"MotownPhilly" was the biggest hit of the 1990s during the "New Jack Swing" Era. 👨🏾👨🏾🦲🧔🏾👨🏾🎤🎶🎶💃🏼
1991 but description says 1994...weird.
New Jack Swing was Black Culture’s answer to Pop music. Positive, uptempo, with great dances. It’s a shame it died out. I feel like with this current generation of social media/TikTok a modern revival could really take over globally.
As a late 90s baby, you DO NOT WANT A NEW RIVIVAL from us or the mfs younger than me 💯 they will only ruin the legacy.

Consequently, Boyz II Men is among the music industry's elite with regard to time spent at number one in Billboard history with 50 cumulative weeks, ranking sixth behind Drake, the Beatles, Rihanna, Elvis Presley and Carey. Furthermore, when "On Bended Knee" took the number one spot away from "I'll Make Love to You", Boyz II Men became only the third artists ever (after the Beatles and Presley) to replace themselves at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.[4] These achievements were enough to earn Boyz II Men recognition as Billboard magazine's biggest boy band during the period of 1987 to 2012.[5] Boyz II Men has received four Grammy Awards.

I played this song for a dear friend of mine who was from Philly in 2016 at a bar that was dead. I started dancing, he was loving it! Funny thing was there happened to be a wedding in the adjacent banquet room they had. People came out for an intermission, saw we were having more fun than they were, got invited to the wedding party, I started dancing on the dance floor by myself listening to the live band. Next thing you know, I was dragging everyone on the dance floor. Long story short, I got the party started...hahaha! Didn't even know the people! Those of us that lived through the 1990s witnessed a generation of music never to be repeated.
facts!
100%
Double facts
I lived through the 1990s and witnessed a generation of music never to be repeated...but that's also true of every decade and generation. 1950s music will never be repeated. 60s, 70s, 80s... In the 2060s there will be middle-aged people who think fondly about 2020s music because it will always remind them of their childhood.
@@posysdogovych2065 exactly, as I was listening to this I just realized how many groups in Philly burst out from 86-93 in all genres.
Then when looking at some other acts, Philly is on parwith, San Francisco, Memphis, Detroit, new Orleans for their respective music scenes across all genres and races, and still produce local talent.

This song still hits hard!
Michael Bivens was a quiet master of picking acts and putting them on. He doesn't get the credit he deserves.
In the UIK Boyz To Men are revered as well as in Australia. In fact a couple of years ago they were on a UK Talk Show where they promoted a CD doing interpretations of other people's Songs, and they serenaded the Co-Host Angela Griffin with their version of "Open Arms' by Journey and the poor woman almost lost it. In fact everytime a Boy Band auditions on the X Factor Shows they almost always talk about how Boyz To Men influenced Them. They also are big fans of American R & B like Harmonizin Homeiz and they've done Cover Version of Philly Soul Songs
absolutely. if you watch the "New edition Story'' movie it highlights this. Bivens got so tired of the industry cheating him and New Edition that he learned the business and started putting his own groups together.

The greatest decade of all time
Honestly this is real music. Not the autotune crap.
So sweet the harmony, the innocence captured in this, the hope, the enthusiasm of youth, beautiful.
That, and the optimism of the 90s as a youth. If you were growing up in America / Canada in the late 80s / early 90s, and you weren't poor, the world was mind-blowing and amazing. I loved the Americans the most, I just thought American people were incredible. America seemed so advanced compared to us in Canada for so long.
