  • I had such great feedback from a recent wildflower harvest video that I thought I would take you along as I describe a terrific herb, YARROW. (Achillea Millefolium L) It has been used by my family and many others for a very long time for good reason.

    Do you have a favorite botanical?

      My favorite botanical is rosemary. I will be looking into the article for yarrow and I believe I have seen this flower in my area. I keep dry rosemary in the pantry and I am going to try to make a tincture.🙏👍👍👍👍Have a bless evening!

    I now live in the city and no longer have a large garden. I am having great success with lavender, rosemary, basil, lemon thyme and chocolate mint in my small patio garden. I'm looking forward to drying them and utilizing them in a number of ways. Thanks so much for the wonderful videos and sharing your knowledge. I feel as though I am in your work studio with a nice ice tea chatting with you as you are working with the yarrow!

    This is a staple in our medicine cabinet for cuts. Example, my husband cut his finger with a very sharp blade and the wound would NOT stop bleeding. He was going to go to the E.R. for stitches. BUT, I whipped out my tincture of Yarrow, put it on a sterile cotton ball, had him hold it on the wound for a few seconds, gave him another one and with in 1 minute the bleeding stopped. We wrapped it up and a few days later he was good as new. Now, it won't sew a finger back on or mend a broken bone so always be smart about these kinds of things.

    I just harvested a bunch here in November. The leaves look great, but there’s no flowers. Is there still good medicinal value without the flowers?

    Thanks so much for the shout out Patrick! So many wonderful herbs and additives you have at your disposal. Would it be possible to order several dozen of your awesome dried bounty as you harvest for your own use? I would love to play with these. Let me know? xox Jen

    i just hang them upside down to dry. i also have a dehydrator just like yours that my neighbor who has passed away gave me a few years ago and i'm still using it.. it's an old one called harvest maid 👀 also yarrow is so easy to transplant if you find some in the wild just bring it home and plant it in a pot or your garden and it will be good.

    • @SoapyOaksFarm
      @SoapyOaksFarm  5 лет назад

      Thanks so much, oh yes, I hang many herbs and other botanicals too, but those dehydrators are great for speeding up the process a bit. Thanks so much

    I think I saw some narrow yesterday. Here is the thing: I love working with all sorts of botanicals but very often I'm afraid to pick up the wrong plant. So I'd rather not risk it and just stick to what I am familiar with. Which is very limiting. 😞

    • @SoapyOaksFarm
      @SoapyOaksFarm  5 лет назад

      Irene, I do understand, get some books on wildflowers/herbs, I love this from Audobon amzn.to/2JOffeZ it has great images and thorough descriptions of leaves, stems, roots and flowers to help you identify the plants.

  • @jodivoet76
    @jodivoet76 2 года назад

    I'm curious, what do you use the stems for? You mentioned that you used them but never told us how. I'm harvesting yarrow now and wondering what I can use the stems for.

      Hi there, thank you so much for your comment. I use those to make tea, sort of an infusion that I can drink. It's delicious with a little chamomile and honey.

      Hi there yes indeed I did. I never want to stick any of our beneficial insects in the dehydrator.
