SIRUI 40mm T1.8 1.33X S35 AF Anamorphic Lens : sirui.kckb.me/8d5d6072
The AF is good enough for most set shots as you turn it on, grab focus then turn it off. I've found this workflow works well with older or slower auto-focus lenses.
Hello Matthieu. Thanks for this great review of this sirui anamorphic 40 mm T1.8 autofocus lens. As always, It's very informative.
Would you mind to tell me the reference of the diopter you use with for anamorphic close focusing please ? What do you think about this diopter ( chromatic aberation ? softness ? Tint ?)
@@fidymarotia5166 its the Schneider 95mm diopter, but I will make a review of different diopters very soon , so stay tuned
@@MathieuStern woaw ! thank you so much. I can't wait to see your new video on Diopter. I saw a Tito Ferradans's video on a lens filter holder, and he mentioned your name to thank you for this idea 😉 (I think it was after you met in Paris...)
It's my turn to thank you for your work, I'm so grateful for all you've done to bring new perspectives on this long journey of photo and videography. You do a very good job mate, and thank you for all the shift you made for the community.
The effort you put into this review was fantastic, music, script and visual story telling over the top. 5 Stars.
Wow, thanks!
Cool footage.
I don't buy that the reason for noise is the weight of the glass...I'd bet it just comes down to the servo motors used.
that's maybe a mix of both
My name is Jean Girard and I am a racecar driver just like you...Great Review
It will be very useful on cameras that support open gate video recording
bro still exported it in 16:9 🤦🤦
seems like a great kit lens
Great review Mathieu
@@AndrewGoodCamera thanks a lot Andrew and happy new year on RUclips!
Super review, can you please tell me if it’s for full frame? Any problem with vignetting?
its for Super 35 but I didn't see any vignetting on FF
I'm curious. What software do you use to correct the anamorphic squeeze?
Premiere Pro
@@MathieuStern 👍thx
My only problem is the loud motor other than that I love this lens ( my 1st Anamorphic lens though )
same !
this will be great for discrete street photography
This is so sad. Blazar is making incredible lenses, and sirui makes the least anamorphic lenses possible 😂
Meaning>?
I have question an can make Anamorphic squeeze filter from concave and curved optical glass?
This is ground breaking, but the noise is pretty bad
It looks like a spherical mixed with a anamorphic adapter
Somehow it is, as the Anamorphic glass is here not in front but in the back of the lens. This seems to reduce the characteristics.
Maybe define "Anamorphic" at the start.
It appears you were using a Sony camera....will there be versions that will auto focus on other camera brands?
Not sure yet, but check their official page , link in the description
I struggle to see the point of these 1.33x squeeze lenses.
They just don't scratch the anamorphic itch for me.
did you throw a cellphone into the river?
It's a Nokia, it can survive the Seine River :) ... but more seriously, no... we didn't throw a cellphone in the river, it's just editing magic, we threw a rock instead
The video cuts away so it's most likely a rock that was thrown in
@@MathieuSternnice editing magic and thanks for saving the environment:)
I was thinking the same but I saw the hidden cut when they changed it to a rock haha
ah, i thinlk you might be wrong there. I think the worlds first af anamorphic lense is actually the Blazar Apex
nope, the Apex is not sold yet, but the Sirui is, so it makes it the first one available to the public.
but yes, they are very close in the race
@ weeeeeelllllll to be fair the link you shared does NOT lead to a store where you can actually buy the lens. It leads to an indigogo page where you can help FUND the lens. So technically neither of them are being sold right now
@@harraldschmitt9113 good point :)
1.55x and above makes sense, ...but this 1,3x does not make any sense at all.
When you cannot shoot open gate, so you shoot only 16:9, then 1.33X gives you the standard cinematic 2.35:1 aspect ratio while still using the full sensor (no cropping). That is the point - not horizontal flares or dew-drop specular highlights - those are just anamorphic artifacts. A greater squeeze than 1.33X on a 16:9 AR would give a very narrow AR that is not obviously desirable.
I have this lens, The image quality is meh. I still prefer using my sigma art II 24-70. Still has better image quality than this one
