It's time to watch the building if basketball ... one could not be without the other ... you needed bird and magic to make the miracle ... break this up into a few videos... but worth the watch ruclips.net/video/axbIoHqFaa8/видео.htmlsi=OAJOIOXPFPhLIgTn
Agreed. I always liked him and that hawks team. It sounds weird…but I always liked the way the rim sounded when he dunked. It like make a loud cracking sound. Something about the way he pulled it down.
I don't think a lot of the younger NBA fans will ever give Larry Bird the respect that his name deserves. These young folk don't seem to know much about the history of the NBA. All they see is what's happening today. It's like they don't even know that the NBA was on the verge of bankruptcy at the end of 1978. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson saved the league. Bird and Magic is the only reason we still have the NBA. By all means cheer for your favorite players in today's game. But show some respect when you talk about the true legends. You know the ones. The ones that did it first. The real GOATS.
That is always true in every sport with every generation. I grew up watching Larry and I'm sure I could not appreciate Russel and Chamberlin like I would if I grew up watching them. It is human nature to think your generation is the best generation...unless you are talking about music and then you better know the 70s was the BEST music. lol
Probably the greatest 4th quarter in playoff history. Bird was playing with two injured achilles heels and bronchial pneumonia. You could see the pain on his face. Great reaction.
I swear every player had to find out for themselves whether or not it was a good idea to poke the bear...Larry Bird! 😂😂😂. Some of the best games I've ever watched were between the Hawks and the Celtics! Nique was a heck of a BB player!
There are no wasted moves with Bird! There are some that just refuse to believe that Bird was that good...cuz he's white. It might be why we don't hear as much about him...sadly.
And still to this day one of the best game 7s I can remember... I feel sorry for the younger generation.. You could feel the enthusiasm thru the TV ... RIP NBA
Dominique's teams played in the East playoffs against the Celtics, Pistons and Bulls where those 3 teams won seven total titles over his first ten years in the league. That Hawks team in any other decade might have won a couple of chips.
You Could See That Larry wasn't Feeling Good at In This Too. A Few Months Later He Ended Up Having To Have Surgery On Both Feet. Also It was Written In A News Paper They Found Out Larry Played This Game While Having Bronchial Pneumonia. Wilkins Was Beautiful To Watch & It's Kinda Sad He & Team Never Won a Ring, At Least I Don't Think They Did? But Even Wilkins Has Said; Being a Great Athlete Isn't Enough Going Up Against A Great Player.
People forget how good Wilkins was and even today people under rate Bird. Bird shot 9 for 10 in that 4th quarter and Boston needed every shot and every point. Bird was the best all around player I have ever seen and to show how dominant Bird was = look at his first 9 years before the dual heel surgery. Bird won ROY and was 4th in the MVP vote - that rookie year Bird was the main reason Boston went from 29 wins to 61 wins = a 32 game turnaround. Then in the next 8 years in the MVP vote Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3,and 2nd again. Bird created the 50-40-90 shooting club - did it 2 years in a row (87 and 88) and was so close in 85 and 86 that if you total his stats for those 4 seasons = Bird averaged 50-40-90 over those 4 consecutive seasons = no other "goat" candidate can make such a claim.
And he did all that never healthy. Broke his hand and never shot as well in college, broken back only a few years into his career. He was never healthy in the NBA and still was that damn good.
So many times watching his games, he appeared to be the only player on the court, hard to explain, but I have never experienced that again, not even with Jordan
If you can watch the 4th quarter unedited, you can see just how clutch each shot was. The pressure was high on each possession. I highly recommend you seek that out somehow
Look at the players that are talking about Bird......These were the Best at that Time...Many are HOF today... I have never heard more Respect of any Player including Jordan, Kobi, Lebron.. ect.....From othert players Must be something to this.
Another Boston "GOAT"! As a Bostonian, I was fortunate to see many Celtics games with Jo Jo White, John Havlichek in the early - mid 70's through the Bird era. Today's young players need to go back to the "School of Basketball" so not to forget Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, D.J., Bird, Ainge, Kareem...Yes, Lebron is king, however he's on their trail...j.s.
Dude, I was lucky enough to catch Larry and Magic at the end, what followed was Jorden, Drexler, Olajuwon, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe ,Labron, Kawhi , Curry and all the others in that time frame. Its been great but i would take the 80's and 90's style/rules over the current stylr/rules
Great show FTB, please keep up the great work. I remember that old Hawks team, they were great and a lot of fun to watch. In any other era they'd have probably won a championship. Unfortunately that was the era of the Superstars: Bird & Magic. Enough said????
This is exactly why Bird was the best small forward in NBA history at least for his prime years. Clutch and a stone-cold killer. Lebron has the longevity but he simply never has had the ability to take over a game and carry his team to wins.
Remember that the Celtics, arguably the "whitest team" in NBA history, employed the first black player (Chuck Cooper) and first black player/coach (The Great Bill Russell), so it makes perfect sense that Larry Bird is the greatest white trash-talker (or greatest trash-talker period!) in NBA history, who is joined at the hip with Magic Johnson (arguably the greatest playmaker in NBA history) like blood brothers. Those of us who played the game, and loved the game, appreciate its hopeful, transcendent beauty.
I like how everyone says he wasn’t that athletic, wasn’t fast, couldn’t jump. He’d tell you what and from where he was going to do to you, and still nobody could stop him from doing it. That has to just drive everybody crazy. Only advantage was, he’s Larry Bird!
His first one or two moves were quick-witted but he was physically slow. There is a difference and Bird honed and understood that those two jab moves was all it would often take.
I very much appreciate you giving the time up to show old school pros and how it used to be in the day. They were the best of the best in our day-- giants walked the Earth then too. Great players are all over in this day, no question about it-- and one day this will be old school for the next generation. Thank you again for a great show-- you deserve all the success that is coming to you.
It must be said that Dominique Wilkins was an absolute BEAST and a top-class individual. Great player, good man. I would take "Nique" over LeFake any day.
Dude I seen him do that for years to everybody he played and we hated him for it. But looking back he was that guy. He catches the ball he doesn't dribble the air out of it. The man just went work even when they knew what he was gonna do. He was that nice.
If you notice one thing, look at the smiles on their faces, they played against a guy who may someday be recognized as the GOAT, and they're delighted to be one who played against him and got trash talked!!! LMAO To a man, they all admired him.
I've watched this game and they're not lying, that fourth quarter has to be one of the very best in NBA history. It was literally a bucket for bucket war against Bird and Dominique like he said it and it was made more epic by the fact that Bird indeed had a slow scoring night. It was a Game 7 ECF and I sadly feel like Dominique is still underrated and overlooked as an all-time great, he was that dude, the human highlight reel, a whole monster on that court, and his battles with Bird were real epic. I'll always like Dominique both because he's an all-timer but he makes sure to defend Bird and give him his flowers to this day. When Rodman repeated his bullshit salty ass rhetoric that Bird would be playing in Europe in today's league, Dominique was on Vlad saying Rodman is "wrong and stupid" and explain how and why. Greats always respect greats.
I love the respect all the NBA player give to Larry Legend.. Yes.. he would trash talk.. but he backed it upped. He is in the mix to be one of the GOAT's especially because his last 7 seasons? of playing... he was hurt.. not just the back but the achilles tendons.. this man was beat up.. an still playing awesome. Who does that in today's sports??? Any Sport? They don't need to anymore.. they make so much money if they get a bruised thumb.. they'll be on the sidelines... where's the heart, the competitive spirit..
I was in my 20s back then. My uncle was a Hawks fan, I liked Larry Bird, but wasn't that much into basketball. But I would go visit him, and my grandmother who lived with him and we often watched basketball. I got him laughing one night when I asked why the Hawks had on their trunks, a Packman with it's mouth opened about to eat a button. We both ended up laughing like a couple of idiots when we actually saw what the other was seeing. And it did take me a small amount of time to finally see the hawk head. He saw the Packman pretty fast, then said he couldn't un-see it after that. lol.
Oh and on an opinion Mr. Wilkins , simply this one of the top 5 small forwards / 2 guards to ever play the game. Not just super talented physically but super skilled.
While attending college Larry's team was playing mine and we heard they had a future all American on their team. So during warm ups we tried to guess which black player he was. Well we were wrong and he beat our league champion team and set our arena scoring record. Peace from Northern Michigan.
Oh, another great video - probably the best, if you can stand the first song, snd please do! Because they just get better and better. Is, Larry Bird, Bird is the word - 15 minutes of Larry Legend.
Many people don't realize that many of these games in the old Boston Garden were over 100°....there was no AC. Talk about physical and mental toughness.
I have NEVER seen a player who was talking about his opportunity to play against Larry that didn't tell his story without a big grin. They may have gotten torched, they were most likely trash-talked, but it was by Larry Legend!
Bird was in fact very athletic. He could jump and run with anyone. He was just extremely efficient. His theory was … why jump head above the rim and expend energy when I can just hop and make it and save that energy for later. Bird could literally run flat out the entire game without slowing down … that’s ATHLETICISM!!!
One reason that I find your reaction videos to be some of the most credible regarding Larry Byrd is that very early on these videos you picked up on something that almost every coach mentions at some point and that is how Byrd worked every second of every minute when he was on the court. Call him legend superhuman and all this other stuff is nice but the truth is that the talk about him being slow and not athletic the way others were and the rest of it he simply decided that he was gonna have to work harder to accomplish what others could do using physical gifts he did not have. Old guys like me respect young guys who see that a big part of success in most areas of life is simply working your tail off. And I say “simply“ but I don’t mean that it’s “easy“. It ain’t. Keep up the fine work trying to look at these past players without thinking that anything was easier then or that somehow they were getting away with something that you wouldn’t have in today’s game. Their performance needs to be examined and responded to entirely on their own and not necessarily in comparison to this or that contemporary player. You do a great job!
If you look at alot of the clips of the Hawks and Celtics, you do not see bird. Bird was suffering horribly from a hurt back. He would coat himself with bags of ice in the middle of the game on the sidelines for a little bit then go back in the game. Rinse and repeat
Larry was voted the best player in the league for about a ten year span in the 80s...This is a league with MJ and the Dream Team in it. During that same span he won MVP back to back to back...only other players to do that were Wilt Chamberland and Bill Russell. Larry and MJ are the 2 best players I have ever seen hands down...Hell MJ put Larry in his personal top 5 and said that Larry was the best SF to ever play the game. Kobe put Larry in his top 5 as well...Larry was different, he was a demon...Nothing against this new generation of player but they just arent built like that. You cant teach what Bird had... When it comes down to leadership and crunch time and making big shots there was only one "Larry Legend"
Larry was beat up in '88. most young ppl don't understand the defense that was played back then. the was no Euro step. the was no olay to the basket. Centers would beat you down you came into thier paint. you got hammered. there wasn't a 3 second defense rule. they they owned the paint and you got hurt. you got slammed goong inside.
LOVE the reaction!! :) ♥ “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
22 point is a single quarter... Thats fakking unreal. How do you even find _time_ to do that? Even if you were both on fire and lucky and hit every single shot, just finding 22 valid opportunities to shoot.
The lack of respect for the forefathers is astounding. Magic and Bird saved the NBA. MJ globalized it. Few players can never be replicated: MJ, Magic, LBJ, Bird. Some never should: Shawn Bradley, Tim Thomas.
1st. He wasn’t 6ft 9. He was 6ft 10 &1/4 according to draft measurements, he used that to his psych advantage. 2. Michael Jordan said it best if you don’t think he’s fast try staying with him when he’s dribbling up floor leading a break. At his height the leg turnover is less but each step covers more. Name another player at his height who could do those things .3. He could according to film and pre drFt measurements out jump one guy in the drFt and had faster pre draft measurement s and on film more athletic than one other guy drafted in the first round That other player that played stiff and was not fast but just knew how to pass over the top. Magic Johnson. But no one says Magicwas not athletic and couldn’t jump now was quick etc. Lastly. Fundamentally sound is great but - he was not laying against the best in the world. If notsthletic how does he consistently pass off the move so brilliantly and separate and score so easily against , say the hawks who were athletic and brought that attribute to defense but couldn’t stop him. More than one form of athletic coordination also.
You should make your picture smaller and the video we’re supposed to be watching bigger i.e. The picture/video of you is much bigger than the video you want us to watch. Your content was really good but I have no desire to look at you through the whole podcast
"not athletic..." Has to be the most ridiculous comments people say about Bird. If Bird was not athletic then everyone else was absolutely horrible players
Yall have been showen tons of support towards the Larry. Videos and now the question is, Who should we check out next?…
It's time to watch the building if basketball ... one could not be without the other ... you needed bird and magic to make the miracle ... break this up into a few videos... but worth the watch ruclips.net/video/axbIoHqFaa8/видео.htmlsi=OAJOIOXPFPhLIgTn
Tom Chambers ultimate mix tape. Sure the dunk one as well but the ultimate mix tape first.
Bobby Jones, Dr J, Stockton
Maravich
Bob Cousy, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, John Stockton, and definitely Pete Maravich, whose bio you'll definitely want to read first.
Spud
Nique was a beast, he doesn't get mentioned much today and he should
Agreed!
Agreed and he’s so humble.
He was a class act and played the game clean.
Agreed. I always liked him and that hawks team. It sounds weird…but I always liked the way the rim sounded when he dunked. It like make a loud cracking sound. Something about the way he pulled it down.
Truth!!

'70 without a doubt! 🤘@@swallman
😂😂😂
The 80's had the greatest basketball EVER!
Well said!
Probably the greatest 4th quarter in playoff history. Bird was playing with two injured achilles heels and bronchial pneumonia. You could see the pain on his face. Great reaction.
Larry isn’t out there talking about his greatness. We haven’t forgotten.
That is why today's fans don't understand how great Bird was. He was so clutch. He would hit ridiculous shots when he had to.
Thats because the people now have no clue how great Larry Legend was. He is the 🐐
I swear every player had to find out for themselves whether or not it was a good idea to poke the bear...Larry Bird! 😂😂😂. Some of the best games I've ever watched were between the Hawks and the Celtics! Nique was a heck of a BB player!

He's like a hunter. When he finds his prey, it's on. lol
Did you notice how many left handed shots he made in that greatest 4th quarter ever?
look at the players in the paint and the contact between the players. Different game back then.
Much better game. Better to watch to, actual competition. Last time I watched the NBA.
You Could See That Larry wasn't Feeling Good at In This Too. A Few Months Later He Ended Up Having To Have Surgery On Both Feet. I watched every single game on television but never got to see Bird in person. Most amazing player ever. Thanks for posting this video.
If you can watch the 4th quarter unedited, you can see just how clutch each shot was. The pressure was high on each possession. I highly recommend you seek that out somehow
This was against maybe the best athlete to ever play the game!! He would dominate todays NBA game.
Look at the players that are talking about Bird......These were the Best at that Time...Many are HOF today... I have never heard more Respect of any Player including Jordan, Kobi, Lebron.. ect.....From othert players Must be something to this.
He inspired me to play. Bird was amazing.
I used to be really into the Hawks. I followed them from Pistol Pete to Dominique Wilkins. The Celtics broke my heart.
Another Boston "GOAT"! As a Bostonian, I was fortunate to see many Celtics games with Jo Jo White, John Havlichek in the early - mid 70's through the Bird era. Remember too, those same achilles are why Bird missed all of the '89 season.
I thought I had seen EVERY Bird video, but I never saw this one. Thank you, sir.

Game 7 Celtics and Hawks was the best game I ever watched live. My two favorite players Nique and Larry.
Larry Bird, the best game I ever played, I should have quit right there. Its awesome!
This is why we love Larry Bird.
Larry Legend

Mr. Wilkins, a true class act. One of the greats and a great person as well. Mr. Bird, thanks for the memories brother.
It must be said that Dominique Wilkins was an absolute BEAST and a top-class individual. Great player, good man. I would take "Nique" over LeFake any day.
The reverence they have for each other today is awesome. While playing, they’d decapitate each and every player to win. 😂😂😂
He catches the ball he doesn't dribble the air out of it. The man just went work even when they knew what he was gonna do. He was that nice.
Love your t shirt I was saw that tour live! One of the greatest tours ever
My brother went to high school with Tree Rollins (Crisp County High, Cordele Ga)
Dude I seen him do that for years to everybody he played and we hated him for it. But looking back he was that guy. He catches the ball he doesn't dribble the air out of it. The man just went work even when they knew what he was gonna do. He was that nice.
Awesome Tshirt bro… I saw that tour… a Floyd fan since “Ummagumma” ❤❤❤
If you notice one thing, look at the smiles on their faces, they played against a guy who may someday be recognized as the GOAT, and they're delighted to be one who played against him and got trash talked!!! LMAO To a man, they all admired him.
Bird is a goat
THE BEST GAME EVER I REMEMBER IT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY THEM TWO WENT AT IT FOR THE LAST QUARTER LIKE MAD MEN
I've watched this game and they're not lying, that fourth quarter has to be one of the very best in NBA history. Became an nba fan during denvers playoff run last season and i enjoy 80-2000s basketball so much more. Thats real basketball
I was a hawks fan and I loathed Larry Bird and the Celtics. They beat the Hawks every damn year, but now I respect his game. He was unbelievable.
I love the respect all the NBA player give to Larry Legend.. Yes.. he would trash talk.. but he backed it upped. I was at game 4 of this series in Atlanta.
The Omni
Damn man.... perfect shirt
Larry is the Goat he reminds me of Ronaldinho Who allso absolutely toyed with Worldclass players
💯
The human highlight film was Wilkins nickname
Many people don't realize that many of these games in the old Boston Garden were over 100°....there was no AC. Talk about physical and mental toughness.
You will hear over and over how great he was. These are the best of the best telling you this, hall of famers too.. He is the GOAT!
Never underestimate Larry Bird , because he kicks butt
I have NEVER seen a player who was talking about his opportunity to play against Larry that didn't tell his story without a big grin. They may have gotten torched, they were most likely trash-talked, but it was by Larry Legend!
One of only three people ever to win three consecutive MVPs
Bird was in fact very athletic. He could jump and run with anyone. He was just extremely efficient. His theory was … why jump head above the rim and expend energy when I can just hop and make it and save that energy for later. They should've played Spud Webb in gm 7 he was killing is in that series
Young folks think players were not athletic 😅 Check out Wilkens. His nickname was the human highlight film

80s-early 2000s was the real deal in Basketball. Half the stars in today's game would just get bullied out
I miss the old days of basketball
they cant all be wrong he was a great player a team player all night long
I wonder how many assist DJ got in that game
If you look at alot of the clips of the Hawks and Celtics, you do not see bird. Bird was suffering horribly from a hurt back. He would coat himself with bags of ice in the middle of the game on the sidelines for a little bit then go back in the game. Rinse and repeat

Larry's name screaming through Catlyn Clark people say curry but if you really look that step back says LB not SC
Did you know how many left shots he made
why the hell is Dennis Scott even on tv???

LOVE the reaction!! :) ♥ “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
wilkins always off the board, bird nothing but net
22 point is a single quarter...
Thats fakking unreal.
How do you even find _time_ to do that?
Even if you were both on fire and lucky and hit every single shot, just finding 22 valid opportunities to shoot.
dominique is the man
The lack of respect for the forefathers is astounding.
Magic and Bird saved the NBA. MJ globalized it.
Few players can never be replicated: MJ, Magic, LBJ, Bird.
Some never should: Shawn Bradley, Tim Thomas.
Always thought Dominique Wilkinson was as good as Michael Jordan to me he was if you go back and watch his Games he was badass
Bird ha bronchitis at the time
why would i give you money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
You should make your picture smaller and the video we’re supposed to be watching bigger
i.e.
The picture/video of you is much bigger than the video you want us to watch.
Your content was really good but I have no desire to look at you through the whole podcast
"not athletic..."
Has to be the most ridiculous comments people say about Bird. If Bird was not athletic then everyone else was absolutely horrible players
Could care less about looking at a picture of you taking up a 3rd of the video
You a rookie dude
Is that the worst music in all of sports?!
too many commercials, thumbs down
Bird was not only the best all around player but the best clutch shooter of all time!
