How much did you pay for adult birds, if I may ask? I ordered a bunch this year to raise to sell and eat. Years ago I did this and was getting $25/bird, this year i wanna try for 50-60 each…
I didn't know what a partridge was until today. My son sent me a video of a bird in his garden and didn't know what it was. I realise now that is was a chukar Partridge. From UK.
Thank you so much Dave, this is precisely what I was hoping for. I just got home from work and this video was waiting for me. I hope you will follow your current hatch and show us more. If my preliminary research convinces me to give Chukars a try, I think I will be interested in setting up my own breeding program. I'm interested in what is considered a proper hen to cock ratio and also when and how they are sexed. Keep the information coming, I think this may be an untapped RUclips niche which you are able to fill.
@@cassidyallengar Raising them is pretty much like raising jumbo quail, except incubation period is slightly longer and once out of the brooder box and in their cage they need a place to hide. But other than that all of the info out their on raising quail is the same. If you search for chukar on my website emergencyprepguy.com/?s=chukar you will find a few articles with really all the info you need.
Good teaching Dave, Nice video. I am not a farmer but I fancy the whole work you guys do. I wonder how you guys handle these birds when it rains a lot, thinking that ground level will be "too wet"
Can I ask what the point is to just let them go? I understand if you have a large hunting preserve and later hunt them for meat but why raise them just to release?
Thank you for the kind words. Yes. I would love to if I were in the country. As it is I am well over the animal number limit our city allows. I think I would be pushing my luck 😕 if I did.
My chukars were raised with ducks. Thy follow these ducks everywhere. They really have no Fear of me. They don't want me real close but I get within 5 feet of them. You just don't want to spook them. They'll hang around your property. If they get out They'll come back in the evening. Using a headlamp you can recatch them. Quail traps work to. There an awesum bird with a great song. Boy can they fly though.
I have a baby that’s been at my house for 2 weeks. I can’t find its home and it looks for a coop at night V and ends up sleeping next to the woodshed out in the open. Not sure what to do for her and more certain a predator will find her. Any tips?
The Roosters were not as loud as chicken Roosters but they were loud enough that I was worried the neighbors would be bothered. But only in the spring really. Here is a video of mine where you can hear how they sound ruclips.net/video/dheQ3a1GUg8/видео.html
VENT SEXING IN CHUKAR PARTRIDGES Sexes of chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar), and other species of partridge, are difficult to distinguish because the sexes often have similar plumage. A method for determining the sex of day-old chukars was described by Siopes and Wilson (1973) based on a modified vent-sexing technique commonly used for domestic poultry (Komatsu 1935). According to Siopes and Wilson, sex determination is based on the shape of genital protuberance (Fig. 16-4). In males, the protuberance is large and either cone or heart shaped. In females, the protuberance is absent or is small and flat. The technique of cloacal sexing involves placing the head or neck between the index and middle finger, and placing the thumb on the lower abdomen. Then, apply gentle pressure with the thumb of the holding hand to evert the cloaca and expel fecal matter. After the cloaca is slightly everted, the small genital protuberance on the neutral rim of the vent is examined under a bright light. Manipulation of this area with the thumb and index finger of the free hand provides an optimum view for accurately determining sex. This technique requires much practice before a high level of accuracy can be expected.
On the farm innovator incubator it's the 8 or so little holes on top that loose humidity. You can duct tape over them but you will need to remove one of the red caps to allow some air in
@@theemergencyprepguy yes, and HVAC systems can make it even worse. Both heating and cooling can dry the air. If I incubate in the house have to seal moisture in. In the garage I have problem keeping humidity up in the spring. In the summer I have problems keeping humidity down. So, I have worked the issue both ways.
I use a little giant. I roll up paper towel and put it in the water channels. Then I lay a layer of towel on them under the screen. With this setup I have no problem raising the humidity.
my chukars poop has been well watery and dark brown lately? I have an antibiotic on hand, also what should I do about probiotics that don't break the bank?
I have had birds that have had that for a day or two, but never for any extended length of time. For mine it seemed to be caused by stress or a leafy vegetable I had given them as a treat. If yours is having it more than a few days and you think he has some bacteria causing the issue, I have never had to deal with that. I would suggest Googling the topic. A lot of people have birds and I am sure there must be information out their on bird diarrhea and its possible causes. I have never had a reason to give my birds probiotics so I wouldn't know on that account either. Sorry I'm not much help.
@@mrlloydum Thanks. The neighbors were talking about how Chukars were in the neighborhood on their FB pages a few months ago, they were all excited. One of them finally got around to asking me if I let them go. lol.
Thanks, just saw and bought myself a pair at my local bird club, they caught my eye at how beautiful they looked. Very informative video!

So you can hear and see them.i wish everyone were like him they need to pass a law that every family has to raise and release some kindve wild game
Do they breed in the wild
interesting on the feed as we had opposite..the coturnix went thru way more feed than our chukars being a larger bird.
Huh. That's interesting. Mine didn’t. At the time all were adults and I was feeding them normal 16% layer chicken feed.
wonderful video sir

Do you see your birds you released ever? I have thirty chukkar. I’m gonna keep a small breeding flock and release a majority
I haven't seen them around in a few months
Keep on them man then incubate the eggs.
Will do.
How loud are they with hens only? How loud are roosters? I wonder what they sound like.

You have problem with internal worm 🪱 use albendozol tab.
Just a suggestion see if they will eat a small bit of sauerkraut with their food has 100 times more good bacteria than most probiotics
Where do you buy the fertilized eggs?
