Kathryn Gates... Gates of Heck. She lives in NYC now and does book design. As Jim mentioned, Bubbles interviewed her. She used to live right down the street. I think someone in her family still has that home/estate. She had the Burns/Panter show when I first moved to Richmond. I was floored from that when it happened.
I know it's a bit stupid to collect a publisher, but Gates of Heck is one that I do try and find when I can. I just found a small book they published telling the origin of the THREE LITTLE PIGS story... helluva fascinating thing.
Ed, check out BUBBLES FANZINE #2 there is an interview with Katherine Gates (one of the creators and publishers of GATES OF HECK) They also released the Gary Panter / Charles Burns "Facetasm" book and did an art show with them in Richmond. Made me so proud to read about Richmonds insane comics history
My friend Arianna and I are going to be doing a similar project through mail! She does the first 3 pages of a mini comic that already has boxes printed on the page, I do next 3 pages. I am excited to see what we get!
Very interesting! Love the design, very much of the time, but still fresh! Bold and graphic. Made me think of Hendrik Dorgathen for some reason, a designer/cartoonist who did really cool stuff in the 90s. Well, also after that, but my mind is on good 90s design right now.
I did an Exquisite Corpse with Gregory Benton and Cliff Chiang in the SPX bar once. I think I still have the drawing stashed away somewhere.
If you guys have those Mazzuchelli Rubber Blanket issues id love a deep dive on those
Hell yes to all things Mazzucchelli!

always entertaining and informative..i love your program
Don't those page edges sorta look like the stripes of the camp prisoners in Maus?
Another great video guys, thanks!
wow, what an amazing artifact. Spiegelman and Mouley are legends for their curation alone, not to mention as cartoonists in their own right!

Have you guys approached Spiegelman and Mouley for an interview?
Ben Katchor. Love that guy.
I want to do this! Who wants to do this together??
