Hello- Near the beginning you said that this was made by "J Car"????? I've looked everywhere for this specific one and can't find it. Can you provide a link to the supplier? Is it only available in the EU? Thanks.
Yes, for sure... the FT857D doesn't have an in-built antenna tuner. If you see anything relating to tuning in the menu it's because you can drive the Yaesu ATAS screwdriver antenna with it.
+sean808080 I thought so when I saw it in a car up at the radio club. I was going to do a video showing it being installed in a Toyota Prado but have been busy and on leave so I haven't had access to our pool vehicles. When I get back I will record the temporary installation and it being used. The only couple of downsides I can think of is... if the passenger seat is occupied and the passenger has a drink in cup holder No2, and you want a drink it will have to be a flavoured milk or something in a square container as it will be easier to hold between your legs. I've no idea how many cup holders an FJ Cruiser has, or the position of them. Bear in mind too, if the cup holders are near a bulkhead you may not be able to rotate the radio head enough to be able to use the other cup holder. The video I haven't done yet would show the pros and cons.
Thanks for the feedback. I just completed a mount using a gooseneck bolted to the seat mount. Works perfectly and I don't have to give up a precious cup holder LOL Thanks and 73
Thanks for the feedback. I have since replaced the cup holder with this method: ruclips.net/video/W7JVnKNNBDU/видео.html I think the mobile phone mount is better ti be honest. You can also fit the remote head to a Go-Pro suction cup mount and stick it to the windscreen.
OK, I'm going to answer my own question. After searching on line for 2 hours and looking at thousands of pictures of cell phone holders, it is a Cellet PH650. Sometimes it is sold on eBay by listing just the phone that fits it. You can also buy it directly on line from cellet.com
Bought of these holders of eBay works a treat with the 857 thanks for the video 👍
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you found it useful.

Also I attached ferrite clamps on both ends of the separation kit extension leads to help prevent RF getting back into the radio body.
+VK6ZMS Thanks Martin... useful stuff.
A very clever chap indeed :-) I found the double sided tape failed when warm.
+VK6ZMS And so modest too... thanks for the feedback, I'll get some small bolts.
