  • By request: This is an instructional tutorial lesson teaching my version of the traditional public domain tune "Wildwood Flower" (originally named "I'll Twine Mid the Ringlets") on five-string bluegrass style banjo. Hope you enjoy it. As usual, I take it lick by lick, then put it together slowly at first, then faster toward the end, adding rhythm guitar audio overlay and guitar chords.
Free tab and play-along tracks at different speeds are available at my website, littlerockbanjo.com.

Thank you for this video. It’s easy to understand and I like the diagrams for each section. It’s most appreciated. I grew up with this song and I’m going to finally learn it, I hope, I’m sure. This is great!!

I am definitely diggin' on this banjo playing. You are an precious resource with the way you break it down and progressively up the pace. The song blossoms in front of me. Terry

The split screen and tab at the bottom is great!! Keep it up.
I bought Flatt and Scruggs album, Foggy Mountain Banjo (Yes, I found a CD and count myself lucky to have found it.) and I would appreciate your video instruction on all songs from that album...that you haven't posted already.

Thanks, but can you play the tune first in real time so we can get the tune in our head or you don't think it would help?

Just go to the 10 minute mark to hear him play it slow, but fast enough to make sense of.

Or 10:55 for an even faster rendition.

Yes, Mote. I really like hearing the whole song first then the breakdown. That would be really good.

Friendly suggestion: Play thru the tune once, up front, to provide context.
