Is there a cluster available that goes on top of the steering column? As in, it sits in front of the bottom of the tach, odo and speedo? I've got an NB in mind.

I used the Banks dual gauge pod on suction cup to the windshield. On my ND, didn't find a better solution currently. The Banks idash gauges weigh nothing so it works well. I added oil temp and oil pressure. Did this this spring, works great. I also use them as like a 2 stage shift light set up too.

Analogue race dash when? Looks fantastic! Will it talk to external sensors for oil temp, pressure etc?
You answered my last question at the end.. what's the dash going to cost?

@@jacobchen2151 sorry, badly phrased. He confirmed it will accept signals from analogue gauges. I added the question "what's the cost?" later

Why have oil and coolant temps? Would oil temp alone not be sufficient?
    Thanks

Some type of alert is critical so that you don't overheat your engine but it doesn't have to be a gauge. Some folks like to know the precise temp of certain fluids to start adjusting their driving before a critical temp occurs. For high HP builds, monitoring the oil temp is better so that you know you're not at a temp that could cause it to break down prematurely. For most builds, monitoring the coolant is good enough.

Any opinions on OBD2 gauges ? Is it worth trying to get one ? Or are they inaccurate?

    • @dielaughing73
      @dielaughing73 Год назад

Limited what you can learn from OBD on my NC. Water temp is about it but even that is supposedly not a direct, accurate measurement. You can track whatever OBD sends via your phone or head unit anyway

I have Banks iDash (one) gauges as near as I can tell they seem accurate - they are definitely consitant and the readings make sense. The iDash gauges are obd and with an optional bus are analog too. Be prepared its a great set up but it ain't cheap. Also the one gauge is only going to report what the obd reports - I imagine the gauge is not the question. More like how good are the sensors in your car?

oil temp gauge should be mandatory on all tracked miatas. Even naturally aspirated ones.
Having oil squirters a lot of the heat goes in the oil, it's not uncommon for tracked stock miatas to see over 150°c/300°f without an oil cooler.
I once had the oil so hot that while the revs were going up 3-4-5k rpm the oil pressure gauge ('90 NA) would go down to 1 bar-15psi on the straights.

I can second this seeing 280-290 F oil temp on a stock vvt engine at gingerman raceway even with a reroute and larger rad.

Agreed! We're big fans, but they unfortunately don't work in earlier Miatas.

Great for vintage & modern vehicles, very customisable & expandable - no OBD2 port required.
However support for international customers is slow.

I would really like a light that flashes if the engine knocks. My car is loud and the top is usually down, so I might miss knocking. A stand alone knock detector would be peace of mind. I imagine it would have to have some adjustment mechanism.
