I use my Alexa devices to set SIMPLE timers and have it run Routines I setup and also turn on/off a device, or ask it the weather. If I gotta pay for that then I guess I'll be dumping the eco system! I have NO need to have a "conversation" or do I need a "friend" to talk to or do I have the need for complex things. I'm happy or should I say can tolerate the rolling billboards of CRAP on my display echo's but I have NO need for "advanced" features. At $10 a month there's NO WAY I'm signing up for that shit! PERIOD!
Same here. Like 99% of the features Alexa has, I do not use or need.
I use my Echo for 2 things. I tell it what artists and songs I want to hear and ask it " Echo, notifications " when I have an order from Amazon. That's it. And if they want to charge me for that, I don't need it. Period.
I imagine some old features will be upgraded and included in the monthly plan

I have smart lights that I have alexa use to turn on and off and on routines, I'll be damned if I am going to pay Amazon extra to do that for me. I'll incinerate every one of those products before I give them an additional dime for doing "that" for which they've been doing for the last 2 years for nothing. AI stuff and advanced features, sure I get that, but I don't use it, simple things like smart home devices turn on/off, no way, not now, not ever.
Currently use Alexa for automation. If they decide to charge for that I will switch to Google and to Walmart + dumping Prime
They start with their firesticks so that you cannot sideload in the future.... Now, Alexa. What's next? You just have a membership to shop (like Sams, Costco, BJ's)? I understand about price hikes because of inflation and all. But it would be a bad decision to charge for something that is currently free. I only use my Alexa to turn on one light. If they start charging for that. I will have to say "Alexa, move out... You should be paying rent to stay here and use my Internet and electric! " 😅

the only thing i use the echo alexa for is to ask simple things like scores and weather. If they start to charge for that, the echo will be at the thrift store
They keep this up charging for just about everything in sight I guess were gonna have to start cancelling Alexa and all its stuff and stick with google

Amazon has somewhat lobotomized the current version of Alexa. They don't update the software enough either. Their music player is full of bugs.
Based on the ads I've seen for Alexa people already ask it questions or give it commands like they are talking to a real person. Alexa only focuses on key words. IE: You want know the weather forecast you don't have to say "Alexa, what is the weather like outside" or something like that. All you have to say is "Alexa forecast" or if you want to know the current time you say "Alexa time" or for notifications say "Alexa notifications" etc. I don't need or want to have a conversation with a machine. I do see where this might be good for lonely elderly people so they can feel like they have a companion.

They charge, I cancel. How hard is it to understand: I don’t care about nor want AI. I like knowing if what I’m seeing is REAL.

Unfortunately Alexa controls my entire home. I control everything. Lights, fans, thermostats etc. total smart home but I will never pay for Alexa.

The cost of Alexa has never been free. Like everything else, it's baked in the cost we pay for the products we purchase. The rest will be pure profit.
That's not the same as paying for a subscription.
Somebody needs to tell amazon that it's interpretation not translation when you are dealing with the spoken word. Remember, the movie is called THE INTERPRETER, not THE TRANSLATOR.
Interpreters deal with the spoken word. Translators deal with the written word.
This makes me glad I never got on the alexa bandwagon.
Were gonna go backwards we will use the bare minimum we ll play the records and just use the phones to chat. I love the Internet. But that could go too maybe not in my lifetime but maybe. I ll say goodbye Alexa. AI can go with Alexa into the sunset. Microsoft and Apple have too much contol.

i have not use my amizon devices ovwr 6 months a stick aeco and eco show its in the box and if a sub is reqired its back to facotory stock and becomes ewaste. being i am slightly blind google home mini i like the best.

It only charges if ya want its "Nest Aware" service, and that's optional.
As long as they don’t charge an arm and a leg, they will probably not have people abandon ship.
I pay for prime, and music separately, so that's £9 and £18. If this is a charge on top of that, then I will switch to Apple music. Prime is only good for cheaper delivery, the video side is not too good, and music is limited without the music app subscription. Do it Amazon, see who you lose. Try to remember, it's not the teens who pay for your goods and services. Know your customer, not your audience 🙃
