Over the last week and a half I made my first sourdough starter and my first loaf of bread. So this video really came at a good time for me. I’ve watched so many videos and read so many websites. It gets to be a little overwhelming. I hope to make a lot more sourdough bread in the near future. Thanks!
Very informative tutorial. I’ve made the recipe two times and had trouble with it rising. We keep our house at 68 degrees and if I turn the oven light on, it gets over a 100 degrees overnight in the oven and over rises. It has been unusually cold here this month. I wrote on the recipe to wait until warm weather to make again. Your dough turned out beautifully. I’ve dehydrated my sourdough several times in case something happens to my starter. I understand you can freeze starter also.
How about trying it in the microwave with the door a bit open? I’ve seen people do that! How did you dehydrate? Did you use flat or fed starter? Teach me everything!
@ I didn’t think of the microwave. I have dehydrated both. I poured it out on a parchment lined cookie sheet. This was in the summer so it took one to two days. Obviously, a thin starter dries quicker than a thicker one. I did not use a dehydrator or a fan. I watched lots of RUclips and there were lots of differing opinions. I just did my thing. I dried them until I could crush it with my fingers. I also dried a whole wheat one since I did not use it often. Some are stored in a cupboard and two are in the fridge. I have not rehydrated one yet. I stored them in 8oz jelly jars. My son has used the same method as I did and has rehydrated his successfully.
Thank you!! Will make over the weekend! Btw, the English muffins that I used all the wrong ingredients and used the paddle not the hook lol, actually turned out really good!! Couldn’t believe it!! My husband will love this bread!!
@ if you’re curious, I didn’t have milk I realized of course after having it already to mix lol so I used some almond milk and heavy cream, then realized I used bread flour instead of all purpose!! Oh boy….
Great recipe. I was just telling my husband that I need to get back on the sourdough band wagon. My starter (fickle fred) got moldy in the fridge (my fault, I had not made anything in a while).....well I wasn't 100% it was mold but getting sick is not worth it if you are wrong so I threw away good old fickle fred! After watching this, I guess I'll be heading to the kitchen to start a new starter!
There was 60 grams, but it was unfed starter. I was using a recipe that needed fed. Sometimes I will just throw the discard away, but I generally try to use it in a discard recipe. I have a bit too much now, causing me to have to discard, I try not to keep so much unless I am going to be baking a lot
I make sourdough bread every week. Thanks.
You’re a sourdough superstar!
Beautiful loaf of bread,
Thanks! This is a pretty no fail recipe for me!
I'm always looking sourdough recipes. Terry was watching with me and said "you guys even have the same color nail polish!!
Love this!

Last year I was making sourdough bread...but this looks much easier. 👍👍🥰
I think it is!
I did your rice trick last week and it worked perfectly. Rice was so nicely toasted that I could’ve used it in rice pilaf!
Oh wow! Thats awesome-mine rice always burns!
Gonna try this weekend!
Let me know how it turns out
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead I baked the sourdough bread today. It was easy, fun to make and it turned out so good! Thanks.

I am itching to have a piece-my hummus growling. The babies have kept me so busy today I haven’t had time to eat!
Thank you for coming through for me.
Thank you I am going to try this one, I like easy.
I hope you like it!
My jar looks like yours. I’ll probably clean it in a day or two. Lol
Me too!

Woohoo!!!! Do it!!!
How often do you feed your starter from the fridge? I had let mine go for several months and it came back but did take two feedings.
I pretty much use it weekly. If I’m not going to use it I try to feed every two weeks
How do you make a sourdough starter? I have been what to start a sourdough starter, but not sure how to start! Thank you!
I have a video!

@@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead thank you
I would have never thought not to slice into it while hot
As much as you want to and as hard as it is not too, it really does make for a better loaf of bread!
I'll have hubs watch, he's my bread maker. can you cook it in anything besides a Dutch oven?
You can open bake it on a cookie sheet-not sure if the temp/times. You can also put it in a loaf pan and then invert a loaf pan on top to form a lid!
What happens to the starter you didn't use and wasn't there 60 grams in the jar to use.
