light as well. How else would there be a shard of the Mirror of Twilight in the dungeon?
@@IamCanadian3333 This kind of reminds me of this theory video I watched.......They followed the same line of thought, that, yes, it is the Temple of Light. They also went deeper into that and talked about their theory that when Link-more specifically, the Hero of Twilight-was sent back in time, he was sent back in time to a point in time where Link-the Hero of Time-was being sealed away in his seven year slumber, hence the missing Master Sword. So, while the Hero of Time was gone, the Hero of Twilight entered the Temple of Light, which had been corrupted, not only by Ganondorf's influence, but by the presence of the shard of the Mirror of Twilight, and slew Armogohma, freeing the temple of this evil and restoring it to its former state. This, in their opinion, is why Rauru simply gives you the Light Medallion.
That's quite an interesting perspective! I've never stopped to think about Fairies hierarchy and possible ascension through merit. Always took for granted they being born and "dying" the same. Aren't there five Great Fairies in the Cave of Ordeals? It's just a single one appearing in multiple floors?
I like the idea. It's a better ending for her than the "she died cause fairies disappear when mission complete" theory to me. Especially since Hero's Shade is OoT Link, itd be fitting to have his partner present in the same game. Whenever i imagine what Navi really looks like under the ball of light, TP's great fairy happens to be the closest too. Id say it also explains why TP GF is so touchy with her old partner's descendant, but i guess quite a few other great fairies are kinda hands on lol. As far as explaining how she gets there goes, I only just now notice when she flies to the window, she's just kinda hovering there still as Link walks away. Maybe she did notice something lied beyond there in a weird instinctive way. At least, taking into account TP goes out of its way to make that specific window the temple entrance. And this might just be a map inconsistency that they prioritize making each Hyrule feel fresh over, but it is interesting that the ToT was relocated into the very forest Navi herself originates from by the time of TP... There's something to this for sure
Here's a thought: Fairies die once they've fulfilled whatever their purpose is. Most Kokiri fairies are supposed to guard the Kokiri, who never leave childhood and so always need protecting; thus, their fairies never die. Healing fairies are supposed to keep a person alive; thus, once they've healed/revived a person, they die. In most games, the Great Fairies bestow upon Link some item or power; once they do this, they collapse in a shower of light and are never seen or heard from again. Navi was a Kokiri fairy, but her role was to stay with Link on his journey; once Link's journey was over, so was her lifespan. She flew away because she knew her death was imminent, but didn't want Link to watch her die. She couldn't fly through the window, but the light coming in obscured the flash she made when she perished.
Hey just throwing this for the Zelda enthusiasts, you won't unsee it. In twilight princess in the temple of time. Did you notice the three circles in the stain glass window you walk through have colors that can correspond to Navi, Tatl, and Tael? You're welcome 😁
Welp looks like I found another zeldatuber, this is the first video I've watched of yours and I loved it. I will probably binge all of your videos and eagerly awaite more uploads.
Making a Great Fairy Navi as an idea for a Zelda game is an excellent idea. Hopefully Nintendo will consider doing that in a Zelda game in the future if it does not happen with the Breath of the Wild sequel.
In BOTW2, Link slowly wakes up again, after getting beat by the source of Malice, Ganondorf, hearing a voice call out to him... ...but this voice is different than Zelda's, as Link awakes he hears two simple words: "Hey, Listen!"
That was a very interesting theory about Navi. I never really thought that she could become a great fairy or travel into a secret room like that. But, especially if you look at Majoras Mask, it is made a little more obvious that...she most likely died, especially when she gets hit by Ganondorf's powers near the end. But hey that is just my opinion, great theory!
I still think that when link goes back in time in Twilight Princess via the temple of time, it brings him back to the 7 year period of ocarina of time where the hero of time already has the master sword in his possession. That's why the master sword isn't there. Just a cool thought I had.
This makes total sense. And i think that's not the only Navy appearance. Due to time/dimensions travel shenanigans, she could be also the one in ALttP. The one found in Ganon's pyramid. If I remember well, she looks fat, but hey, it could be because Ganon's evil magic. But by the same means of transportation she could had gone to the time/dimension where she fails to save the hero
I feel like the creepy queen from windwaker is Navi someone. "Your just my type" felt like a joke, a cute one. It's even said by Ganondorf himself that the hero of winds is the hero of time reborn. Not a person with a heros spirit but truely the hero reincarnated. Meaning this link of winds remind people very closely of link of time. Ganondorf. (The queen fairy ie Navi) the deku tree. But I also beleive that the tp great fairy is also Navi. Then again they are 2 different timeliness so both could be true. Twilight princess happens within like 100 years or so after ocarina of time so Navi being a great fairy seems fitting. A natural evolutions. Windwaker happens like Hella long after. A good 500 years or something so Navi becoming the child like queen of fairies is awfully fitting. In this time line she had to abandon the hero and friend while she powers up to the fairy spirit or great fairy. In windwaker she would jave seen the end of the world as she knows it. When she become a fairy queen she become an eternal child in honor of the kokiri that where her first
Navi, like all fairies in Zelda games, was a representation of the three goddesses. Once her job/time was done she moved on. Simple as that… oh, maybe she’s the new power that transfers into Links hand in the BOTW2 trailer hehe
Cool theory! Also like, the design of the Great Fairy in Twilight Princess is so so good and pretty, in special compared to how weird they are in the other 3d games hahahah
Not a bad theory to ponder and the evolution to a higher fairy is appealing... That said I personally think Navi died given how she silently drifted away from Link without saying anything, it's also because she left so abruptly that Link eventually sets off to find her as he never had a proper goodbye in OOT.. As we see Link actively looking for her in Majora's Mask exploring the lost woods (a very dangerous thing to do without a Fairy) because he couldn't find her within Hyrule. But this is also supported by a few things. 1. Healing fairies vanish without exception after they help Link, which leads to the question where do they go and what happens to them? We know Fairy's are tied to the Goddesses, the Tri-Force, Royal Family (summoned when playing Zelda's Lullaby) and Great Spirits like the Deku Tree. 2. We never see what happens to Kokiri Guardian Fairy's if they fail to protect their partners, but they are practically inseparable and will forgiven almost any wrong doings as seen in Majora's Mask with Tattle/Tale and Skull Kid. But despite this fact Navi leaves after Ganon's defeat in the Future Timeline which is strange in the extreme. Need to remember Link is only 11 at this point and his only friend who really understands what happened to him during the game just abandoned him.....Especially when past Gannondorf still needed to be dealt with in the Child Timeline. 3. Link only refers to Navi as "Friend/Someone" in Majora's Mask never a Fairy which is an odd omission and a really vague way to describe something especially in the Zelda universe has multiple sentient species. 4. Major's Mask at its core a story about death/loss and coming to terms with those emotions and events, from the Zora Guitarist, Darmani , the Deku Butler son, everyone person in clock town , to the Goron Tribe on the mountain slowly freezing. Everyone is facing their doom, either by the Moon falling or because their homes are being destroyed by extreme events.
I am SO PUMPED TO HAVE ANOTHER ZELDA THEORIST TO FOLLOW!!! Subscribed Im always eager for another lore hunter to tell.me everything. I literally got psyched up at the title of this. Thank you!!
While I don’t think there’s enough evidence to make any solid conclusions, I thought that I’d mention that this video was pretty well made for a channel with so few subs. Keep up the good work!
The algorithm started recommending your videos to me and I gotta say I'm shocked you only have 600+ subs, this theory rocks man! Definitely subbed, and to answer the in video question, Now I absolutely think that's Navi also S rank on the channel name
I can see that being the case, especially when you have well-rounded characters like Groose from Skyward Sword, Midna from Twilight Princess, and Revali from Breath Of The Wild, who have their own personalities despite not being the focus of the game. Character development in this franchise is so complex you'd be forgiven for not noticing but also rewarded for taking a peak underneath the surface. At least, that's what I'm starting to notice about this franchise the more I look into it as a RUclips watcher rather than a gamer.
fairys tend to 'vanish' when they fullfilled their 'use' like healing link but after all she been through with the hero of time she deserved to become a great fairy!
A good video to watch is ocarina of time a master in subtext (or something like that title) you can look up ocarina of time is the saddest Zelda game and it will come up. It easily explains some of the reason why the crew wrote the story the way they did and part of the reason why Navi left at the end. But I really like this theory here as to where she went.
I loved Navi! I remember being a kid playing OoT and empathizing with Link because he was the only kid without a fairy. I always wondered why she was the only fairy without a kid. We never really found out why Link's mom abandoned him at the kokori forest. My theory back then was that somehow Link's mom became Navi so that she could be with her son and guide him through his adventures. Idk how thatcould workbut thatwas 12yo me lol.
I think that link is a lost prince that the queen of hyrule gave to the deku tree to save his live during the civil war Thats why link and zelda have a brother sister relationship not a romantic one
@@arachnidsjacket57 your guess is as good as mine lol. But tbh I always imagined they were destined to get married. Notice how every girl seems to want Link but something always happens to them? Like Saria and Ruto becoming sages. Maybe we are both right...incest.
@@arachnidsjacket57 I always figured they weren't romantic because they didn't really know each other, and the one or two times they did meet it was strictly business. First time it was Zelda trying to convince Link that the kingdom needed to be saved, and the second time was Link telling Zelda what would happen if they followed her plan.
That would be nice but I'm quite sure she died. When Link searches for her in the begining of Majora's Mask he falls into a hole and than he meets all the people which actually represent all stages of grieve which would suggest that he had to accept a friend's death in the end. Sad story .
I do apologize for the reupload , been having an issue with the youtube editor , that i fixed as of now , but i ended up deleting a good portion of this video by accident . so i went ahead and reuploaded it . sorry if you left a comment .
in the Wii version of Twilight Princess, Navi is the cursor for the Wii Remote, so I personally always saw it as Navi was always watching over TP Link (probably cus of his direct relation to her friend OOT Link), but it doesn't explain why she left without a word. If you look closely at both the N64 and 3Ds Cutscene though, Navi doesn't actually leave (or Despawn) she just flutters infront of the window. Which is weird. .
Fairies of all varieties die in a flash of light, so if Navi flew away because she was gonna die, it makes sense to go to the window if she doesn't want Link to notice the flash.
Remember that in Majora's Mask, Link was looking for a dear friend as it was said in the beginning, it definitely made me think of Navi, it couldnt have been Zelda as she has to continue her duties as Princess. In the end, I just totally forgot about it but I did look back and thought, he never found her and it never spoke about his continuous search but Im sure he thought of her. It made me realize too that Guardian Fairies like Tatl and Tael can go rogue too so they couldve been like nature fairies and abandon their "guardian" duties or something lol
The biggest problem I see in this is the two temples even the sword chamber are very different in oot and twilight princess. I mean you could argue hardware in the case of the 64 but when they remade oot on 3ds they didn't redesign the chamber. It is possible the original got moved and the hero of time helped in the construction calling back to his friend that left.
A decent point, however, it sounds like the original plans for the Temple of Light dungeon were scrapped very early on in OoT development, so hardware was likely not as much of a problem as estimated development time to create it (they scrapped most of the Ice temple and completely redid the Wind Temple into a Forest Temple as it is). As for why the 3DS version didn't create the Temple of Light, it was likely a decision to avoid unnecessary fanbase backlash over changing an integral part of the original game (granted they wound up getting some backlash anyways from Shekiah Stones and the Nightmare Boss Run, but they clearly didn't know that would happen). TP contains multiple mechanics and concepts recycled from OoT production such as horseback combat and grasswhistling, so a reused Light/Time dungeon isn't too far fetched of a claim to make.
@@Gondorf5 Well, that is unused content for Oot. Just because the concepts for it were around at that time doesn't mean it changes what ended up happening or my original statement about what has been published. But to be fair I have only heard rumors of the oot temple of light and know very little or about how early on it was scrapped
The scrapped ideas were incorporated throughout majora's, wind waker, and twilight. At least the major ideas, and some of the scrapped ideas from those moved into the games after. It happens. That and the remakes were to bring more people to older zelda games, as is with 'minimal' changes, same with majora's, twilight, wind waker, awakening, and even now skyward. I wouldn't be surprised to see Oracle games and others as nintendo seems to keep having zelda games available to people just getting into it.
@@94ncd I don't know about the Oracle games, though. Those two were made by Capcom, with supervision from Nintendo. It's the same with Hyrule Warriors, the CD-i series, Cadence of Hyrule, etc. They all use Nintendo IP, but none of them are actually made by Nintendo. So Nintendo can't just remake them without at least consulting the original game studios first. With the Oracle games, if Capcom's not on board to remake them, or if they are but not the way Nintendo desires, then Nintendo can only give up or give in.
Lmao so my theory is finally catching on after decades 🤣 I've been suggesting she's a great fairy or fairy queen candidate for years and commented about it on Zelda Theory's navi fan theory video a month or two ago and have mentioned it here and there for years 😂

Link isn't a forest child and thus doesn't need a fairy. Navi only joined him to help him defeat the Evil because the Deku Tree tasked her to with his dying breaths. As an original player of OOT at launch and dozens of times since, it was always clear that she would leave after the adventure was over. For all I know, you may be right about her, but her character never struck me as important, to us she was merely a vehicle for clues and tips to be delivered.
It would be so cool if in the new botw game if they added something that has to do with Navi she may have been annoying but she was a huge part of links adventures
I don't have anything to corroborate or disprove this theory. I think it's a great headcanon, but it does lack a lot of evidence to make a thorough argument in either direction. That doesn't mean it's bad though! I enjoyed this!
I don't think Navi is an ordinary fairy that evolved into another type of fairy. I think Navi is the same type of being as Fi, a divine creation gifted with an encyclopedic knowledge of every monster in the land made specifically to help Link. She may even be Fi reborn. That's why she flies through that window at the end of Ocarina. It was always intended to be a portal to the Sacred Realm and the Temple of Light, but they weren't able to show it until Twilight Princess. But it was also meant to be Navi's birthplace and home she had to return to after fulfilling her duty and that part of the story got cut along with the dungeon, so we never got that reveal. It not only explains where she goes in the end, but also why she appeared so suddenly only when Link needed her and never attached herself to another Kokiri before him, nor stuck around as a lifelong companion after his quest ended.
I minorly like the idea since it would be some resolution to the question, but really, i hope not. OoT Link went looking for her, it's both the beginning and ending of MM that he downtrodenly pushes onward through the lost woods searching for her. It's confirmed that he became the hero's shade- a stalfos, and it's lost woods lore that everyone lost to the woods becomes a stalfos. It's unclear how long he searched, but given he's in adult armor, it's anything from 7 to 60-80 years, maximum Hylian lifespan as far as we know, years of total failure. For her to be so close all those years, able to appear at any spring but refused to meet him or lead him to safety. Even assuming it was not by choice, how very tragic. At least one of his meeting places is by a spring. Now i'll have to imagine the thoughts running through his mind if he ever saw her there and recognized her.
My biggest question is where is Marin? Did she want to be a seagull "forever"? Did she want to see link again and just never found him? Why is there no legend of a singing seagull in any of the other games to prove the "real" ending is not just the one where she dies with the rest of the dreams. And isn't the concept that Marin got her wish to be a seagull imply the dreams were (in some abstract context) alive? So are you saying the people on the island were alive or all dreams live like this? Making the ending less "waking up from a nap" and more "racism fueled geocide".
LA Link washed up on Koholint Island after an accident at sea. Marin expressed her desire to become a seagull. WW Link sails the seas on his quest. Seagulls frequently fly alongside him, and they sound quite happy. I think Marin was reincarnated as a seagull when the Wind Fish woke up, and she flies alongside Link in WW.
@@tattertot8259 People associate Link's Awakening with A Link to the Past because they were released one after the other. But there's nothing besides that that links LA to any other game in the series. I bet if it had been released after Twilight Princess people would be adamant that LA is a sequel to TP. LA can go anywhere, and for a game about exploring an island in a vast open sea to be in a timeline about exploring islands in a vast open sea makes more sense than in a timeline about exploring landlocked fields and mountains.
I think it is her in the cave cause I can see in her face that she sees the simalar look of the hero of twilight compared to the hero of time but she knows they are not the same its like memories were triggered in her mind when she saw link in twilight princess and maybe wished that it was the same link she knew as I would assume she misses link from ocarina of time caise they were really good friends threw thick and thin friendship like that doesn't just go away
My theory has always been that Navi was the soul of links mom since the fairies always look like fireflies to me and in Japanese legend fireflies are the souls of the dearly departed and link's mom died because of the Hyrulian civil war but not before coming to the forest and begging the great Deku tree to watch over him so he reincarnated he has a fairy and after link's heroes journey was complete she was content that he would life and good life so her went to heaven in peace which is why she goes to the temple's window because she's going into the light of heaven. But yeah interesting theory.
My Theory would also explain Major's Mask because the entire game is Link coming to terms with Navi's death/goodbye and his trauma with everything that happened in OoT.
I thought that too. It would make sense if Link's mother would keep watch over her son while he fulfilled his mission, but for whatever reason she was not allowed to say who she really was until his quest was over.
The Legend of Zelda is made in Japan by Japanese developers working for a Japanese company, so it makes a lot of sense for them to draw on their own mythology for inspiration and such. I always thought she became a tree, but knowing that bit of Japanese legend makes me think otherwise. You're probably right that Navi is supposed to be the soul of Link's mother.
This is a "Great Theory" (pun intended) jokes aside eventhough I have played most of the games I am not much of a Zelda fan. But I have to say that this idea of your's has gotten me excited (maybe even more than any Zelda game could have) to me this is cannon until Nintendo states otherwise.
That's the thing about time, Ganondorf is beaten in the future, he's still Around in the past. Kinda disappointing we never see what happens to the demon king when the game ends
Closest I can think of is the stray fairies in Majora's Mask, but even then they still had the collective memory of the single great fairy I think? I don't really see that as progressing in the hierarchy though.
The best we got was a mention in WW. The Deku Tree says that the Koroks used to take Hylian forms, but just changed shape. So I guess there's at least that. But yeah, I miss them too.
I wouldnt say the evidence is solid but I do love the idea. I think its more likely she was given the honor of becoming a great fairy rather than just growing into the role.
I solely support this theory in which my personal headcanon looks like this: After Link defeats Ganon and returns back to his time with Navi, she departs into a window in front of them in which that it's a portal to the Sacred Realm. Hylia congratulated Navi for helping Link do his will to save Hyrule and promoted her to the rank of Great Fairy during the events of Twilight Princess where she would become the overseer of the Cave of Ordeals. Navi then would give her tears to Link's descendant, the Hero of Twilight which were the same tears she once cried during her departure from Hyrule which later became healing magic blessed by Hylia after Navi's promotion to the rank of Great Fairy. What do you think?
the great fairy being topless is probably why T.P. is rated Teen.
Need that on the switch.... okay!.. enough with the dumb male humor. But that game better be next.
There are also many scary and freaky cut scenes.
But she's not topless, she's got the vines? 😅
@@highbrednxtus Nah, the one in Twilight Princess. She's flat out topless. Nothing but hair covers her tatas.
I don’t think so, fairies in mythology have no clothes.
@@cinnamintie timelines are pretty complicated to think about honestly, time itself is already weird haha
Wouldn’t it be so cool if in the sequel to botw you visit a great fairy fountain and she mentions that she once travelled with a hero

If that is the case then Navi is the best great fairy and the hottest one
do you even know what she even looked like she was just a glow orb with wings she was tiny
@@CharmeIeon they’re talking about if she is the great fairy in twilight princess

I have same idea!! Damnn Navi having such future will be a shocker for me, ugh i started to miss her annoying voice.
I'm surprised you never mentioned majoras mask since that's the whole reason he went on that adventure was to find her.
And it sucks.
oof that does sound pretty heartbreaking once you put it that way . But yeah i was wondering why nintendo decided to seperate them for
I think it is. The first time she appears is a light blue light.
Hell the whole reason link went into the lost woods in Majora’s mask was to search for Navi.... never found her😔
I've always head-canonned that the Temple of Time dungeon portion in TP (ie. through the window portal into the dungeon itself) was actually the Temple of Light.
I really hope this is true that' would be dope
So, Navi was a time traveler and thus the perfect paired partner with a hero whose challenge was to travel through time.
... NEAT.
I’ve also been thinking the Great Fairy in TP was Navi too for the past few years, it’s awesome to see others have come up with that conclusion too.
That's quite an interesting perspective! I've never stopped to think about Fairies hierarchy and possible ascension through merit. Always took for granted they being born and "dying" the same.
Aren't there five Great Fairies in the Cave of Ordeals? It's just a single one appearing in multiple floors?
It's just the same fairy appearing at different areas in the cave, just like her essence can be found at all the Spirit Fountains.
I like that thought of her still watching over link in another world, that’s really sweet.
In BOTW2, Link slowly wakes up again, after getting beat by the source of Malice, Ganondorf, hearing a voice call out to him...
...but this voice is different than Zelda's, as Link awakes he hears two simple words:
"Hey, Listen!"
My thoughts exactly.
@@ThornHailsnap yay I'm not alone here!!!

Cool theory! Also like, the design of the Great Fairy in Twilight Princess is so so good and pretty, in special compared to how weird they are in the other 3d games hahahah
Me2
Not a bad theory to ponder and the evolution to a higher fairy is appealing...
We know Fairy's are tied to the Goddesses, the Tri-Force, Royal Family (summoned when playing Zelda's Lullaby) and Great Spirits like
the Deku Tree.
2. We never see what happens to Kokiri Guardian Fairy's if they fail to protect their partners, but they are practically inseparable and
will forgiven almost any wrong doings as seen in Majora's Mask with Tattle/Tale and Skull Kid. But despite this fact Navi leaves
after Ganon's defeat in the Future Timeline which is strange in the extreme.
Need to remember Link is only 11 at this point and his only friend who really understands what happened to him during the game
just abandoned him.....Especially when past Gannondorf still needed to be dealt with in the Child Timeline.
3. Link only refers to Navi as "Friend/Someone" in Majora's Mask never a Fairy which is an odd omission and a really vague
way to describe something especially in the Zelda universe has multiple sentient species.
4. Major's Mask at its core a story about death/loss and coming to terms with those emotions and events, from the
Zora Guitarist, Darmani , the Deku Butler son, everyone person in clock town , to the Goron Tribe on the mountain slowly freezing.
Everyone is facing their doom, either by the Moon falling or because their homes are being destroyed by extreme events.

Being a story writer for the Zelda franchise has to be one of the best jobs on this earth.
Very good theory. The best I think I’ve heard to explain where Navi went after ocarina of time and where she is. 👍
Navi (Nah-vee) is my oldest daughter's name. Zelda is my middle daughter and Saria (sar-ee-uh) is my youngest daughter.
Oldest son is Gannondorf I take it. ;)
Those are all pretty solid girls names though!
Developers: We forgot about that ceiling, it’s fine they won’t notice.
Fans: SHES ACTUALLY STILL ALIVE SHE DIDNT DIE, SHE IN 1956!
I think that link is a lost prince that the queen of hyrule gave to the deku tree to save his live during the civil war
Thats why link and zelda have a brother sister relationship not a romantic one
Sad story .
But that's just a theory

In the Navi, you can sail the seven seas
In the Navi, you can put your mind at ease
in the Wii version of Twilight Princess, Navi is the cursor for the Wii Remote, so I personally always saw it as Navi was always watching over TP Link (probably cus of his direct relation to her friend OOT Link), but it doesn't explain why she left without a word.
Well done!
Finally someone agrees with me. the first time I saw the great fairy in Twilight Princess I knew it was her!
My Pug is named Navi… she’s annoying yet lovable.
on another note Navi was originally called Navigation Fairy and it was later shortened to Navi.
She went to die no mystery, the great deku tree gave her a misión and her mission was over. She didnt want link to see her die.
It's said the Temple of Time is an extension of the Temple of Light in OOT, if I recall.
This is exactly what I thought happened to Navi after she left Link
I read the title as "Great Fairy Nazi ?! (zelda theory)"
She's still at the window.
I call every fairy that’s around the big one Navi and in my mind i can hear them say hey listen 🥺
Where are you getting the information that faeries go through life stages, by the way? Also, I imagined it was Navi as in Navigate or Navigator.
Lmao so my theory is finally catching on after decades 🤣
I've been suggesting she's a great fairy or fairy queen candidate for years and commented about it on Zelda Theory's navi fan theory video a month or two ago and have mentioned it here and there for years 😂
great vid! Navi made a big impact and left a big hole. it would be so cool if she returned in some way in botw2
I never thought about that!
Taking The Hero's Shade in TP into account, its entirely possible that he never found Navi and died in the Lost Woods searching for her...
No, because the Hero's Shade is an adult.
@@sophitiaofhyrule agreed The hero of time lived the successful life and the even had a family.. It's only when he was close to death Add an old ages when he Realized Hyrule Would be defenseless because he did not do a good enough job in teaching the next generation the value of courage.. His fears was confirmed In the beginning of what I princess.. Many of the soldiers you encounter are Cowardly.
Based on this armor is very regal looking so it's eplod that he had a high ranking in the highly Ranked Knight
Bruh I never actually did the Cave of Ordeals in TP, I thought that fairy was a mod for a minute lmao
Navi is my favorite Zelda character, so I hope she became a Great Fairy!
Great content well made.
my mind is definitely blown .. good job dude. INSTANT SUB
It would be so cool if in the new botw game if they added something that has to do with Navi she may have been annoying but she was a huge part of links adventures
I really like this theory. It totally makes sense.
I don't have anything to corroborate or disprove this theory. I think it's a great headcanon, but it does lack a lot of evidence to make a thorough argument in either direction. That doesn't mean it's bad though! I enjoyed this!
em it’s possible that it’s navi but i’m not convinced but good vid
1:49 it is not a random event for Link is a Hylian and one of kokori. Also Deku tree tells Navi to hang with him until his task is done...
The Temple of Time dungeon in TP is actually the Temple of Light, IMO.
And I call the targeting system Navi as well I hear hey watch out when the arrow appears 🥺❤️
"Cock-iri" 🤣 Say it with me mate, coo-ki-ri
prismo presents a rly good Zelda video
@@ThornHailsnap For that to be true Marin's seagull would need the power to time travel, as that's the wrong timeline.
Bravo on the theory sir. Intriguing
I like this theory very much!
If that’s what she turned into later on than damn where do I find this tree? I need one or two of them..
lol
Did anyone else see Navi just floating around window when link leaves? You have to look closely 4:29
That's the thing about time, Ganondorf is beaten in the future, he's still Around in the past. Kinda disappointing we never see what happens to the demon king when the game ends
Wait where have we seen evidence that fairies progressed along the hierarchy?
Closest I can think of is the stray fairies in Majora's Mask, but even then they still had the collective memory of the single great fairy I think? I don't really see that as progressing in the hierarchy though.
Navi &/or the kokiri not being in other games make me so sad.
The best we got was a mention in WW. The Deku Tree says that the Koroks used to take Hylian forms, but just changed shape. So I guess there's at least that. But yeah, I miss them too.
I hope they give navi a very important role in breath of the wild 2 as
One of the great fairies
I wouldnt say the evidence is solid but I do love the idea.
I think its more likely she was given the honor of becoming a great fairy rather than just growing into the role.
I say nah-vee like you, but I think it's supposed to be naa-vee like navigator, which is where she got her name
Where did she go? Why did she leave? And why are her wing tips upside down in the remake?
