Maher wrote this. A trumpet player wrote a song where the trumpets play a support role. Just one more proof that SP is all about the sound, and the movement, and how it works together to make magic.
You are my favourite Snarky Puppy's reactor and i've seen every single reaction in youtube hahaha I would enjoy a lot your reaction to "The Curtain" by them with the Metropole Orkest. I think it's one of the best musical pieces of our time. Thank you for your work!
Thanks so much Dennis, I really appreciate your kind words. You made my day. I’ll add that to my list and I look forward to hearing and watching the video.
this is my favorite track from the album. Lingus is amazing, but this one has the feeling. thanks Sean, and thanks bob for picking up on the little things that make this amazing too.
That was Shaun Martin on Keyboards. Even Corey was smiling at his solo. 🙂 You still have to check out Jacob Collier and Snarky Puppy, "Don't You Know" !!! 🙂
Yep that’s right Roy I’ll add that one to the list I’ll be doing tomorrow. I really want to see and hear that one. Thanks for thr name of thr keyboardist.
Sleeper will always be a special song for me. I discovered Snarky Puppy when I was about 13, through the We Like it Here album. My two favourite songs on there were Lingus, and Sleeper. In November 2019, they were touring and were coming to my local city in the UK (Nottingham). I was 16 at the time, and it was my first ever gig. I went on my own, stood right at the front, no earplugs, and had the greatest experience of my life, seeing my idols play. The one who stood out the most was Shaun. Shaun had such an energy, as a person and as a virtuosic musician. You could tell he loved to entertain, and always poured his heart and soul into everything he did. At the end of the concert, they played Sleeper. Seeing Shaun sing his heart out, physically and metaphorically, through that instrument brought me to tears. It taught me of the profound way that music can connect to our soul. I was lucky enough to see him perform once again in 2021, this time with his own trio. That concert was equally special, my favourite part being his rendition of "Lovely Day", also using his signature talkbox. I feel so incredibly privileged to have witnessed a true great perform. No musician has impacted me on the profound level that Shaun has. He will forever be an inspiration to me, in my music, and in my life. Rest in peace Shaun. May your legacy last forever.
It's called a Talk Box, yes. It's basically a speaker with a tube attached to it... you can run a guitar, synth, etc. through it, and it sends the sound up through the tube into your mouth. You shape the sound that way, and the microphone picks it up. Kind of complicated, but when it was invented, that was the only way to do something like that.
I love your face when you see Shaun -- the guy who's usually playing bass notes with his two index fingers like a 5-year-old -- actually shred the keys for once.
He is a complete beast Adam. I just saw they are coming to Pittsburgh next April. I’m gonna try to see them live. I got a feeling it will be a game changer.
Mister Cielinsky, Indeed they are all technically perfect, but oh the emotions this tune brings are at times heartbreaking and also full of hope. This is pure Magic.
The guy on the keyboard/talk box Is Shaun Martin. He is an incredible musician. You should check his solo work. I recomend "Yellow Jacket". Great video!
Snarky Puppy is the best!! You really should check out some of their new songs. "Trinity" ( local river in Dallas/Ft Worth) is their latest recorded live (again!!) at "Deep Ellem" in Dallas.
I heard you say on a video that you play the saxophone. You should listen to snarky puppy with knower and Jeff coffin, the son I remember, from the album family dinner volume 2, and you would be in for a treat
Yes Nark my main instruments are sax, bass and clarinet. I haven’t listened to that one yet but Coffin is a beast. He plays with the Dave Matthews Band now.
Boogie on Raggea Woman - covered by Vulfpeck You have to listen to it. It is one of my all time favorite songs. It has everything: Cory Wong, Antwaun Stanley (Vocals), Talkbox, funk, peck .... Seriously, check it out
@@bobcieslinski if you watch this, pay attention to Cory. He adds so much to to it, but you really need to concentrate on him to appreciate all the small details

The keyboard through the talkbox SCREAMS emotion . . It just RIPS at your heart. . You can FEEL the pain in the music notes. . OUTSTANDING!
I totally agree with you Richard!
Time to check out their brand-new material. You should do Trinity from the forthcoming Empire Central album

God yes pleaseeee! Sleeper and The Curtain are my top 2 Snarky Puppy songs ever!

Agree. Courtain is amazing.
He stops and starts it far too often, and constantly talks over it. I'm surprised he can actually hear the music

ABSOLUTELY GREAT too
Mr. Shaun Martin grew up being classically trained on the keyboard, developed his skills early on... He's the man

Such a shame. We lost an incredible musician.

Thanks Jeff! I thought it was called a talk box. Like I said Leter Franklin made that famous way back. I saw him in concert and he used it.
Thanks for describing how it works! I never understood the sound went into his mouth, bounces around and out to the mic, but that makes so much sense.
Man I LOVE your reactions. So authentic.
Thanks Raymond I appreciate it!

Yeah, Shaun Martin is alright. I mean, he only has six Grammy awards, but that's better than a poke in the eye, hey? xD
Lol the dude is a beast.
I recommend checking out their version from the "Live at the Royal Albert Hall". Shaun is even more on fire.
