      @Outlaw By Nature It might not be made in America, but they have some of the best support service (in Dayton, OH) that I have ever experienced. I stupidly tried to play amateur gunsmith and take mine fully apart to clean it. In the process of doing so, under tension, a micro part shot off and lodged in my carpet never to been seen again. Rather than trying to eff it up further, I decided to call Chiappa and have them service it. Long story short, I told them exactly what I did, and I was responsible for screwing it up. They fixed it free of charge for me, and I bought it used!

    Fired the Gun myself, I have to say it is amazing. The trigger is smooth and quick, you fire .357 Magnum rounds at the speed of a 9mm pistol and it’s a Revolver, the sights are clean (The 60ds has a Green Rear Sight), and I had no problems with it at all. Truly deserves more credit. It may look ugly, but I care more about performance than prettyness. Truly an amazing gift from the Italians

    Hey Hickok, now I'm 78 y/o and in 2015 I purchased my first gun, a 686 4".357. Thought i died and went to heaven. 2 weeks ago I purchased my 14th. gun and it is the Rhino 40DS like the exact one you have. You have taught me all I know about guns, seriously--thank You. HOWEVER !!!!!!! I love this gun. I was sick for several months and did not shoot at all. This Rhino was the first gun I took to the range since 3 months of illness. WOW !!! The first 3 shots were dead center in the bulls eye, and most of the remaining 27 rounds were very much on target. It felt so good and I said to myself "thanks again Hickok" LOL !! I love this gun and think it is a nasty rascal. A few buddies really want to shoot it. Thanks again> Life is good.

      i always thought the conventional design looked ugly, with the barrel on top and nothing beneath it. there are a few where the lower part, beneath the barrel, continues all the way to the tip, and that looks a lot better, imo. so the rhino design isn't bad. it is strange looking, but i think i like it.

    • @thetman0068

      It definitely would help with accuracy as long as you can handle that thing thumping your palm. Imagine one in .45LC or heck even headspace the cylinder to fire a 10mm. Perhaps the lower barrel could be implemented on future military pistol designs to allow accurate fire of rounds a bit hotter than 9mm or .40S&W

  • @allaion2897
    @allaion2897 5 лет назад +248

    The Rhino was designed by Emilio Ghisoni, and it was the last thing he worked on before he died. Ghisoni was pursuing low bore axis revolvers in the 1970's and dedicated his life to making a better revolver. His advancements are exceptionally visible in the Mateba Sei Unica, a low bore axis, semi-automatic recoil operated revolver.
    Also, the Sei Unica actually does has a reduced recoil because it converts some of the recoil energy into stored mechanical energy because it recocks the hammer after every fired round.

    If you think about traditional revolver design. If you ponder that designs tend to advance linearly. Sam Colt put the barrel at the top of the cylinder because he designed the loading lever under the barrel in his black powder revolvers. That simple fact probably kept people thinking along the same manner as other designs that were considered improvements over the Patterson. Chiapa stepped out of the box on this and there are tremendous benefits

      Doberman Knives
      Ill be keeping my Smiths thank you. Not just because of its looks but honestly Id prefer that it pick the nose up a bit instead of going straight into my hand. I mean the only way id say that that kinda firearm would be great would be in higher caliber rounds which it isnt made in but also with such a high power round going straight into your hand you will still have your sight picture but will be grimacing from the baseball bat that just smacked your palm.

      Grag Reiser Yeah, but sometimes it's not that easy to see that clearly anyway when looking at the little viewer screen. It's when they go up on a full computer screen that it becomes obvious. Makes me look even dumber than I am. :-) It was very clear on the computer screen where my misses were going when shooting at the red plate. Weird that I could not see that while shooting. Just different when you are behind the trigger and looking through the muzzle blast and whatever recoil there is.

    I had to take this whole review with a grain of salt. I've had my Chiappa for several months and love it. I'm really glad that I bought it and had shot several hundred rounds before seeing your review on it. I love your reviews and normally find them to be right on target but you went a little over the top with all the negatives of how you disliked the look of the Chiappa. The review became more about the look than the function of the gun. I value your experience and wonder if I had seen your review first if it would have biased me on the Chiappa. Anyway, I'm glad I that I discovered what a great shooting gun it was before I saw the video.

    • @drshaw187
      @drshaw187 9 лет назад +18

      ***** I could not care less about how it looks. Performance is number one when I am deciding what to carry in different situations. To each his own. Not really sure how a 1911 semi-auto or MK19 grenade launcher fit in to the topic of revolvers but I will say that the Chiappa is way easier to conceal than either of them. I carried a 1911 in the Army and it is a great pistol and I also spent a great deal of time behind the MK19 but neither one of them has the reliability of a good revolver. I've seen way too many failure to fire and failure to feed on both the 1911 and the MK19. Those rarely occur with a revolver and when they do it is usually as easy to fix as pulling the trigger again.

    • @alessandrodanna7109
      @alessandrodanna7109 9 лет назад

      ***** To be honest having shot both the Chiappa and good quality 1911 I can say that reliability wise I would go with the Chiappa, everything else from trigger to ergonomics go to 1911 but it still failed to shot 50 rounds out of 200 I've put through it and before you start the gun was already broken in. And as a last thing the m9 or 92fs are some of the most reliable guns ever made they will eat everything you put through them and unless you use cheap magazines like the Americans did it will run perfectly in any condition (within reason).

    • @OtisFlint
      @OtisFlint 9 лет назад +4

      Alessandro D'Anna
      A good quality 1911 with a 25% failure rate? Lol. That pistol is junk. I have a rock island with 1800 rounds through it and 0 malfuntions, and in the world of 1911s mine is barely entry level.

    Great video,Mr.Hickok.
    The 357 magnum has one of the worst noises when being fired I have ever heard.
    Even with really good hearing protection on.
    I read that is was because of the velocity and the size of the particular round being fired.
    I actually sold the best revolver I ever owned in part because of that.
    Had the gun been a 41 or 44 magnum I might have kept it.
    I really like this space gun looking revolver but I would much rather buy a heavy barrel blued Smith or Colt or even possibly a Taurus revolver any day.

    Many firearms I thought ugly once, but years of watching have made me love the way they look... Oddly the old revolvers are of the opposite type for me.

      @@rrzro3622 it may be due to bore axis but I own several of both and all of my 357s kick harder than my 44s.

      Sforza1987 I do have to say it's a great looking gun and if I'd ever get a revolver this is what I'd certainly obtain. I would hold it and look at it all day long lol. It is a work of art.

    I love @hickok45 reviews. I immediately look for his reviews of any gun that catches my eye. I think the gun looks great. Reminds me of Blade Runner or something.
