What does it mean to be a Drainer? “For me, it’s like a family atmosphere,” a fan told OGM host Emwell in line for Drain Gang’s recent Los Angeles show. While the Stockholm bred collective has become notorious for their niche underground sound - curated by members in Bladee, ThaiBoy Digital, Ecco2k and Whitearmor - each artist brings something otherwordly and unique to the table. Combining for a genre-less soundscape and a fan base that reflects the group’s dedication to their craft, Drain Gang has not only become a cultural phenomenon over the last decade, but a staple in hip-hop’s “cloud rap” culture. Associated acts in Swedish superstar Yung Lean and Gud further bolstered the collective’s standing as one of music’s most tantalizing acts, as Emwell and company scoured the lines to catch up with fans during Drain Gang’s April 10 show at the Globe Theater in LA. but they all look and appear the same rather than unique and "themselves". judging from these videos from dg show, it seems like there's a defined mainstream style within the subculture that people who's more introvert and just into the music and message feel alienated by. also to some degree, i think people watching this feel cringe because it dawns upon them that they are also like this. they thought they were unique and had a special spiritual bond with the d9, but when all the unique drainers gather together it acts as a mirror and shows them how much they've actually fallen in line into this whole cliché drain culture. They thought (silly them) they were unique and that this was something they invented themselves by listening to bladee and reading about gnosticism on wikipedia.

I’m a very normal, normal, person. I like the boys because if their unique style, vision, sound, and mysterious personality. I don’t think too hard into it past that. I don’t tie in spirituality or sexuality at all. That being said, I’m embarrassed to be associated with this fan base. Is there any “normal” Bladee fans out here? I went to the San Antonio show and felt very out of place the whole time

I don’t think there’s anything to be embarrassed about. Most of the people except for the first dude seem pretty down to earth and chill. Everyone finds their own interpretation and connection to their music and that’s kind of the beauty in it. Also I think there definitely are some spiritual undertones especially with Crest and a lot of the more recent Bladee. Maybe not sexuality so much as like identity specifically with Ecco.
