Thanks so much Ben. Can never get enough Bob D. He was the first circuit speaker I heard when I got sober 3 years ago.

We will never know but Bill had his white light experience while under the influence of the belladonna treatment coupled with sedatives probably higher than a kite. With that said we are blessed Bill W was born and found Dr Bob I love AA

Bob D: This will not be academic, it will be experiential.
Also Bob D: continues to explain in an academic way how Bill W got a spiritual experience.

Look I love Bob. His info is great but I've got issues with this because on the one hand he talks about how people gave him rides to meetings and helped him out and all this stuff, yeah when he's talking about helping others it's about not putting our work on a service plane. I'm really struggling with not knowing how to help somebody who is a sponsee but I don't want to take her to meetings all the time because the elders in my city say they should make it to a meeting and do the crawl basically otherwise I am carrying the alcoholic and not the message and they will clammor for this or that. Sadly I don't know how to help. I don't want them putting their reliance on me. But I don't want to not help either. She says that she can't get rides from phone list

Was anyone from AA there for you in the beginning?
Did you need a lot of help in the beginning?
Is your sponsee constantly reaching out for help? Good

Knowledge is not power? That is a scary introduction. I NEVER had a sponsor. I'm 22 years sober and I've had a wonderful recovery (after I sought outside professional counseling). I had to get that knowledge necessary to understand early childhood trauma that CAUSED my shitty self esteem and drinking problem. Sponsorship feeds the ego, in my opinion.

I see it different. I used to think that by reading several AA books and having those books in my shelf, that’s all I needed to stay sober. I though that having the “knowledge” of the root of my alcoholism was enough. I thought I could sponsor myself. LOL!!! I’m fortunate to have found a sponsor who helped me the rest of the way.
Yes, therapy, counseling, and meds have helped me as well. I needed all the help I could get.

Sponsorship saves lives man, I needed someone to show me how to work the steps. And it helped them too. Sponsorship is a beautiful thing. And Knowledge alone could never keep me sober… I needed a spiritual experience.

To be fair you just said your 22 years sober. That’s older than me haha. I probably know nothing. My ego is always out to get me. i alway think I know best. Hey I guess that’s why I need a sponsor though, my thinking is off key. i react abnormally to sobriety, my life somehow gets worse. Thank God for AA and the 12 steps.

I believe only a nonalcoholic can stay sober without the steps and a conscious contact with a Higher Power - at all, much less 22 years. Bob addresses the nonalcoholic and qualifying beautifully. ❤
