    Great video! Lots of hardwood in my area. BNSF has a huge tie curing yard in Springfield, MO. They cure ties in massive stacks until the moisture content gets low enough. Then they rebundle the tie and ship them to the Creosote treatment facility.

    Sure make it sound easy but i know its a hard job. Woodmizer does the hardest of things but you men have a hard job just making trees turn into boards.etc. Good job!!!❤

    White oak don’t take long to dull a blade. I’ve been looking for white oak logs
    Around here and it’s hard to find. I’m getting ready to drive 7 hours down to North Carolina to haul back some white oak logs . I don’t of anyone around here milling railroad ties.
    Good job. Thanks for sharing

      I only know of two other mills around here and there both stationary and they saw just about anything they can get there hands on 😂😂 I’d say the most they saw is yellow pine , Virginia pine. It’s hard around here. You can Saw ask you want it’s hard to get rid of whatever you saw. The counties around here won’t let you use much of it. Just the only thing you can you milled lumber around on is a dog house or chicken coop. The counties say milled lumber brings bugs and termites to your homes and properties and they have the residence believing it. So just about the only wood you can get rid of is slabs for people doing resin projects .

    • @burntchurch
      @burntchurch  Год назад

      Wow termite companies around here say you dont move termites in wood that they are in the ground and the ones in wood will die when you move them Its amazing how much things are different from one state to the other

    I think miles per galllon,how many bushels per acre,how much you make a week with a truck and how many ties you cut a day are all similar

    On making rail road ties.... is white oak the preferred material or can other type of oak be sawn? I think you said the tie needed the heart of the log? If so, does that mean only 1 tie can come from a log (assuming it isn't long enough to get 2 ties). If this is true, is the technique to make dimensional lumber until you are down to the size need for a tie? Thanks! I've subscribed and will watch to the end.

    • @burntchurch
      @burntchurch  4 месяца назад

      The company we sell to buys almost any hardwood cross tie they do like the heart in the middle of the tie they will tell you not to split a big log just make one tie but sometimes when we have really big logs we will make more than 1 tie you run the risk of them rejecting them or paying less for them so far we havent had them reject very many..We saw hickory,Maple,cherry,Gum and oak ties just to name a few different species I hope this helps if you have anymore questions just leave a comment I will try my best to answer thank you

    Love your videos! It may be an optical illusion, but is the left side of your mill head sagging just a bit?

    You mention going slower on the last log of the day...that is a good idea...seems like mistakes usually happen on the last log when everyone is tired.
