Hearing Lily's "hot take" relating to Beauty and the Beast really makes me want to bang my head against the keyboard (for clarification, the film is my older sister's favorite Disney movie ever since it came out when she was three years old- she not only relates so much to Belle, but she's also had stuff based off of the film, knows the songs and dialogue by heart, and even got to meet the original voice actress of Belle, Paige O'Hara. So I'm willing to defend the movie for my older sister).
Lily calling the relationship between Belle and the Beast "abusive" is a tell that she didn't even watch the movie- Belle was able to hold her ground when Beast tried demanding her to go to dinner with her, the Beast showed sympathy when he saw her heartbroken about having taken her father out of the castle, and the Beast *not once* actually laying a hand on Belle (or his servants) and instead lashing out on inanimate objects. Someone pointed out that when the Beast was furious, Belle didn't stay around and booked it out of the castle. It was not until the Beast saved Belle from the wolves and Belle helping him back to the castle as well as helping him with his injuries that they start seeing eye to eye and form a relationship. And by the end, their mutual love is the one to help break the spell on the Beast, his servants, and his environment.
In fact, do you wanna know who would have been *VERY* abusive towards Belle had she been in a relationship with this character and Lily conveniently didn't bring up once? GASTON. For all the squawking about how Belle and Beast have an "abusive" relationship, Gaston is NEVER brought into the equation because- and the movie even makes a point of showing this- he doesn't treat Belle like a person but rather as an object that he wants, not even taking her feelings into consideration. And that's not even going into the Broadway musical adaptation, where Gaston came *very close* to physically assaulting Belle before stopping himself because it would look bad on his reputation in the village.

Big part of the Hays Code that Jameson Somersault just casually glosses over:
Yeah one of the topics censored according to the Hays Code is “sexual perversion” ie homosexuality in any form, but a huge REALLY BAD ban was for “miscegenation” or interracial intimacy. Yeah. Jamesy just glosses over how the Hays Code wasn’t only hurtful towards us gays, but it’s all around conservatism and especially vicious to nonwhite communities.
EDIT: Oh wow! Even as early as 2017, James is still mistaking the public view of Jeffrey Dahmer as an evil gay and proof of our sinful nature. NO, homophobes initially LOVED Dahmer because they saw him as a killer of gay men! It took a while for the public to know that Dahmer was himself gay

Lars and Sadie’s age from STEVEN UNIVERSE are very ambiguous and debatable within the show and fandom, but so far they are teenagers in the OG and adults in the Movie and Future. So Lily is making a baseless claim just to make STEVEN UNIVERSE worse by comparison.

Same. Superman's struggles are more related to the struggles of being human. The interesting bits of Superman isn't when he's using his mighty powers to vanquish evil, it's when he's struggling with his own humanity, and his own significance, and trying to do the right thing.
Batman is relatable because he's a basement dwelling furry with depression and a sleeping disorder.

Uh.... the story of Moses is VERY MUCH in the Bible. I... don't understand how you don't know that? Like, I don't expect people to be able to recite this story, but I would expect most in the Western world to know that the story of Moses is IN the Bible. It's one of the most well known parts of the Old Testament, specifically The Book of Exodus. This story is part of the Torah too because the Old Testament and the Torah have a lot in common, but it's definitely a Christian story as well. Calling it a "Bible Movie" is..... probably the least crazy thing she's said because a lot of people would recognize it from the Bible and refer to it as such. (And she definitely meant that as an insult the way she said it.)

yeah I know my dude. I was raised a fundamentalist Christian, went to Bible camp, and was even looking into mission programs before I deconstructed and eventually became an atheist.
But the creators of Prince of Egypt were Jewish and it was written from a Jewish perspective not a Christian one. The Exodus of Egypt is a *Jewish story* that was then made a part of the Bible's first testament. If this was a movie written and created by Christians I would call it a Bible story. But it's not. It was made by (and stars) Jewish people.
