One of my favorite things is to not look at the answers and guess along with the panel. If you listen to Dorothy’s questions to the second person, and listen to the audience’s reaction, just imagine that his line is “dildo manufacturer”. I’ve yet to find out what the actual line is but if is... I want to also point out that Bennett has disqualified himself from guessing Frank Sinatra on the basis that his wife couldn’t keep it quiet, but sometimes it’s almost uncanny how fast he can figure out celebrities 🤔
What a shame Arlene was trapped in the airport -- she would have had a field day with a handsome young man who designs maternity clothes! Right up her wickedly funny alley.
Tall Story was a comedy where a college co-ed (Fonda) pursues her school's star basketball player (Perkins) for romance and marriage. It was released in 1960.
CommanderOfTheSun Whistling is ill mannered, mostly unpleasant and ,sorry to bring this up, sexist. And it was those exact same things in „the good old days“.
Today, the Census Bureau takes surveys constantly, besides the decennial head count. They do consumer, housing, health care and education surveys among many others. They also do population updates with selective samples, between the all-inclusive 10-year count.
Wow, we grew up eating Kelloggs cereals and now we're all messed up. The sugars and other ingredients in all those very tasty cereals were not healthy like they were promoted.
How do these panelists ask just 3 or 4 questions and figure out immediately what the mystery guest does? Was there ever a Quiz Show Scandal around this show? How did Bennett Cerf nail it so fast without a hitch? I'm suspicious!
The fact that Cerf nailed Fonda's identity so fast leads me to believe the opposite. If he secretly knew her identity ahead of time, I suspect he would have asked a few more questions and milked it a little more, before taking a guess. Note that the panel never received any extra compensation for correct answers. Also note that if the panel continuously guessed the mystery challenger's identity too early, like this time, the entire show just wouldn't be entertaining to watch. It's more fun to watch them struggle... at least for awhile. The quiz show scandals occurred when prize money was involved, usually on game show formats where questions were asked. It was to "improve ratings." This all occurred during the late 1950s. However, by 1960 is was already a federal crime to fix a game show. This broadcast was televised in April of 1960. Thus, I don't think he knew her identity ahead of time.
Whoops. Your math is off. Fonda was born 12/21/1937. Which means she wouldn't turn 23 until December of 1960. Yes, this clip was indeed from April 3, 1960. Thus, Fonda was just 22 years old at that time. (22.28 years old to be exact.)
It looks like she mouthed the word shit. If so, maybe she did it because she thought they were getting close to guessing her identity. After Cerf DOES guess her identity a moment or two later, you can hear her ask, "How did they get that?" I suspect she thought she wouldn't get identified.
Until Pvt. Manning is given a full pardon and ceases to be harassed by the US Government, no, it's not time to let go of the fact that Jane Fonda gave aid and comfort to an enemy of the United States - and suffered no legal punishment for it!
I watched a documentary that POWs tried to slip S.O.S. notes to her and she gave the notes to the enemy causing torture and even death for the POWs. That is a traitor, pure and simple.
It didn't start with him - it was a tradition in the Daly family to name all male babies John. John had a brother, father, grandfather, four sons, at least one nephew, and at least one grandson named John, plus probably a host of other relatives.
Whether it was 45 years ago or 45 months ago or 45 days ago or 45 minutes ago, as far as I know, Jane Fonda has NEVER apologized for her ILLEGAL trip to Communist North Viet Nam - or for the lies which she parroted then or for the horrible atrocities inflicted on American POWs as a direct consequence of HER words and HER actions. And I will never forget that - nor will I forgive until she admits that what she did and said was wrong and she apologizes - directly and forthrightly and honestly.
She has apologized for certain actions but held true to her belief that her trip was intended to expose how the US government was lying to its citizens and to help end the war. Many of the stories about her were apocryphal and the horrible atrocities attributed to her actions have been discounted by the soldiers who were supposed to have experienced those atrocities.
PS And we know one thing for sure: absolutely nothing has happened as direct consequence of the stand she took. It is utmost foolish to ascribe the torturing of POW to Jane Fonda!
I think it was pretty apparent that Bennett and Daly weren't real fond of each other but the comment about getting the children in and locking their doors was asinine.
John Daly and Bennett Cerf were very close friends - John delivered the eulogy at Bennett's funeral, and Bennett attended John's son's wedding, etc. On several occasions during WML's run, one or the other would comment on letters they'd received about their teasing each other, and assure the viewers that they were really great friends who just teased each other as guys sometimes do to show their admiration for each other.
Hate Jane all you want, but unless you think US involvement in the Viet Nam War civil war was a good idea, please hate more those who maintained US troops long after anyone with an IQ above room temperature knew we were sacrificing for absolutely no good reason. After 1964 everyone but McNamara’s Morons recognized US involvement was not just wasted but counterproductive.
She was a very good actress and generally okay until she moved to France and the leftists got to her. Her father Henry Fonda, a WW2 hero, really never forgave her for what she did in Vietnam.
Thanks for the video. Dorothy looked great during this show.
Yes, she did!

I remember seeing Polly more on tv shows later when she was much older. She was still beautiful didn't age much at all.
What a shame Arlene was trapped in the airport -- she would have had a field day with a handsome young man who designs maternity clothes! Right up her wickedly funny alley.
One of my favorite actresses, as well as persons.

Same year he starred in Psycho of course.
"based on those whistles, unless the country has changed... you're a girl?" Ahhh the good ol' days...

"Tall Story", was Jane Fondas first movie.....her debut if you will.....
Where is Jane Fonda NOW?
She appeared in the show 64 years ago
She is still working! She looks gorgeous in her 80's!🌹
damn she was really gorgeous! Cute face and beautiful eyes.
My favorite actress & one of my favorite movies

Bennet had a higher WAR (wins above replacement) than any pro athlete!
They are so gentlemanly!
,,,,ty for posting this ,and things like it ,,,
there is somebody even shorter than mister martin ,,the butler!!!!
I'm not Fonda Hanoi Jane, either - but I DO like WHAT'S MY LINE a lot!!!!!

Let it go- or write it at least in the correct order.
I love Jane Fonda. One of the best actresses we've ever had.
Meryl Streep is also a good actor.
Always work hard.
"Is it made of vegetable rather than minerable?"
it’s woman definitely had an attitude…her body language and facial expressions say a lot about her.
Is it just me, or did Dorothy seem sincerely upset that someone (her husband) gave the Census taker her information?
The audience is Fonda Jane.
Jane was a pretty gal!
What year is this? Fonda looks about 18. Was she already in the public eye by then? Maybe because of her father?
It aired April 3, 1960. She was 22 years old.
My guess is that the fellow's name is pronounced "Paw-DEE-yah," like our current California senator.
Mr. Fenn looks like a seedy version of Jack L. Warner
Is it a sanitary pad?
She has lovely hand writing.

Show aired April 3, 1960. Ms. Fonda would have been 23 (& 8 mos.+)

Anybody got any ideas about what Jane Fonda says to Mr Daly at 15:07? Looks like part of it might have ended up on the cutting room floor.
It looks like she mouthed the word shit. If so, maybe she did it because she thought they were getting close to guessing her identity.
After Cerf DOES guess her identity a moment or two later, you can hear her ask, "How did they get that?" I suspect she thought she wouldn't get identified.
It was almost 45 years ago, and she has since apologized for some of her more regrettable behavior. Probably time to let it go.
Until Pvt. Manning is given a full pardon and ceases to be harassed by the US Government, no, it's not time to let go of the fact that Jane Fonda gave aid and comfort to an enemy of the United States - and suffered no legal punishment for it!
Many Vietnam soldiers have thanked her for her antiwar efforts. They knew they were pawns in a political war. She is not evil.
I watched a documentary that POWs tried to slip S.O.S. notes to her and she gave the notes to the enemy causing torture and even death for the POWs. That is a traitor, pure and simple.

Nonsense.
I have just learnt the most unusual fact. John Daly had 4 sons by 2 marriages and they were all named John ..
So he referred to each of them by their middle name. I think George Foreman did that with his sons.
It didn't start with him - it was a tradition in the Daly family to name all male babies John. John had a brother, father, grandfather, four sons, at least one nephew, and at least one grandson named John, plus probably a host of other relatives.
Lots of Ego in action!
Hi, my name is Larry, & this is my brother Daryl, & my other brother, Daryl.
Polly was a beautiful woman.
I can see why the census taker is not married. Looked initially snooty to me.

Yes lying into war for profit o politics is fatal for so many.@@RR-mp7hw

There you go again....
PS
And we know one thing for sure: absolutely nothing has happened as direct consequence of the stand she took. It is utmost foolish to ascribe the torturing of POW to Jane Fonda!
I choose not to judge, or I shall be thus be judged.
I skipped the mystery guest since she is a traitor to our country.
Do the contestants win money here or are the cards just for looks?
They win the money.
Geezus LOW PAY for Librarians!!! 1960!! Nothing has changed!! WOW Bennet Serf would be crucified by Trump for saying that!!
I think it was pretty apparent that Bennett and Daly weren't real fond of each other but the comment about getting the children in and locking their doors was asinine.
I think people thought the banter was amusing, I did. The show was quite a success, God bless.
Hanoi Jane Fonda. One of the most hated women in America.
@violamateo And comrade Jane the commie bitch.......... increased the body count of worthy men killed by the enemy of all legitimate humanity.
Sour Kraut
Well, it doesn’t take much for women to be hated in America.
Sour Kraut
PS
And I am reporting your antisemitic comment.
@@Celisar1 Oh me oh my...... LOL Raise your middle finger for me and report that too.

Not sure I buy that story.
She was right about a lot of it.
Jane became a movie icon in her own right, and rightly so.
