- I mention some of the surprising similarities between children's channel Nickelodeon and video game giant Nintendo, including their rise in popularity and their beloved mascots.

Another thing common about Nickelodeon and Nintendo is that they’re extremely protective with their IPs, with Nickelodeon and its parent company Viacom once sued RUclips back in the mid 2000’s where the site featured many videos that were stolen clips of their movies and shows, and with Nintendo they filed a lawsuit towards Steam because many Nintendo Characters were featured in Garry’s Mod without their permission and they also infamously filed a cease and desist towards SML (formerly known as Super Mario Logan) because their characters were featured without their permission
Great comparisons. I didn’t know Nickelodeon used to be owned by WB. I remember hearing that Looney Tunes cartoons used to air on the network in the 1990s. Maybe that explains why?
Warner sold their stake in Nickelodeon to Viacom in 1986 and the Looney Tunes cartoons (the ones still owned by WB at the time, as Turner had the rights to the others) started airing on the channel two years later. But maybe that prior association with Warner is what led to that arrangement.
@ makes sense. I also think Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse and Friends also have a few things in common.
@@champreviewer5572 Same with their parents companies.
Great comparison. When you say Pokemon was a notable exception of movies under Nintendo I have a feeling that applies to films made for fans like the Pokemon anime movies and “Detective Pikachu”
A random comparison, but a good exercise for the brain to be sure.
Both are big companies
hmm I never thought of that
