Best comment ever. Love having a meal with a Bill Simmons clip!
Or driving home from work, and Billy decides to give us a 30 minute topic 😁
💯💯
Bill’s just grinning ear to ear in the thumbnail as he prepares to watch the Laker circus act next year😂😂
just like all the rest of us sane fans
Im the same way😂😂😂
Let him have it. The Celtics have been bad most of his adult life, and even the good teams underperformed. I know as a Lakers fan winning two rings in what was supposed to be the Celtics championship window was very satisfying.
Good, i feel the same way.
Dont worry bronny is prepared to save the day with his 20% shooting and 0% from 3
Sad the battle for LA never happened. Clips and Lakers made deep playoff run on different years
yup, was just gonna say that. all that hype and excitement (most of which was warranted tbh) and in the end all we got was a couple of decent regular season match-ups that didn't mean a thing. massive letdown for the league.
I mean no one should have ever bought the idea of the Clippers being good. They are still the Clippers. Even if Kawhi wanted to play in LA but not with Lebron
Why was Bill so confused about the trade kicker? LeBron wants the power to choose where he gets traded. And if he agrees to a trade, he will get a bonus.
Doesn't seem very hard to understand. He's just a hater.
Yeah just about him finding a way to get paid more than they can technically pay him
@@cameronramey9667no, you’re just a stan. That’s pretty objectively crazy to grant the team the trade (not exercise your no trade clause) - which really means he orchestrated it, let’s be honest - and ask for a bonus for asking for a trade out of town? I don’t blame him but logically speaking it’s pretty insane.
@@michaelturley8222 Sounds like you understand it, what's the problem here? Are we just arguing whether Pelinka is a bad GM? I thought that was the conventional wisdom already. But as far as this contract goes it seems pretty safe, LeBron has never asked for a trade in his career🤷
@@cameronramey9667 no the point is, it’s weird to ask to be compensated for a trade you want. Trade kickers are usually meant to help protect the player from the chances of getting traded. So having both the ability to block a trade and profit from a trade in the same contract is a bit illogical. That’s why it’s never happened.
There's no way they're missing the playoffs with bronny on the team
Lmfao. You’re too funny, kid.
That is exactly my thought. Seriously, he will hype up the Lakers....
I just threw up in my mouth...🤢
Bill clearly is having a blast with the Lakers circus.
The trade kicker just means Lebron determines if and when he is traded, and then he'll get paid extra on top of it
Yeah he took a discount to stay below second apron but the new team doesn’t get the discount. That was a Laker deal only.
Yeah I was shocked that bill Simmons didn’t know that.
The no trade clause means
Lebron can veto any possible trade. It doesn’t mean that he cannot be traded
No one wants Lebron...The trade clause is just posturing...Lebron has to always make it look like he is calling all the shots.
Bill never mentions Phoenix lol kd just gets free passes
He has his favorites that’s for sure.
I dunno if viewing the Suns as a nonfactor is a “free pass” for KD
@@claydouglas2526 he views the lakers as a non factor but brings them up in every nba discussion.. He views KD as this great player but never mentions his teams lack of success
@@wapoj4220 Well it's 2 different things.
The Suns can be a non factor but KD is still great. Idk what you want from KD. He's been dealing with injuries since 2019 and when he's not injured, one or more of his key teammates are injured or they leave.
- 2020 he's out all year
- 2021 Kyrie and Harden get injured
- 2022 They lose Harden, and now they have absolutely no depth because they traded it all away
- 2023 KD gets injured and traded to Phoenix (only plays 8 games for em before the playoffs). Team loses Bridges via trade, and CP3 and Cam Payne to injury.
- 2024 Beal but he's injured. Now they have no CP3, no Cam Payne, no Ayton, no Bridges.
Really it's just bad luck for KD. Sure, we can get on his case for leaving OKC but that doesn't mean we have to put the last 5 yeas on KD. Karma got him bad.
On the Lakers side of things. They are a non-factor but they are the most popular team in the NBA, so that kinda outweighs a lot of things. It's like the Knicks. Even if they're slightly good, they get talked about more than better teams that are true contenders.
@@wapoj4220it’s because they live rent free in his head. He lives among the Lakers fans, knows they’ve been the more consistent team between the Celtics and Lakers, and knows odds are Lakers hold more titles when it’s all said and done.
So he’s never content when the Celtics win, it’s more about what the Lakers do next.
Trust me we weren’t thinking about the Celtics in 2020. Notice the difference?
Because you can obviously waive your no trade clause like Bradley Beal did lol.
I think they forgot about that...he didn't have a kicker
Yeah but Beal didn't have a trade kicker which a mean way to keep your team paying for your deal after you leave. Also it screws the team you're going to because now your cap space is higher. Especially when that 15% kicker is based on a 50m max deal
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Beal had a no trade clause and a trade kicker in his deal, when in D.C.
Bill Simmons pod is like that friend you haven't seen in 2 years that is good to see for 5 minutes until you remember why you stopped hanging out with them.
I could see both LA teams, Golden State and Pheonix all out after the play in round!
1-4 OKC, DAL, MIN, DEN
5-8 NOP, MEM, SAC, HOU
9-13 SAS, GSW, PHX, LAL, LAC
14-15 POR, UTA
As of right now no way denver is top 4 anymore...they 5 at best...the top 3 separated themselves...they have 0 shot at being 3rd let alone higher...even with injuries...
Hey Bill It’s the Taco Bell Kid here’s my top 15 list in the modern nba. I did the right thing and included bird and Steph in tier 1
The Modern NBA (1980-present)
Michael Jordan - 6 titles
------------
Tier 1 (no particular order. You could literally argue for eternity)
Kobe Bryant - 5
Shaq - 4
Magic - 5
Kareem - 5 (not including Milwaukee)
Tim Duncan - 5
Lebron James - 4
Stephen Curry - 4
Larry Bird - 3
Tier 2
Dwayne Wade - 3
Kevin Durant - 2
Hakeem - 2
Isiah Thomas - 2
Kawhi Leonard - 2
Scottie Pippen - 6
Respect to the 1980s 76ers and Kevin M
This list is based on championships (“Just win baby), dominance, consistency, head to head matchups, and most importantly defending your title. If you steal the belt you must defend it. In my eyes the hardest accomplishment in the NBA is to 3 peat or even to go back to back. Especially if you are the centerpiece of an offense or share the work load 50 50 with another teammate who is probably on this list.
Okc gets clippers 2025 pick😭😭so if kawhi misses a ton could be ugly
No trade clause is just LeBron’s ability to say no to a trade if they get an offer that they really like. Basically stops them from trading him to Portland or Oklahoma City or something in February. Unless he actually wants to go.
Why you say OKC? That would be a dream. Play 1 year with an absolutely stacked team. Get credit for a 5th ring on his retirement year.
@@Shortballa11y'all 🗑️ master LBJ dgaf about no championship it's all about money in his overrated Pink 👄 lip overrated 🗑️ son in media headlines you so delusional
It’s great that LeBron’s dream is to play in the NBA with his son, but I’m pretty sure the dream of every 19-year old kid is to not have to spend all their time with their dad and his friends and coworkers
Bill you know the trade kicker is for the new tv deal if he gets traded.
But he has a no trade clause, so he wouldn't be traded, unless he wanted to be traded.
@@shorewall it's when he gets traded he doesn't have to work in a new deal.
Lakers clippers suns warriors all missing the playoffs
I like this as a parlay. Let’s go
no chance the clippers miss the playoffs if kawhi plays 60% of the games. Only chance he is if he really destroyed his knee again
@@ebukaiwuagwu9371Khawai playing? Good joke
@@Teebagzzz he literally played 70 games last year shut up
@@ebukaiwuagwu9371 draft is really good next year apparently, so there’s gonna be a bigger incentive to tank for all the fringe teams that are already aware they’re not going anywhere in the playoffs.
Clippers will be alright and still make the playoffs
Last season all the moves were awesome and perfect complement...and went south
I believe this year the expectation is lower...and they might sneak on somebody
Lebron and AD come back from the Olympics exhausted, it’s not gonna be good for the Lakers
I love the realism I just think there are better ways to say “though we wish him nothing but health moving forward, the likelihood of a player with a history of being unhealthy is low coming off one of his most durable seasons”, without sounding like you’re basically saying bet on this player being injured this year 😂😂😂
Underrated take/comment. 🤝
*Mavs killing teams a quarter into the season
Bill- ‘didn’t know that Klay can still shoot…like do you see how spaced out the floor is for Dallas now? Luka, who made 6 All NBA 1st teams and a Finals appearance by age 25, is actually pretty good’
Ryan- ‘He’s just killing teams 1 on 1 and teams can’t stop the Luka- Lively pick and roll. If they double him or the roller, Klay or Kyrie end up with a wide open 3’
Bill- ‘Like, who would’ve thought that the opposing offense wouldn’t be able to keep up?’
Ryan- ‘us, the experts at ESPN who only watch from time to time, and all the casuals in the comment section, had no earthly idea’
Bill- ‘I’m actually pretty high on this Dallas team now’
James Harden teams do not miss the playoffs
“Kyle, turn the TikTok camera on!”
They say this every year
Was there an episode out today, or is this from last week?
This is from last week
thought the same thing. the dog days of summer are here
As a depressed lakers fan, this is hilarious. Bill is funny
The no trade clause with the 15% trade kicker means that they cant trade him unless he signs off on it, and if he does then they have to give him that 15%
Yeah I was surprised he found this confusing
This is like a first take level topic. It's July
1:49 yes he can waive the trade clause. So he has to consent to the trade so he can't be sent to Detroit or something
Didnt Brad Beal have NTC + 15% kicker?
Didn't Brad Beal also have the NTC and trade kicker combo?
Changing of the guard in the western conference
The Lakers aren’t contenders right now, but man people acting like they were dog crap last year. As of now they’ll probably be in the play-in range again but clippers got worse and the only team that finished behind them that I think may pass them is Grizzlies with healthy Ja
Grizz finished 2nd in the West 2 years in a row while returning their top 3 players who are all younger than 25. Grizz are going to be dangerous.
Post the full show
I don’t think he’s allowed to do so because of his contract with Spotify.
I’m pretty sure Spotify would put something on the contract saying they can’t.
I don’t get why he’s so adamant that Bronny being on the team will affect anything. He’s literally a 55th pick 19 year old, sure the media is going nuts for him but he’s not going to impact the team whatsoever this year
Memphis is a tough bet for me. They're a sneaky injury watch team imo. Ja has been hurt a lot since the 22 playoffs, and so has Marcus. I love the guy, but all the physically seems to have caught up to him. They've also lost pieces without adding much
Well that starting lineup was 22-8 with no Vanderbilt. So doubt they will miss the playoffs completely.
You’re one of the absolute few who knows ball and isn’t a troll on their fleeting 30 minute lunch break lol
The lakers almost missed the playoffs last year, even having a healthy season by Lebron and AD.
This season they are one year older and with the Olympics messing up their preparation there is a high chance they will have more injuries.
So yeah, they're not in a good place.
But at least they have the Lebron family circus which brings money.
Is it possible for Lakers to miss playoffs? Sure. But are there clear better teams ahead of them besides Memphis OKC Dallas Denver Minni?
Are Lakers really much worse than Sacramento and New Orleans and Suns and GSW? All of those are either playin/first round or in a health/PR limbo. Or they wont handle what's left of Clippers or the young guns Rockets? These all teams are at worst a 50/50 for Lakers to win against.
Hey Bill, I see you enjoying a TopoChico, have you ever tried the green bottle? It's lime flavored.
never tried the lime flavor. Is it good?
@@sohailalikhan7003 I like both but I think the lime is a little better
No, they probably won’t
It’s a big if, but Ayton consistently just plays with 90% effort, I really think a fun surprise team like Bubble OKC or Sacramento 2yrs ago would be Portland after picking up Advija and Clingan.
I wish he would get on NBA Twitter and tell all the fanboys that no one believed Lebron was going to take a discount.
Ryan, whatever, always looks so fucking god damn quizzical. Lmfao.
Idk why but I have it made up in my mind that the lakers are not competing this year. Just focus on trading the assets during the season when they are playing their best.
Bill looks like Rick Beato all of a sudden... who's with me?
Had season tickets and still doesn’t know a thing about the clippers. Paul George is not that guy yet you think he’s gonna make a drastic difference
Bill's and Russillo's take re: Clippers missing the playoffs in 24-25 going to age badly when they make it. The Clippers are not going to be as bad as everyone who doesn't follow the team think they will be.
The only Teams with players at that level of salary are the ones that wouldn't do it (Bulls would be lanced bringing in LeBron with the whole Jordan boogie man situation) or shouldn't do it (Suns as it probably costs you both Beal and KD to get off Beal and Reaves is your best potential young asset in return).

The no trade clause/trade kicker is LeBron's way of controlling Bronny James playing time.
If Bronny doesn’t get playing time, LeBron can ask for a trade with Bronny.
LeBron is the Darth Sidious of the NBA
Clippers may fall, but Grizzlies likely to be top 6. Lakers likely to be in similar spot, battling for 7-10 spot to make play-in.
That trade kicker is for when they announce the expansion teams for the 2025-2026 season, is it? That way he gets traded to the Vegas team.
He signed a 2 year deal so he can do the same thing with Bryce he did with Bronny . That’s what nobody is paying attention to.
A team with the 4th best record since January 1st isn’t going to make the playoffs?
I think the pendulum swung too far
Every year this same narrative 😂 they become the “best team” late in the season because the refs start going into high gear and gifting them +200 free throw differentials once they realize they are about to miss the playoffs
Honestly, I do think the nuggets in the first round was a bad match up, however the west has gotten better I’m hoping they can get off to a good start
Plus LAL has the 2nd most missed games due to injury.
15m trade kicker, is that if Lebron waives the no trade clause he still gets a boost to his salary as compensation
Why would Bronny playing in the G-League be a distraction? By the 2nd game of the NBA season Bronny will be long forgotten
If Lebron wants to be traded and ring chase mid-season or next summer, he can waive that no-trade part of the contract, and in the trade he gets that kicker. Basically Lebron is in total control lol.
I was really looking forward to hearing you talk about Ant coming off the bench for team USA. Honestly, I care more about getting to see Ant play than I do about the team winning the metal. Like, what are we doing here. Why tf is Devin Booker on the floor?
I'm a Devin Booker hater but I think it's fair to assume that Booker is more comfortable and capable playing off ball in a team setting with other superstars than Ant is. Booker has experience playing next to KD already while Ant is used to being the man. So let Ant be the man with the second unit.
@@derekbrown3447they have experience losing together.
Everyone needs to be actually thinking about the GAME of BASKETBALL in Olympic setting and FIBA rules. This is not an all star game. It has nothing to do with what sneakers folks wear. Whoever suggests that simply isn’t thinking either. When lebron is on the floor, the best lineup will have at two off-ball shooters. Guys willing to run around and come off several screens etc. And those same two guys should be able to spot up anywhere on the floor. The two best at that in the team are Steph and booker. I think AE is the best scorer and athlete on the team, but his game in the Olympic structure is more about transition and iso. And getting a bucket or several when they need it. Very important but he’s not coming off several screens, wearing defenders out etc with his game of play. This is a different type of game than the nba.
@@derekbrown3447 ayy… respect
Yes.
They can trade for Trae Young because the Hawks are going to be terrible next year. And they need to cash in on Trae's value otherwise their team has no assets for forever
This is the happiest bill has ever been
Fresh off the championship
Clippers and lakers fall off
Nba will have to create a play-in b4 the play-in for the lakers.
Bron not worried about winning/
Memphis, Houston, and San Antonio are in, Lakers and Clippers and Phoenix are out.
Lebron makes it really difficult for someone to like anymore. I used to really enjoy watching his teams but him and Rich Pauls controlling behaviour both with his teams and also with the media makes me look forward to the day he retires so i can gradually forget all of that and appreciate his truly legendary career.
I’m starting to realize that no matter how good you are as a journalist, it’s very very hard to watch most of the games for most of the teams. So if you’re covering the league, you’re gonna have one-dimensional takes. And if you’re covering a single team, you’re probably gonna have some bias. Guys like Stephen A are the worst example of this. He clearly just watches highlights and it shows. Bill is generally very good, but his Lakers analysis is so unbelievably predictable. Especially when you put it side by side with his Celtics analysis.
Lebron was willing to take less if they got Klay,Jonas or whoever the 3rd was and they got none of them so he didn’t take less
Don't sleep on the spurs to make a run. Play in at least I believe.
Clippers are always that team that could've been a contender if only the obvious didn't happen again and again
Lakers blow and i love it!!!!!! Hawks get their pick in 2025 too.
Bill I love u but please tell me why kyrie isn’t worth 30 even if no one else wanted to pay him which is bullshit.
God Bill is SO DENSE. He is missing the X factor in the Laker’s title potential: Bronny James is a team player and a winner.
Bill just hates to see Lakers nation thrive
Is this satire? lol
@@jzaragoz21 not at all. Bronny James is already a top 15 player in the NBA. It’s hard to imagine he won’t carry them to at least the WCF

Play in again 😂
Who's realistically trading for LeBron, essentially considering his age???
Seriously? That’s a dumb ass question
@215Legend Yup knew there would be 1 dummy show up and here you are.
Both will not be a top 6 seed. Play in okay.
LeBron is the coach, GM, president of basketball operations, and owner, why does he need a no-trade clause
Prediction, LeBron and Bronny will be on GS by the end of the year
Why does bill hate on lebron so much
The Clippers for sure will miss the playoffs. Kawahi is iffy at best with health and mood to playti win, same could be said for Harden yet more mood to play hard as well.. Clippers are destiny total rebuild, too rich too scared to tear totally down to the core but soon cap van force it as they did for warriors cap who will miss playoffs instead of Lakers who atleast have 2 bonified stars yet health and age is noted
the clippers cant tear it down because philly and okc have all of their draft assets until 2029
The Lakers didn't improve at all, and the Clippers got far worse, so I think the Clippers are missing the playoffs but the Lakers are still landing a bottom 3 seed. Really it comes down to availability of your top guys. LeBron and AD will probably miss a bunch of games as they did the 3 years prior to this recent one, but I doubt they'll miss enough time to be out of the playoffs.
The Clippers on the other hand are counting on Kawhi... and we know how that goes. Without PG to help out, it's pretty much a given they're gonna struggle all season, probably end up with the 9th spot, and lose in the play in.
sometimes these dudes act like they were born yesterday.
a No-Trade Claus within a contract but also having a Trade-Kicker.
bruh...a No-Trade Claus does NOT mean a player canNOT be traded. it just means that the player HAS TO AGREE TO THE TRADE. it gives the player veto power. thats all. but it does not mean they cannot be traded. so having a 15% Trade Kicker and having a No-Trade Claus still makes sense to me.
IF the player agrees to a trade, then they would also get the trade kicker. simple shit.
it aint hard to understand at all.
Bill moved to LA just to watch Lakers fans suffer. Dude is cruel and unusual
Stop comparing the Lakers, and the clippers in the LeBron and Kawhi era , LeBron Lakers, or more consistent and better😊
Does a bear do his thing in the woods?
Bill Simmons D'Angelo Russell how you doing LeBron in the back of his mind oh I tried to trade you for the ninth time😮😂😂😂😂😂
The old generation is done. Curry was the last one just because the younger generation wasn't ready yet.
Look at this year 2nd round Kyrie was the only 30+ superstar.
The only team this Lakers team lost to was the Denver Nuggets I dont think you can judge the team based off just that. If they played OKC they were winning so I dont get this whole notion of talking shit about this team. I think the Lakers will be a top 4 seed if they stay healthy you can come back to this comment at the end of season.
BILL SIMMONS AND THE " NAKED BURGLAR"
Oh bill...still thinking the celtics historically😂 better than LA

Bronny has been the worst summer league player 😂
Hold on I hate Russell as much as the next real jigga but 18 mmms for 18 & 6? Why do we do this? A bad series now we right off a player??? Seriously now Gabe Vincent on the other hand idk wtf happened to bro but then again he played sporadically
AD is too good to miss the playoffs with Bron and Reaves.
Van Lathan Jr. Was right. Bill is such a fucking scamp when the lakers are losing 😂😂
I mean LEBRON'S daughter should just play , same difference
Lets Go Rockets 🚀
This is the same clickbait nonsense Bill complains about. Lakers will make the playoffs as a 6-8 seed, just like this year.
Hahahah, Kings and Grizzlies will take spots. Both LA teams are definitely not making it. Try and keep up kiddo
@@FalseNi9e grizzlies will stink again because they’re snake bit. Anyone assuming some bounce back year from them doesn’t understand their awful karma. It’s over for that iteration of the grizzlies.
Also try being older than 25 when trying to talk down to people.
Lebron and AD are another year older, rookie HC coming from middle school experience, a stacked west, and the potential for the Bronny charade blowing up in their face. There’s a very good chance they miss the playoffs
