      Pop songs nowadays should hang their heads in shame...or the artists. You get what I mean 😂😂

    • @jpetersgoyanks
      @jpetersgoyanks 4 года назад

      richard dimeck FYI;: pop songs literally means white songs. The term pop music was invented to differentiate between music that white people made and music that black people made which was called negro music so radio listeners knew the difference and white weren’t corrupted by the sounds of black people. When we forget this we forget the past and are doomed to repeat it... I.E.: Trump.

      Jordan Peters Jordan Peters Pop music has evolved. It has no race, gender, or ethnicity preference. The B-52’s are pop, just as artists like the Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Gershwin, Adele, Usher, Michael Jackson, Beck, and Kendrick Lamar are pop.

    • @jpetersgoyanks
      @jpetersgoyanks 4 года назад

      luisalonsoecheverria it has nothing to do with the music, it’s the term that has racist connotations. The music is called Rock when you are talking about The Beatles, or R&B when you are talking about Marvin Gaye & Adele & Michael Jackson & Usher, or Jazz when talking about Gershwin, or Hip-Hop when talking about Kendrick Lamar. The only thing they have in common musically is that they are all often categorized by a term with a origin in Jim Crow era racism. People wanna connect these artists by calling them pop but the only real things they have in common are that they are human musicians.

    The B-52's were so much more than just a fun or party band, their earlier music was very creative & arty & in Kate & Cindy they had two of the greatest female vocalists ever, totally unique, groundbreaking & just beautiful. Two songs that highlight this perfectly are 'Give Me Back My Man' & 'Dance This Mess Around'

    When I was in my mid twenties, my brother called me at my mom's flower shop where I was a bookkeeper. He had delivered a rental car to Kate, and even though he was too dumb to know who she was, she said that there would be two backstage passes for him at that nights show. He called me to invite me, and deliver some flowers to the hotel as thanks. When I got there she was in the lobby with Sarah Lee, the bassist from Gang of Four. Kate was the nicest person you could ever meet, and then gave said that there would be four VIP passes waiting for us at the show so that our sisters could come. Strange to go to a show with no tickets, but at the window they were expecting us, and we saw an amazing show.

    Ricky Wilson (founding guitarist) had just passed away, and Keith (founding drummer) stepped up to play guitar, and he nails Ricky's vibe here. So there's a little melancholy in the songs from that album. I think Fred was not fully committed at that time, so Kate was elevated to front person, and she's great. There is so much talent in that band.

    @indiareacts This was their first album following the death of their lead guitarist - Ricky Wilson - big brother to Cindy Wilson (the blonde singer). His death - the result of AIDS - devastated Cindy and the group, and they went into seclusion for a several years. Cindy wasn't sure if she had it in her to perform again. But they reformed the band and Keith, formerly the drummer, learned guitar and they carried on in Ricky's honor for a comeback album that would be their biggest hit.

    India, on every B-52s album, there's always a song exclusively featuring Kate and Cindy, because their otherworldly vocal harmonies deserve it: It fabulously started with 1979's "52 Girls", later, "Legal Tender" (1983), "Summer of Love" (1986), "Roam" (1989), and "Debbie" (1998). If you want to hear the (unofficial) official sonic sequel to "Roam", listen to "Juliet Of The Spirits"...it will blow your mind how great those 2 sirens sound in 2008. You won't be disappointed...

If you want a real musical experience from them, check out 'Bouncing Off the Satellites' which was not supported by a tour and was mostly unloved due to the death of Ricky Wilson (Cindy's brother). this album is magnificent and deserves a gazillion listens. 'Girl From Ipanema Goes to Greenland', 'She Brakes For Rainbows', 'Ain't It A Shame', 'Wig'...all great tunes.

To me....we're meant to get caught up in the fun of it....just as in what I think the subject is about. Think about the beginning...a boy and a girl....the rocket they may ride without anything but the love they feel. They even had bagels and a banana going through. The main thrust of the B-52's is as a dance band. Like so much of what was labeled "New Wave" (not really a singular movement in music) the lyrics bring in the feelings of the times that include new age mysticism and just plain fun. The lyrics of the B-52's also wedded weird ideas, weaving notions of love, strange happenings, and an interconnectedness of things. They were exemplars of the earliest computer age. An amazingly fun concert.

    I'm so glad you were able to get to this finally! This song really showcases the interesting and complex harmonies between Kate and Cindy that the B-52s are so well known for. There are a few other songs like this, but my personal opinion is that Fred Schnieder's unusual vocals really add to the uniqueness of the band. Their early music was definitely more quirky than Roam and other hits off of Cosmic Thing. One of their best selling records. If you'd like to react to another video of theirs from Cosmic Thing with Fred on vocals, check out Channel Z.

    The B-52's (not the bomber but a nickname for a beehive hairdo) came out of the indie rock scene from Athens, GA. Other notable groups are R.E.M, Pylon, and The Vapors.

    Sort of reminds me of I Don't Feel Like Dancing by the Scissor Sisters as well as Holiday by The Other Ones.

    Boy/Girl bands when they click are truly something special. Mama's and Papa's are another example

    This was written about the same time the 'internet' was starting, tho it was dial up from Compuserve or "The Well" or "The Source" . But it was something they would have had access to at the time. (89)...and it was a big thing about the possibilities. I remember getting a 'laserdisc' single of this song while doing proto internet stuff on dial up with "The Source" and Compu serve on local dialup and bouncing across the globe to other sites and places. Without wings. Without Wheels.

    Right: Girl, go out and explore all the things the world has to offer without fear, you're gonna love it. Specifically right now, with this boy (or whoever). 'Around the world every trip begins with a kiss....' India saw that banana go through the bagel....

    you've wildly missed the meaning of the lyrics here... it's entirely about Sex. When you see it, you can't unsee it

      And if you didn't have a clue up to that point, there's always the banana through the bagel hole as they're singing "ride the arrow to the target one" @2:18.

    This is a great song, that at first glance is about traveling the world, but could also be interpreted as a journey two lovers might make without even leaving their house...

    Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson are the girls. Fred Schneider is one of the boys (singer). Keith Strickland is the other boy (guitars). They write all of their songs together.
