Im polish and I was taken as rude by english people. I was never rude, I wasn't sure what was I doing wrong. Also had trouble at work coz its wasn't clear for me what they wanted from me.

Hi, that happened also quite often with me and my American colleagues. I also worked for quite a while in Haiti, which is rather an indirect culture. But the people there will not tell you directly, because of their indirect approach.

Hallo Sylvia, I think the best way to learn and change is to first be aware of the difference. Second you need to observe the other culture. Third, you want to discuss the differnces with the people from the other culture. After a while you will observe the differnce and the mistakes you make in discussing with the other person. But to be honest, when I am in the opposite culture I find myself here and there being still too direct with indirect people, and that after studying this subject for a long time. I do not recall ans specific research on this subject, but it is treated in many cross-cultural books.

@@cultureacademy7641 How can you discuss the differences to have optimal understanding when they are an indirect culture that handles it by totally ignoring you and wanting to run away from the problem of having a different culture and being as unclear as possible about it all? How's that for a direct communication of the indirect culture.
