This one of the very finest episodes! Also historically correct.
Season 1, episode 7 is a much lighter story, but still very good.

Although many of the "miner" details were changed with artistic license, the basic story of mining engineer Philip Diedesheimer's invention of Square set timbering and first installing it in the Comstock mines, is historical. Several episodes of Bonanza contain a basis of historical reality. To name a few, the stories of Mark Twain, Albert A. Michelson and the Pony Express are all about 80% historical.

I truly love it when this fantastic script of Bonanza bring to bear, the realities of history, and this one is a humbling example of the beauty of one man's accepting assistance from associates that bring to fruition the life-saving creativity of Philip Diedesheimer's honeycomb supporting system, that became a new standard of mining.

Another principle that excites me is how tragedy brings to bear in one's consciousness the practical spectrum of empathy for all people's losses, and the feeling's that embraces such heartfelt emotions for each other as we share in life together in this fabulous experience of living life together as one human family.

Philip Deidesheimer, the mining engineer was born in Darmstadt, Germany. He was not of Dutch origin as claimed in this Bonanza episode.

*When the sound is messed up like most of the videos this person uploaded usually you have to use headphones, secondary speaker or even bluetooth device to get the sound to work. Not sure why, but that's what I use to watch this.*

He should have gotten a paten and used some of the money to give to the women who lost husbands in that mine.
