The new award national icon award I think it’s a good thing for Jamaicans. They were icon. I would rather them to become a national heroes, but I still live with icon because they were icon. It is what it is. Let’s move on. They contribute a lot to jamaica culture. What is time for us to have some some new people up there to become national heroes . they can name them national icon for now and later on you step it up to national heroes so it’s a start

The person doing that report need to look up the etymology of the word HERO. Hero came from a word meaning to die for, or protector or defender. It's therefore a recognition that belongs to a soldier or someone who fought for freedom or justice for others.
It should be therefore understood that Bob, Miss Lou, Usain, Shelly, Elaine etc are not and could not be rightfully be regarded as heroes.
These national icons gain their recognition for various different things but none of which met the criteria of being a hero. So rightfully, no Jamaican as done that which we can justify to the point of bestowing on them the title hero.
The Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey gave his all for the freedom of this nation and was rightfully regarded as our first national hero. As iconic as Bolt or even Bob are, they haven't done anything to be rewarded with such honour.
We love our Bob and it's total rubbish to think that because he's rasta he's not regarded as a hero. Bob died making music as a way of living not fighting for his country or the rights and justice of others.
