I love that the first "attraction" they mention are outlet stores. And they're way out at the edge of town. Sums up Barstow perfectly.
Great town! Passed through there 20 years ago and had my vehicle and trailer stolen & set on fire. How can you beat that hospitality? Then your cops tried to blame me for it, even after they caught the meth heads who stole it! Thumbs up!
Mo Cegan Cops in Trailertrash areas are usually the most dickheadish of them all.
That is life these days, dude, it's sad but it just reflects how shitty life in the modern times really is...the desert still really is a beautiful place. The eighties was the best decade...after that, it all went to crap.
@@desertrose1226 If that happened 1998 as he said, it was closer to the 80s than it is to today.
@@desertrose1226 ''That is life these days'' not where I live, here we never have even something remotely crappy happen like the degeneracy that's happening in places like Barstow. Also that's a defeatist mindset, call it out and stand for something better or it'll just get worse if you tolerate that crap.
The methhead was probably a barstow cop
We were just an hour outta Barstow , when the drugs began to take hold 😆
I was stuck living there for half of my junior year and my senior year of high school. My mom and dad are still there. Graduated from BHS in '74 when they were still the Riffians. I hated the desert and still do. I got out of there as soon as I could! The only thing I liked was Rainbow Basin. I am glad that they finally restored the old railroad station. It's a beautiful old building but hell, you can't ever get inside of it!
Ha, 03! Go Aztecs!
Years ago, I was a resident of Barstow. My mother used to work in the radio station just above the traincar McDonald's when a young girl and one male were shot and killed in a botched robbery attempt. An under cover police officer was there with his family when the adult male walked in brandishing a weapon and forced his way in behind the counter demanding McDonald's employees to open the main safe, the police officer saved lives by quietly sneaking innocent patrons out of harms way. He then shot the suspect, as the suspect reappeared and opened fire on the police officer killing the young girl. The poor girl didn't even stand a chance because all the commotion sent her into rapid panic mode as one relative tried desperately to restrain her to the ground, however she unfortunately quickly broke free of the grip and stood up and that's when she caught a bullet straight to the head. All this happened right behind the police officer. It was such an extremely heartbreakingly tragic story that made major headlines all across the country. I cannot recall exactly, but I want to say this happened approximately about late 90's/early 2000's. ...I never did like that building at ALL, such a very creepy place! Even prior to that incident occuring, that entire structure seemed to have it's very own dark energy about it. As a teenager, I constantly had extremely dark nightmares about the place for years long before the shooting. And the nightmares usually involved shadow figures of some sort chasing me all throughout the building.
I lived there in1982my husband was stationed at fort Irwin,I liked it,met a nice young lady that showed us around,GOD BLESS YOU MARYANN KAYLOR!
i heard they are nice people here and every one knows each other.i met the same mugger twice.
Cool
the down votes are by us Barstownians who know the truth.
OtakuWarlord2 hehehe 😂😂😂
What goes on there
@@edgarsanchez1869 drugs, poverty, a main strert with everything closed, weeds, both thr srug and the plant kind, gangs, an apaethic police force and a hospital with not even a chapel and which gets ouchie if ypu bitch why thry dont have one.
@Trash Man Man well I do have one fedora. Sadly my sword was sold years ago
So sad,I wanted to go back but I'm a little scared !
You forgot to highlight that it's the METH capitol of Cali...
Smh...
@@marvinhagler4721 WTF! That's not my comment. Damn spoofers.
I remember when I was traveling to LA and I found myself at the local denny's at 3 am it felt refreshing seeing all the junkies and equally weird people prancing around in their own world.
You want entertainment with your 3AM meal at Denny's they have it!!
15 and 58 meet here, that is why it has any relevance. The very first Del Taco comes from Barstow and it is made with fresh ingredients I guess compared to the other Del Tacos.
I saw 2 girl bums fight outside of that mc donalds
@Trash Man Man damn that was a hot one LMAO
Been there several times over last 60 years and thought I had seen most, yes, but several gold nuggets going back for. If you like the desert thing, this broad area will not disappoint, but cannot do in a day or two, TYVM.
Barstow . Get in get what you need then get the fuck out! Barstow del taco is a hidden gem . Try it out yourself
you say this is the heart of the mojave, but strangely this town was never
mentioned in fallout new vegas, not even as side quest.
navigator of none wow
Well it’s in California. Pretty sure you are blocked off from going there at that one NCR outpost.
It was in fallout 1, it's the hub.
An the military supply center at one time it was the biggest in the world but I guess that's in yermo ? Anyway alot of hard working people in Barstow to . When we lived there we had the best neighbors she always made us tortillas she was very generous . But that's been 50+ years ago . A lot of kind decent folks in Barstow .
I got stranded in Barstow for three fucking months. I was homeless and staying at the desert Mana. I worked doing the new arrivals intake. For some reason I got pulled into their politics. The city council had a meeting. Everyone seemed to be at odds with each other. I wanted to leave the room. I was hoping there wasn't going to be a fight. Anyway, I got lots of stories to tell from dropping off of highway 66
Wow, sounds really interesting tbh I really would love to know much more about desert life...
Sounds like an interesting story
I just watched 2 videos that ranked Barstow as one of California's 10 worst towns. Now I see this..🤔 Maybe I was hallucinating.
No one has showed the real Barstow 😂
Hey nerd:Welcome to barstow, where there's NOTHIN to do...
"Man, I'm not going back to Barstow" - Fast and Furious 2
When I was 17 in 1973 a friend and I went cross country in our VW bus from NYC to LA. We broke down outside of Amboy.
Got towed back to Amboy where the mechanic at Roy's Garage hooked us up so that we could get to Barstow, which had an official VW repair shop. I remember thinking that we had entered the TV show, Green Acres, with funny names for small towns: Amboy, Ludlow, Barstow... Where's Pixley???
But, we were really surprised that Barstow was a big town and very happy to get our VW bus repaired.
I am now near 70 and have always had a fond memory for Barstow...
Funny thing is that I have been back to Amboy twice but never passed through Barstow again..
My identity was stolen by someone in Barstow in 2015. I live in Norcal. I'm still fighting this shit.
Barstow is ranked as one of the most dangerous towns to visit with a crime rate that is like 10 times the national average.
The rock shop and the salad bar st the pizza place are good.
Did the Chili Bowl get tore down?
BEAUTIFUL VIEWS.
Don't fall for the hype.
... No good paying jobs w/benefits in Barstow (just minimum wage w/no benefits). No 24 hour public transportation to depend on (locals lose jobs b/c they can't work the evening & night shifts due to transportation). More then half the town depends on Welfare. The local police don't arrest physically abusive boyfriend/husband (because they "live in the same house/apartment" as the victim). Drug addicts everywhere. Only good elementary schools are Montara, Henderson & HWY 58/Skyline area. Absolutely nothing to do in Barstow, except play video games at home & watch cable TV. I lived there for a long time & left in 96.
Is Barstow the same as Amboy ? Is Amboy full of druggies as well?
RANDY JUDAH TALK 🎼❤️
All the negative comments.
My god there's so much history here.
I love my town! ❤❤❤
In 1968/69 my husband was stationed at ft Irwin ‘ I at age 18 worked at the col sanders ( kfc) I loved the place - the people ( I worked with a Trixie & Derrick for Andy & Cathy Pugh) you know them? I drove that bridge & scary road every day & never had or heard of any crime in the town. With more people there’s more crime. I’d go back if possible but now stuck in Texas… love your town!
I used to live in Barstow for 11 years I really like Barstow but there is a lot of crime bad cops I miss my good friends Sometime I stop bye I’m looking for Bill Hernandez
Barstow Ludlow Blythe Needles furnace creek ide like to see and historical Route 66

I lived with my cousin in barstow back in 2011 I didn't see gangs or murder.
in 2011. This was recent. People were getting shot recently. And gangs have always been around barstow. Ive lived there since 2008
Where did they hang at cause. I lived in a house by main street I didn't see them. East freddick had them.
oh thats probably why you didnt see them xD they were all over by riverside and east fredrick, and by zion which were all roads i lived on lol
i got YOU beat, mate. I've lived here all my gawd damned life. all 41 yrs.
The crime rate is insane, but I suppose that's what keeps homes affordable, especially for California.
Before the INVASION...Barstow used to be a GREAT place to Live.

OtakuWarlord2 everywhere is shit now...social fucking media has ruined it, along with crap rappers and stupid long haired meth head kids.
Ahh my hometown
Hey! I have stopped by Barstow many many times when I travel between Los Angeles and Las Vegas by car. Currently, there is a stone carbin located in Coolgardie for sale on eBay auction and I am asking myself if I should go for it or not. What do you think?
Flew over Barstow once, oxygen masks deployed from all the fentanyl in the air over that area.
I love this part of the US! One day i would love to drive the typical roads, eat a nice burger in the towns and drive a big V8! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You’d legit die never come here
Lol what? Barstow sucks
I was born here and I still live here
+Alex Olivares is that good?
sadly so do i
OtakuWarlord2 do you still do
Comic Geek yes
Alex Olivares im about to move there in couple of weeks can you give me little info about this town
My last name is Barstow!!!
My home town , grew up there then the L.A. trash moving up there , Meth heads and typical bullshit drove me away … I remember it when it was a good little town though , I lived on Camarillo ave heading up to Skyline north , which looks nothing compared to what it used to be … open desert that’s now closed off to any kind of traffic … bloody shame
home of unlawful arrests
Hey I live here
Worst place I've ever lived and I use to live in Anaheim. At least you could get a lady of the night on Beach Blvd.
Isn't there nothing but druggies there
It's the USA equivalent of Runcorn in the UK by the sounds of it...
Barstow needs to build more affordable housing and its population will explode! It’s a great town 👍🏻
I think Barstow needs jobs first. The city doesn't need to import more welfare cases and tweakers.
I live here
We were somewhere in Barstow… in the middle of the desert… when the drugs.. began to take hold…
Gate way to hell
I lived in Lucerne valley I hated it boring
its close to Big Bear at least....
