    If the land has no value, there's no basis for taxation since taxation is based on value.

      I just watched a video about a couple whose parents bought one of those lots way back when and maintained ownership. The couple inherited it, found out it was a scam, but decided to go and see it for themselves. It is indeed just barren scrub land, and the two-acre lot in the middle of nowhere is currently worth $167 and the yearly. taxes are $5.

    The tax collector states the land is worthless, undeveloped without roads. But the property generates huge tax bills? I don't understand. How can worthless land generate tax revenue? No development plus no property value equals no tax revenue.

    Saying this is costing the county millions a year is disingenuous. It costs them nothing.
    The fact that this county won't sieze the land and are instead letting fees stack up is ridiculous.
    The postage on the bills is worth more than the 0.79% taxes they could collect on a 0.50 acre lot in the middle of the desert.
    If they were smart they would start seizing the land and be done with it.
    They are generating a net loss in revenue due to incompetence. Typical government.

    Someone should think about the real bad guys in this scheme, the county planning department who approved these subdivisions and all the county agencies that processed the maps --they were motivated by the large fees from the developers that the land owner paid them. The expected revenue from property taxes must have been too much to resist. Approving and recording these subdivisions without any conditions such as improving the land, building roads, water, septic,...etc was a crime against humanity motivated by greed.

    • @davidlaney6153
      @davidlaney6153 2 года назад +2

      yes and no, their job is not to picks winners and losers, that being said, in Arizona subdivision development is highly regulated with developers being required to identify a 100 years worth of water supply, and identify all utility lines from the lot lines, so a buyer can quickly determine the utilities and water supply situation. These folks should have determined that these lots were way beyond the standard commute times to Albuquerque (the closest employment base).

Most of these owners can not be reached or have died and it makes no sense at all to send out monthly property tax bills. Many years ago a very sharp and old Government Accountant and Auditor told me, that outstanding old debt that can not be recovered must be written off. Apparently it raises to many questions and the bad debt also has a negative impact on financial records.

    As a sub-issue, foreigners should not be allowed to buy American land. It adds to the overhead costs of trying to communicate with them and follow up, even for legal procedures and foreclosure. Besides, it is not reciprocal. An American expat in their country is forbidden from buying a home or land -- all across Asia. No country allows that. Over a million communist Chinese have a U.S. green card and have bought up millions of properties, especially in California. An American is forbidden from buying a home in China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Philippines. Congress must stop this one-way exploitation. In California, the Chinese corruption money (i.e., money laundering from bribery in China) has driven up home prices and priced working-class Americans out of affordable housing.

No one in the city, nor the taxpayers are getting shafted here.

We did try to find where these lots were located but the closest actual dirt road was more than 5 miles from the lots. In order to locate them we had to get GPS location then take the polaris to the lots. Several arroyos later we finally decided it wasn't worth the trip to even see where the lots were located as a normal vehicle would never make it out that far. For us there was no reason to hold on to these lots. The county had no plans to develop the area or at least none they shared with us. We quick claimed the deed to a young man who was speculating that maybe in his life they might have some value. We doubted in our lifetime, say another 30 or so years if we are lucky, anything would happen with development.

    I was living in Albuquerque for a time when that all took place initially. I remember it and thought at the time, who would fall for something like this? I guess with the false pics and all that, anybody could. Similar thing happened in So Cal with the land around the Salton Sea, but at least that really was a resort area once...now you can buy land there for pennies.

    This is about property taxes. Property taxes equate to the Government owns the land. Look up land patent... you actually own the land and pay no taxes. Who would think that the mainstream news media would create a story that was in favor of a slave tax. Property taxes are a way to kick poor people off their land when the can not pay. I think this all worked out well. The State should server the people, not steal from them.

    The same thing as Rio Rancho. Worthless but now third largest city in NM, pop.110,000. But Rio Rancho is next to Albuquerque There is no reason to live in Rio del Oro, no jobs, small lots, no utilities. Off grid would be ideal with solar and a well.

    if u had any of the land out there i know what i would do . (1) build a water tower (2) dig a and lay pipes (3) build or place water evaporators and place time in toobs (4)solar panels and solar banks to charge and power water pumps .. all of the to suck water out of the cool night air and store it for latter . charge it ion the day run it at night . could also have it as a Water Reclamation device.. could also sell of silicon and Trace minerals . well that is some ideas i have .. would be cheaper my way than try and get money from dead people ?
