I think there was another game in which Von Hayes hit two home runs in the first inning, the second of them a grand slam. IIRC, that game was also against the Mets, though not against Doc Gooden.
@@mysticakhenaton1701 Not quite at his best, as Gooden pitched his Cy Young season the year before. Doc was still pretty good in 1986, though, with a sub-3 ERA.

It looks as if Hayes even needed to brush the umpire aside to run to the ball. "Hey, Ump, get outta my way!"
Anytime you go 4-4 against Dwight Gooden, you know you're having a good day at bat.

Actually 3 for 3 off Doc as his 4th hit was off a reliever.
