- (ASSOCIATED PRESS) Facing a government shutdown deadline, the Senate rushed through final passage early Saturday of a bipartisan plan that would temporarily fund federal operations and disaster aid, dropping President-elect Donald Trump's demands for a debt limit increase into the new year.
House Speaker Mike Johnson had insisted Congress would “meet our obligations” and not allow federal operations to shutter ahead of the Christmas holiday season. But the day's outcome was uncertain after Trump doubled down on his insistence that a debt ceiling increase be included in any deal - if not, he said in an early morning post, let the closures “start now.”
The House approved Johnson's new bill overwhelmingly, 366-34. The Senate worked into the night to pass it, 85-11, just after the deadline. At midnight, the White House said it had ceased shutdown preparations.
“This is a good outcome for the country, ” Johnson said after the House vote, adding he had spoken with Trump and the president-elect “was certainly happy about this outcome, as well.”
President Joe Biden, who has played a less public role in the process throughout a turbulent week, was expected to sign the measure into law Saturday.
“There will be no government shutdown," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said.

Logical guess is someone meant “showdown” on the second one, but had a typo - pretty common when the two words you want to use are spelled or sound similarly.
There were some very notable twists and turns in this process, a shutdown was a real possibility, and they had to scramble to meet the deadline.
I have seen many more much worse video titles.
Isn’t this getting old for all Americans? Year after year, the threat of government shutdowns, or the reality of an actual shutdown. It’s political theater… Americans deserve better.

Their job is to legislate, primarily to establish a budget. If they are unable or unwilling to do the job that the taxpayers put them into Power for, then the taxpayers should remove them from Office anyway possible

In 1500 pages that this original bill that was shot down some of the things I mentioned was in there. Look up Vivek. @@conniedean3787 It comes out of my bank account, every month, federal tax payment that I owe since I'm an independent contractor, I have to wait till they tell me how much i owe, then payment plan to pay that (cause its always more than what i have saved), and then again the next year. I can't get a new (used) car right now because this monthly tax payment would interfere with a monthly car payment. I only make about 35,000 a year, to have to pay them monthly, just so they can send that money to overseas wars and nonsense.

He can't since the two go together. The Federal Reserve Act and the 16th amendment was a packaged deal. It is not Constitutional and was an act of Congress so technically Congress could get rid of it but they all benefit from it at our expense. It is a bullshit scheme that should be done away with since only gold or silver are money according to our Constitution.

The problem is, they're almost forced to vote yes for the 500+ page bills and they only have a few days to go through all of it. They put in things we wouldn't want to be funded. I say a new bill be passed. In that bill would entail that any bill over 200 pages must be proposed 2 weeks before voting starts to give people time to read it. Any less than 200 pages, the quickest a bill can be voted on is 1 week from when it is proposed. If the bill is 500+ pages, a minimum of 1 month before voting begins. Im sick and tired of bills being 500 pages and given to them a few days before voting starts. They have NO time to read all of that and its usually a bunch of fluff piled on top of hidden agendas.

We need to change the way bills are crammed together. One bill at a time set a limit for the number of bills in a year. Set a number of days per bills in a year. Set a limit to the number of days members of congress can be absent from congress. Stop them from being able to trade stocks until their are out of congress. Have their taxes and personal finances publicly viewable at any time by anyone.
If the government shuts down, their paychecks should be withheld until they can get their act together. They already do a piss poor job.

I don't have a problem helping a fellow Member of NATO, because they actually have something to offer to us in times of war, but Ukraine will literally have nothing to give us in return once that war is over.
