    I’m a carpenter in the USA. I hate doing renovations because usually it entails redoing someone else’s shoddy work from a decade or two ago, 50 years at most. If we had more well crafted buildings like this that are worth preserving, I could see this work being quite fulfilling. I can see you enjoy your craft. You are blessed.

    Quite a project well done. I especially like the use of the naturally curved timbers. Well worth the extra effort that they require in fitting.

    It's always so sad to see these once beautiful traditional buildings in such a bad state. I'm glad it's getting some much needed love.

    A fascinating project! I may be weird, but I really liked the demonstration of what can happen to timber over the years. This is not just an art project, these are real repairs, seeing those is a rare thing here on YT. I am not the biggest fan of "natural" wood or "live edges", but that is just personal preferrence, I know these are traditional in Japan. Seeing those being made, however, was a sight to behold. The skill with the axe and especially the lady with the adze (?) were very impressive. Please tell me that she is a professional carpenter, I may need to know that for my motivation. 😆
    It's a lot of work, but it's getting there. Please keep us updated!

    What a wonderful bit of "sashimono" that is. I wonder, is the wood left untreated or do you apply a weather resistant finish to it next? I've been eagerly looking forward to this video for a month following on IG. Great work and great content. Thank you.

      Thanks 😊
      The wood is generally left untreated but for those exposed to the elements, it’s stained with oil.

    Beautiful work again sir. Can I ask, do the beams need to be attached to the stonework below, or do they just sit on the stones using gravity?

    • @dylaniwakuni
      @dylaniwakuni  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, they just sit on top of the stones

    Uh... How safe in a big earthquake is it to be under the load carried by those posts on stones? I'm not a troll, I'm honestly asking. Are there other things about the house that keep it so safe it doesn't matter if the foundation is basically vertical posts balancing on rocks.

    … Грамотно же было до этого сделано. 0:10 Ну сгнило, бывает. Надо было заменить на новые элементы. А сейчас дырище над дверью.
