Great video! Lots of hardwood in my area. BNSF has a huge tie curing yard in Springfield, MO. They cure ties in massive stacks until the moisture content gets low enough. Then they rebundle the tie and ship them to the Creosote treatment facility.
Sure make it sound easy but i know its a hard job. Woodmizer does the hardest of things but you men have a hard job just making trees turn into boards.etc. Good job!!!❤
White oak don’t take long to dull a blade. I’ve been looking for white oak logs Around here and it’s hard to find. I’m getting ready to drive 7 hours down to North Carolina to haul back some white oak logs . I don’t of anyone around here milling railroad ties. Good job. Thanks for sharing
@@burntchurch I only know of two other mills around here and there both stationary and they saw just about anything they can get there hands on 😂😂 I’d say the most they saw is yellow pine , Virginia pine. It’s hard around here. You can Saw ask you want it’s hard to get rid of whatever you saw. The counties around here won’t let you use much of it. Just the only thing you can you milled lumber around on is a dog house or chicken coop. The counties say milled lumber brings bugs and termites to your homes and properties and they have the residence believing it. So just about the only wood you can get rid of is slabs for people doing resin projects .
Wow termite companies around here say you dont move termites in wood that they are in the ground and the ones in wood will die when you move them Its amazing how much things are different from one state to the other
I sure enjoyed this one brother! I always thought they made cross ties outa pine like the telephone poles. Guess I learned a little somethin today 😁👏👏👍
On making rail road ties.... is white oak the preferred material or can other type of oak be sawn? I think you said the tie needed the heart of the log? If so, does that mean only 1 tie can come from a log (assuming it isn't long enough to get 2 ties). If this is true, is the technique to make dimensional lumber until you are down to the size need for a tie? Thanks! I've subscribed and will watch to the end.
The company we sell to buys almost any hardwood cross tie they do like the heart in the middle of the tie they will tell you not to split a big log just make one tie but sometimes when we have really big logs we will make more than 1 tie you run the risk of them rejecting them or paying less for them so far we havent had them reject very many..We saw hickory,Maple, cherry,Gum and oak ties just to name a few different species I hope this helps if you have anymore questions just leave a comment I will try my best to answer thank you
@@austindicus4746 Oh ok the log deck it came with our sawmill we didnt buy the mill new we bought it second hand and the edger and log deck and sharpener and setter all came with it.I have seen the log decks on craigslist before you might look there
Great video. White oak sure makes some pretty boards.
Yes it is real pretty and its hard it dulls band blades about as fast as any wood we saw other than hickory

That's good looking lumber.whiteoak is great for boatbuilding
Wow I didnt no that.I no its hard as a rock to saw it dulls bandsaw blades pretty fast
I think miles per galllon, how many bushels per acre, how much you make a week with a truck and how many ties you cut a day are all similar
I agree 100%

Love your videos! It may be an optical illusion, but is the left side of your mill head sagging just a bit?
I think it just looks that way but im going to check it when I go back out to sawmill
You mention going slower on the last log of the day...that is a good idea...seems like mistakes usually happen on the last log when everyone is tired.
You right about that I sawed into one of the arms on the mill awhile back because I was in a hurry to get done thank you for watching
Do you trim the ends of the ties? what state are you in?
No we dont usely trim the ends we are in TN thank you for watching
You mentioned $3,000 per Board Foot? for what?
I meant to say $3000 per 1k board feet
For the very best 5/4 white oak lumber its not bringing near that much now
how long is a tie?
We cut them 8ft 8inchs long
Where did u get the green chain
We found it at a local scrap yard we had to replace the motor on it thank you for watching
I may have answered you wrong was you talking about the log deck that brimgs the log to the sawmill?
Yeah I was talking about the log deck. Wanting to buy an lt70 n saw ties, but there’s a year wait for one
