The original video is from the Premier League channel, so all of these goals were scored in the Premier league. This misses many good goals scored in Spain, the USA or for the England National team.
Arguably his best goal in terms of being meaningful was a free kick for England that meant we secured qualification to go to the 2002 World Cup.

A lad from Essex who loved football. I bet he practised for years trying to score goals from anywhere on the pitch, just like a snooker player would practise shots from anywhere on the table. The power and accuracy of his kick is pure skill.

Actually, he practiced accuracy using hanging tyres in his local park as a child.

I met him once in a hotel lobby, he had his daughter with him, she was still a baby, he was such a nice man, spoke to me for a few minutes. He also queued for hours to see the Queen’s lying in state just like any member of the public. My nieces also met him and he was so nice to them.

Beckham was a free-kick specialist. He actually played mid-field rather than striker, as a mid fielder he would pick out good tactical passes and get the ball upfield. He could land a ball at your feet from half a pitch away his accuracy was so good. He had great vision too, he created so many goal scoring opportunities for team mates by seeing an opening in the defence they can charge in to and placing the ball right where it needs to be for them to receive during the sprint.

Re “ slower paced sport”. ie football .
I’m Scottish and was lucky enough to see a Yankees game a few years back.
I enjoyed it very much, amazing stadium ( new ) and great atmosphere, but my god ! so many starts and stops..Obviously it’s all about advertising so the games are crammed with ( if your watching on tv ) garbage brain frying ads.
Football in the UK has one break after 45 minutes for 15 minutes ( and that time will not be solid advertising )and if you’re watching on the BBC it will be ad free because the BBC is a non commercial station.

That midfield - Keane, Scholes, Giggs and Beckham - was perfectly balanced with four extremely gifted players combining their varied skills and personalities to maximum effect. The passing and wit of Scholes, pace and trickery of Giggs, crossing and dead ball majesty of Beckham and motivation, energy and positional nous of Keane... Scholes and Giggs were also capable of contributing spectacular goals, while Keane covered every inch of the space behind them to enable them to express themselves. Last goal, goal keeper (not tender) was off his line, he had moved forward anticipating a pass to the forwards so he wanted to close the gap to add pressure to them. When beckham looked for the pass, he saw this and decided to lob the keeper leaving them no option but to scramble back in a panic.

14:14 - FREE KICKS NOT PENALTY KICKS - A Penalty kick is taken from a specific spot directly in front of the goal, and is awarded if a foul takes place anywhere inside the penalty area (the larger of the two goalkeeper's boxes). A free kick is taken from the exact spot a foul occurs on the pitch, outside of the penalty box.

6:41 I do get what you're saying, but remember this is a video of his top 10 most amazing goals... I'm sure there are other videos out there about his ball handling skills etc, but this one is just amazing goals in and of themselves, not worrying about who's winning ir losing, about whether its a final or world cup game, or just a normal Premier League game... It's not about the circumstances, it's just about the skills.

If you want to see true magnificence from Bex, try and find the England -v- Greece game from the European championships, can’t remember the year but someone reading this will know, he literally played that entire game on his own.
Also you’ll note the different hairstyles, he was famous for changing hairstyles for particular campaigns.
He can shoot like that because every training day, he would practice shooting for hours on end whilst all the others had showered and gone home! From allover the field, different distances from the goal mouth, he’d use props in the pitch to cause obstructions so that he’d have to angle his kicks to get round the obstructions. There hasn’t been another since like him although some of the young players in the current England squad are pretty good in different ways.
The Bend it like Beckham reference you’re half recognising is a film that was based on him.

Allow me to answer your question. Why is football not popular in the US:
1- football cannot be monetized. Aside from half-time there are no breaks.
2- Americans like to be the best at everything, so when you find something in which you cannot excel, you label it as insignificant or dull or the more common "not manly" instead of improving. You create a sport that only you play and call yourselves World Champions.
3- low scoring is also a big no no for americans. You prefer big numbers at the end of a stupid game than a 1-0 at the end of a tense quality game (1 touchdown is worth 7 points..... why???)
4- you find football to be slow paced but the truth is, both teams are always 30 seconds away from scoring at all times, which is the reason why you might see teams passing 50 times before a goal. They create openings and opportunities.
Apologies for using harsh terminology but this is the truth.

Then on the running track doing hurdles spaced for the 100 metres our were all around the track so 7.5 laps of them at top speed just ahaving with my trailing leg. Then football a left winger with many aspects of Beckhams team members to my game i was a left winger midfielder striker and left back i drove the ball from our goal area straight through the ball one almighty effort with delayed top spin that made the ball dip behind their goalkeeper. All players on both reams atopped playing and all on both teams came to congratulate me the best goal i ever scored and i could bend it more than Beckham. Scored from the corner bent it into the far post nehind the keeper fegular crossfieild bent nalls to the right flank to run down the touch line once i had played ailly bugger to draw the defenders to me. We scored an awful lot of goals like rhat. As far as memory serves Beckham was the first proffesional to do the "over-halfway" goal in that way. Beckham was an ace player but was, in my opinion, known for sheer accuracy even at speed ie running. His ability to judge where the receivers foot will be when the ball arrived was unreal. I think one of the main reasons it isn't popular over there is the way the matches are structured. It seems on american tv that you have advertisements every 5 minutes or so. 2 halves of 45 minutes each and the whatever extra time needed. Nowhere in there really for the companies to make money.

  • @christopheb.6121

Football cannot work in the United States because it is 2 halves of 45 minutes with only 15 minutes of break being both. Which means a lot less stoppages in play and the advertisements that go with them. American TV channels don't like that 😂

I end up watching a lot of football on American broadcasters (through dodgy illegal streaming sites lol) and trust me, the Americans find new and embarrassing ways to insert advertising!
The match has a sponsor. The half time has a sponsor. The highlights have a sponsor. Player of the Match has a sponsor. The added time at the end of each half has a sponsor! Hell, during the 15 minutes of half time, they have 4 or 5 ad breaks! I didn't even think that was possible in such a short space of time!
Trust me, there are few things more cringe than hearing the commentator saying "this stoppage time is brought to you by Progressive Insurance" or "Half Time, brought to you by Geico!". Thanks, Geico. We would never have had this half time if it weren't you guys bringing it to us!

David Beckham's second son, Romeo, is also a professional footballer. Brooklyn, the eldest, started playing too, but opted to become a professional model and photographer. I imagine it's difficult trying to walk in such a great football star father's footsteps. The third son, Cruz, is keen on music.

David Robert Joseph Beckham OBE born 2 May 1975 is an English former professional footballer, the president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City. Primarily a right winger and known for his range of passing, crossing ability and free-kick taking, Beckham has been hailed as one of the greatest and most recognisable midfielders of his generation, as well as one of the best free-kick takers of all time. He won 19 major trophies in his career, and is the first English player to win league titles in four different countries: England, Spain, the United States and France.

From the age of 7, he used to spend hours trying to hit a post from all areas of a pitch. You have heard of 'Bend it like Beckham' because it is a very good film about an English women's football team and the drama therein. Spoiler Beckham makes a brief appearance.

Underrated as a player, certainly more famous for being famous, looking how he does, crazy fashion statements, owning a club and being married to a Spice Girl but as a player he was probably the most consistent free kick taker in world football throughout his career and had the best right foot cross on earth. Had a never give up attitude also and even when the team looked bad you'd always see him running around. He spent most of his career in a great Man Utd and Real Madrid team and was a sure pick, isn't really much more to say about his talent than that.

I don't know about that... I mean these days he's certainly famous for being famous. And granted, I'm from Aus, not UK, but from what I remember, here in Australia, he was know for being one of the best (if not THE best) players in the league during the mid 90's-early 2000's, it wasn't until he was both married and retired that he started being more known for being a celebrity than an athlete.

I grew up watching this era of United and Beckham was unreal. A free kick felt like winning a penalty and his work rate would put a lot of modern wide players to shame.
That said, his celebrity status caused friction and a fallout with Sir Alex and led to his departure. He definitely got more famous than the rest of the footballing world for his life outside of sport.

American football is technically the same pace due to all the stopping and starting during plays.
There isn’t constant movement like football (soccer) or rugby and with constantly changing players for certain plays NFL players get more rest by running less.

David Beckham as a player was one of the most famous footballers of his time. The phrase 'bend it like Beckham' came about due to his uncanny ability to produce those curving shots. He later married Victoria Adams who was a member of a pop group called 'The Spice Girls'. Together they also took part in the fashion world.

The long-range precision strike was Beckham's speciality. Theres some great video compilations of Ronaldo and Messi for close-control trickery you might want to look at sometime, and they score long range too, not as many as Beckham., but they're arguably more "complete" all-round player/entertainers !

I'm not a Man U fan, or a particular Beckham fan, and I wouldn't say he had the all round skills of some of the greats. But I don't think I've seen anyone else who could strike a ball as consistently well as him. And another thing which doesn't get mentioned enough was his work rate. There was one England match (I can't remember which one now) where he single handedly dragged us back into it when we looked down and out. He almost ran himself into the ground. That changed my opinion of him forever.

Ah Becks, he has had a really interesting career! Starting out for Manchester United (the biggest and the most successful Premier League team of that time). He was renowned for his "dead balls" (kicking when the ball was still, free kicks etc) but he was also a skillful winger. He became a bit of a British "icon" of the 90s when he married Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice from the Spice Girls) and then his football almost was dwarfed by the media melee. It's sometimes forgotten that he was an amazing footballer. Seems like a nice guy. And much to many men's dismay, he is a good-looking chap!

You may know of David Beckham because he ended his career in the MLS with LA Galaxy and now is the part owner of the Inter Miami franchise. These are only highlights from the Premier League so these are all just League matches, he also played in Spain and Italy as well as the USA. And that discounts his time playing internationally for England where his freekick against Greece is probably the most memorable. But if you want to see a player who was really good at manipulating the flight of the Ball I think Brazil's Roberto Carlos may have been better than Beckham. Also Bend It Like Beckham is a British film about a girl who wants to play like Beckham but is banned by her parents so sneaks about behind their backs.
