The Symfonisk sounded more open with better mid/high frequency response as well as more balanced bass. I am very curious to test this in person. Shocked the Symfonisk was my preferred model based on your samples. Thanks for the video!
This is truly a cool collab between IKEA and SONOS! It’s cool how these products actually are the entry level SONOS speakers and ultimately give away the IKEA dual functionality for FREE, with the same price point of these 2 products and the shelf speakers £99 lowest SONOS Speaker price point. And that all Symfonisk speakers are FULL SONOS speakers.
The One’s sound awesome as a stereo pair with some separation between them. I feel like spacing two of these frames apart could look a bit odd…like, why do I have two framed pictures of the same thing on my walls? I like this as an option, wish there were more variations to the artwork.
I think it's such a great speaker. In our home, it hangs on the wall at the separation between the living room and the dining room, which is also attached to the kitchen. Wonderful sound. Especially if you have a nice New York jazz playlist on during dinner. What I didn't like in the beginning was the lack of bass and treble. But luckily I found out that you can easily adjust that in the SONOS app if you press the volume while playing a song. After I set the bass to +10 and the treble to +5, I was a big fan. What a beautiful piece. And the guests don't even know where the sound is coming from 😄🤙🏽
Thank you for making a video of this. When I initially saw the images of this product on another site, I assumed this was an interactive e-ink screen where the image could change subtly with the sound. But I'm disappointed that this is a static image. Even though, the print is interchangeable, it would have been much cooler with an e-ink display.
I just bought a white one. Sound quality is OK for a background music, Sonos integration is working well although Sonos does not offer my streaming service of my choice (Tidal). However I am very disappointed how cheap white (grey) fabric looks. If Ikea does not speed up with new designs I am going to return it.
A picture frame that you cannot actually put a picture in, and you don't gain any significant sound advantage even though it is much larger than the One. Unless you love the "art" it seems like a pretty bad compromise? It would have been much more interesting if they had pushed the price up a bit and added more or bigger woofers.
I’m hoping (like he mentioned) someone will figure out there’s a market for tasteful Symfonisk fronts. The ones you can buy from IKEA are so ugly they make me gag. Thank you for the review. But you should measure them differently. The tabletop is not ideal and reflects the sound. Also the Symfonisk speaker is made to wall mount so will sound the best mounted to a wall.

I purchased one of these back in Nov and the sound quality is solid BUT it not having Bluetooth to where I can't play RUclips or other media from my phone is a bit of a hassle. I hope in the near future they come out with a version that features Bluetooth.
This seems nice, but with Sonos disabling older speaker because they don't fit their new eco-system of speakers, it doesn't bode well for product longevity.

They can be daisy chained so one feeds power to the other. But they can also be paired to create a left and right stereo pair in the app, and also added as 5.1 speakers to the Playbar, Beam, ARC, and Sub.

Considering the frame speaker was meant to be hung against the wall - do you think playing it free-standing during the audio testing caused any sound degradation?
I like the idea of the picture frame speaker, but for me the trailing mains lead really spoils the look. I don’t want to channel the walls and have sockets installed behind the speaker, so for me it’s a no at this time.

Hi there, thanks for watching! We will look to make a video of the Frames as surrounds if we have enough demand for it. I would tend to say the Ones and Frames offer a similar performance as surrounds as the sound is quite ambient anyway so it would depend mainly on whether you prefer the idea of Frames as surrounds aesthetically. Do they (or will they) support anything further like 7.2.4.? If so please can you tell me what I need to bye? Big fan of your channel thanks to all of you for a great job!
Hi Toby, while it is possible to use them as rears in a Dolby Atmos set up, I wouldn't recommend putting them on the ceiling, only because of how peculiar they might look and it might wear on you over time. Currently, Sonos support a maximum of 5.2.2 and we don't have any idea of Sonos roadmap but we'd hope that this will get expanded in the future. Thanks for watching!
Could you possibly do a more intensive sound comparison? In this test the Ikea sounds much more prominent in the highs but it’s missing a lot on the vocals. The One sounds warmer and realistic. I have the Symfonisk picture frame and I agree with your impression. However, once the speaker is mounted on the wall, my non-audiophile ears feel the bass improves significantly. Still doesn’t match Sonos One but very decent.
Sonos/IKEA just need to add a rechargeable battery option for +12 hrs of play. I would be fine re-charging 2-3 times a month overnight to drop the cord.
This is actually a really good idea, imagine they had a MagSafe like charger that looks like an extension card that magnetically snaps in. Leave it plugged in full time or have the option to drop the cord
From what I can discern, they need to be on or close to the wall to get anything resembling decent base response. The One sounds much more robust without even trying.

@@smarthomesounds you’re incredibly great to correct my misconception. We don’t have the picture speakers yet in Oz, so I haven’t been able to trial them. I am getting lag when I play RUclips music from M1 Mac thru Airplay. Lag in the sense it starts sounding after 15-20 sec I start hitting the play button. How to fix this issue?
So, if I have a Sonos amp with a pair of floor standing speakers used for tv/cinema sound… could a pair of frames be used for surround using the Sonos app?
unfortunately you would need a sonos soundbar. these only work as music speakers or surround sound speakers. the sonos ray is good and cheap at the same time and would let you use these as surrounds. plus it is a good center channel for rounding the setup out
I really like the idea of the Symfonisk frame, but I own one of the Symfonisk shelves and it’s software is utter garbage and has regular drops despite having put my WiFi on the channels the troubleshooting requires and multiple contacts with the CS from Sonos telling me that it’s probably too far from the router (less than 5 meters away; one wall in the middle)… has anyone bought one of these frames and actually had it work in a “real life” setting?
I have two symfonisk shelf speakers. I have them in the window, second flor apartment, 15-20 other wifi’s showing up, route 3-4 meters away. No problem 😌 Sorry! 🤷♂️
The sound is almost the same as the One. So no issues in using them as surrounds. You can also go for the symfonisk bookshelfs, as they also sound pretty similar. For a pair of surrounds you would save 150$. You can also wall mount them or put them on a stand if you need to.

@@smarthomesounds you’re incredibly great to correct my misconception. We don’t have the picture speakers yet in Oz, so I haven’t been able to trial them. One thing I was wondering about is, has anyone tried them in a two plus two layout to see if it creates a greater presence, if you see what I mean? I’m still getting my head around non-near field speakers, so I hope that didn’t so completely stupid, we’re in a massive lockdown in Sydney and there is no way at all to get any kind of empirical evidence around any of my lunatic ideas, so I really appreciate the channel and your information sharing. Fantastic work, without a doubt.
Thanks for the review mate more so as I did not know it existed. I like both IKEA and Sonos so we’ll do to them for making this item. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 However, without having Bluetooth I think they will never join my technologically collection… Come on with Bluetooth you can connect any sound source, so what were they thinking? 🤔🙄
They were thinking they want you to use the Sonos app…
Would two of these work as a rear speakers for sonos soundbar?
Adding some RGB LED lights will very artistic!
Do you have a video on budget friendly surround sounds with a good sound quality ? Thank you
How can I pair it with a regular desktop computer?
The Tweeter and the Base Driver appear to be the same diameter and yet mention is made of the fact that one is almost three times larger than the other?
I am confused?
I am getting lag when I play RUclips music from M1 Mac thru Airplay. Lag in the sense it starts sounding after 15-20 sec I start hitting the play button. How to fix this issue?
Think they missed a really cool chance to make it assistant capable. Would've sold them just for that alone
So, if I have a Sonos amp with a pair of floor standing speakers used for tv/cinema sound… could a pair of frames be used for surround using the Sonos app?
Hi Aaron, yes absolutely :)
@@smarthomesounds Thank you, I got confused after watching a few reviews, one of them was mentioning it could not. But all clear now :)
Does it support Apple Music spatial audio?
Would it link with sonos setup?
Is it possible to connect the speaker to act as a soundbar for the TV/Xbox setup?
unfortunately you would need a sonos soundbar. these only work as music speakers or surround sound speakers. the sonos ray is good and cheap at the same time and would let you use these as surrounds. plus it is a good center channel for rounding the setup out
I really like the idea of the Symfonisk frame, but I own one of the Symfonisk shelves and it’s software is utter garbage and has regular drops despite having put my WiFi on the channels the troubleshooting requires and multiple contacts with the CS from Sonos telling me that it’s probably too far from the router (less than 5 meters away; one wall in the middle)… has anyone bought one of these frames and actually had it work in a “real life” setting?
I have two symfonisk shelf speakers. I have them in the window, second flor apartment, 15-20 other wifi’s showing up, route 3-4 meters away. No problem 😌 Sorry! 🤷♂️
Can one cast audio to it, like from RUclips, etc?
Could you pair a screen and a one as rear speaker set?
Last time I was in Ikea I heard the lamp and was really surprised at the sound quality
Can you set these up as down firing speakers with the new Sonos beam to create a better atmos setup
probably not because they are meant to be level or at a slight angle.
would mounting this to a wall give you a little better bass response?
Great product and great review.
You can buy the actuator on amazon for peanuts and stick it on one of your pictures!
If these we set up as rear surrounds on a wall right behind the couch would it be ok as surround?
The sound is almost the same as the One. So no issues in using them as surrounds.
You can also go for the symfonisk bookshelfs, as they also sound pretty similar. For a pair of surrounds you would save 150$. You can also wall mount them or put them on a stand if you need to.
@@adyandrey23andrey thank you for that and given my lack of space around the couch I might have to opt for this setup. Good thing is that IKEA has a great returns policy so if it doesn't work out I should be able to return it.
@@cobraflunkie exactly, try it out. If you don't like how it sounds, you can return them. But if you like them, then you'll just be happy with it. :)
can you create a stereo pair with a couple of the frames?
Yes you can.
@@johnlouiegrajo2498 and can you add a sub?
Love the idea.....but at the price point I feel a stand with Sonos One would be a better option.
Do you know if it is possible to create a stereo pair with two of these and use them in the same room as the arc without adding surrounds?
can this be used with an windows laptop?
I would love if they had movie cover art for a med to low budget media room.
Cord against the wall is an eyesore.
well that is for most locations possible so fix...what else to expect??
Hide in wall!
I would fish the wire through he wall
Then shut your eyes mate
Relocate your outlet
How do you connect this one to TV?
