Love the song love the film, but just have to say, withnail is not the charmless man described by daman albarn. He does not try to please at all, he is completely self destructive. The ending of the film is deeply sad and those feelings of sadness come from feeling sorry for withnail which means despite how much of narcissistic dick head he is we were all rooting for him all along. Deep down his character is a good person.
