Abloy Novel Picked & Gutted

- Abloy Novel euro cylinder picked and gutted. I found this lock hard and the picking method unreliable. I can't find any examples of previous attempts to copy though. Hopefully a better method can be developed to allow picking in better style.

Another high level lock picking channel. Well done. I have a small critique. Your voice is somewhat soft and breathy. You might want to try different mics that would give you a bit more depth and speak up a bit. Since you are moving around, rather than a fixed position mic, I suggest either a headworn mic (about $20 on eBay or Amazon) or a lavalier mic such as the Audio-Technica ATR3350xiS, about $24 on Amazon. Yes, there are folks who spend hundreds on microphones and get great studio sound, but you don't need to spend that.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback. You're absolutely right of course, but to be honest I'm not really aiming for quality production, more just trying to share what I've done. There's loads of other things I could do better too, but I'm fitting in filming these between work at lunch time or in half an hour while the kids are getting ready for bed, so I can't really be bothered trying to make better videos. Sorry.

Nice pick design! I especially liked your solution with epoxy enclosed in a bigger pipe which should provide all the strength that tool needs. How did you create that bend in the piano wire to create the tip? Has the picking tip cracked often in practice?
Thanks! It was my second go at it, first was less good.
To bend the wire I just clamped the end in a vise, bent it over by hand and hit it with a hammer to get a nice right angle. Tip has never cracked. Good stuff that wire.
@@crispix Thanks, nice to know. I was expecting that you have to heat it to avoid cracking. And if you had to heat it, the hardening of piano wire would be gone.

It's a shame that Abloy intentionally removed the DBS notches from the disks for this one. I guess it was done purely for market segmentation because the total cost to manufacture this lock would have been exactly the same and the picking resistance would have been even higher.
Yeah. Seems to me the discs are identical or almost identical to the DL Pro. I think it is a minimum possible upgrade to the excellent Pro design, rather than a strong attempt to bring anything extra. I think you could buy Novel as extras to an existing inventory of Pro and use Novel keys on them all.
@@crispix Yeah, as far as I know, Novel is the minimum change to get new patents. However, including DBS, too, would have made the locks safer and it would literally cost nothing for Abloy.

@@karamelkavertu2816 the basic tool is from RWB custom picks (rwbcnc@gmail.com). This comes with standard front tension tips, so if you want to pick a Novel you'll need to make new tips like I have here
