I was born and raised in Pauoa valley. Hiked from the end of booth rd through a thick bamboo forest to the pali look out. Family still lives in Pauoa. It’s definitely a hidden gem. It was good to see my old friend, Rex Freitas in this video. I miss home…

Back in 1985 I was renting a room in a house in Pauoa Valley that was (@ that time) several houses from last one. It didn’t have a paved road until one year later. I called it lychee valley because of the many fruiting trees. The neighbor across the street got chased into the place they were renting by a wild pig, our house hold even snared a wild pig that we cooked in an imu! I consider it a sacred place after we hiked further in about a mile when we stopped and looked to the ocean and there was the Aloha Tower. Later, a couple months there was a newspaper article by a kapuna woman talking that Pauoa Valley use to supply the whaling ships with fruit and food that was abundant from this lush valley!

I used to do towing back in Pauoa. Always stopped by Lynn's on the way out. I never even knew about that grave yard site, I always thought it was just an abandoned field.
