    EVGA had announced in the past of overheating in some of their 1070 and 1080 Graphics Cards with the ACX 3.0 Cooling system. This video serves as a guide as to how one would go about obtaining said thermal pads and then installing them in their EVGA 1070/1080 FTW (or non) versions of the card.
    Click here - www.evga.com/th... to register your EVGA card to qualify for the optional thermal pads and install them yourself, or get latest BIOS update for your particular graphics card from the same link.

    Thank you for this video, you really helped me out so much! You essentially helped out someone getting their 1st GPU/PC built. Cheers! And yeah, 5 years later from when this issue came out I'm here. (Which if anyone has a EVGA 1070/80 still or got a used one, you can still get the thermal pads from EVGA! 12/11/2021) Now to set the fan RPM for each temperature. ;)

    Cool guide, I plan to get that card. They got the thermal pads for improved cooling system, it can reduce the temperature by 24C even before the BIOS update. The Bios update only gets 18C reduction and only 4C with the thermal pads already applied

    • @TheDonTech

      Thanks, man!
      I actually noticed quite a difference in the cards overall thermals, and I haven't updated the BIOS on that card yet so I'll look forward to making it even cooler. Though both cards do not run as cool as my Asus 1080 Strix card, but that one has 3 fans.
      Do you plan on getting the 1070 or 1080?

      1070, maybe 1080 if it the price gets down with the 1080ti and Vega, or go with a Vega card, maybe

    What thickness of the new thermal pads???

    • @TheDonTech
      @TheDonTech  7 лет назад +2

      According to an EVGA FAQ they are as follows;
      In most cases, thermal pads used by EVGA are 1mm in thickness. This would include all VRAM thermal pads.
      1080/1070 FTW:
      Baseplate (Narrow) Pad: 26mm x 110mm x 1mm +/-0.1mm thickness
      Backplate (Wide) Pad: 58mm x 110mm x 2mm +/-0.1mm thickness
      Non-FTW, Non-Classified, Non-Black Edition:
      Baseplate (Narrow) Pad: 26mm x 93.4mm x 1.5mm +/-0.1mm thickness
      Backplate (Wide) Pad: 58mm x 93.4mm x 2mm +/-0.1mm thickness
      You can find the direct link to the FAQ here - www.evga.com/support/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=59664

    Replacing the thermal paste on my 1070 and for the life of me I cannot get that end fan connector off. Simplest part and it's like fused on there. I tried everything but was starting to pull the entire connector off so I'm just servicing it with that still connected. BS like that frustrates the piss out of me.

    Is there any way to buy new pads on amazon after all these years the EVGA link is dead, what are the dimensions and how thick are the thermal pads?

    • @TheDonTech
      @TheDonTech  Год назад

      Hey there! Sorry for the late reply. Your best bet is probably checking on ebay, or possibly calling EVGA themselves to see if they may offer extended life support for the product.

    This video is amazing but i do have one question i have the msi dragon version, would the thermal pads be the same and can i still get them from evga?

    • @TheDonTech
      @TheDonTech  2 года назад

      Thank you for your kind words! As far as I am aware, this thermal pad replacement was only recommended for some specific makes and models of the EVGA card. You should check with MSI and see if they had the same requirement - but as far as I am aware they did not. I think you would have to validate your product serial number with EVGA along with registering the product in order to get the thermal pads as well. Take care!

    If I buy another 1070 ftw to SLI... have they been fixed or do I have to get more pads from EVGA and put them in on the new card????

    • @TheDonTech
      @TheDonTech  7 лет назад

      Michael,
      Sorry for the late reply! I would double check with EVGA support to see if your particular card would still recommend the pads. If your card is new enough, I would imagine not. But say you purchased a card that has been "sitting" for awhile, you very well may need them.
      Hope that helps!

    • @MichaelAU-AG
      @MichaelAU-AG 7 лет назад

      thanks... can I SLI a non FTW 1070 with my FTW 1070??? I have a power problem?? I only have a 650watt psu... its gold and fully mod but for 2 FTW 1070s I need at least like 710 or so watts but if I get a non FTW card I think the power draw will be within 650??? IDK???? id have to buy a new psu and all....

    • @TheDonTech
      @TheDonTech  7 лет назад

      In regards to the PSU, a gold rated 650watt should be able to do SLI just fine with 2x FTW cards, you would most likely run into an issue of NOT having 4x 8 pin power connectors.
      In order to configure SLI you will need to have 2x cards that are the same model and memory size, and since the FTW variants are a different model style (similar to the TI's) you cannot run them together. I would suggest buying the same model card if you wanted to go with SLI to prevent any conflicts. Also make sure you have a proper SLI Bridge :)

    • @MichaelAU-AG
      @MichaelAU-AG 7 лет назад +1

      Awesome!!!! If I decide to do SLI I will look and see if I have 4x8pin pci power and ask the guy at microcenter what HB sli bridge I need for my mobo. PC part picker says you need like 659W PSU I guess the 9 watts will not matter??? That's with my computer build and all the same parts. SLI just looks so cool and I want to get like 80+ FPS in Witcher 3 on my 2560x1080 Z35predator. with the one 1070ftw I get 55to80 fps with an average of about 65ish... I get 100fps if I look at the sky... LOL!!!! some of the graphically intense places it dips down into the low 50's. Thanks for your help man.... I really am greatful that you actually answer your comments section. you have my sub......

    • @MichaelAU-AG
      @MichaelAU-AG 7 лет назад +1

      I just looked... the PSU only has 2 VGA's on it.. so id have to get a new PSU... BOOOOOO!!! that's ok... I learned something new. so its gonna cost me like $700 for cable extensions, PSU, Video card, HB bridge. IDK that's a lot... if the 1070 goes down to like $300 or so dollars id do it. its cheaper to get a 1080 CLASSIFIED....

      There's a serial number on the card and on the box, however I am not sure if EVGA still offers this promotion? Also it only was needed for certain cards and I think they fixed the issue pretty quickly.

I've inspect my gpu and it did have thernal pads installed. but one thing i forgot is to check the heatsink plate like what you did here 6:45. should i check it?
    p:s : i found evga put thermal pads on wrong place which is not on top of vram 13:45. i changed it.

    • @TheDonTech
      @TheDonTech  5 лет назад +1

      According to EVGA, once they recognized the issues all subsequent released cards did not have the problem and did not need to have any after market configuration done. Except in your case you find out that EVGA didn't follow their own directions so maybe it's wise to double check for yourself lol. I'm glad this video was still helpful after all this time.
