The way to deal with being in Dobby's situation is to not be at someone else's family gathering. Failing that, don't say anything out of line, or leave.
I think Dobby is overall uncomfortable because mark starts put the evening refusing to acknowledge that they're dating. Thats pretty hard for a grown man i his 30s to justify, idk how much trauma hes been through. So right off the bat shes being put in a crappy position of having to pretend they arent dating for his comfort. It doesnt help that the dad is antagonistic and clearly fucking unhinged. I feel like there is no way anyone with an ounce of compassion could take the father's side over Dobbys. Like obviously shes upset. It's not unreasonable that she didnt feel like pretending/playing along to make it through a tense dinner with a real sack of shit
Dobby at her worst. She really stirs up trouble, yet expects Mark to back her when she has deliberately caused a whole load of trouble. She then stomps off with a look on her face like she's chewing a lemon when she doesn't get her way, leaving Mark to pick up the pieces.

When Mark's mother asks Dobby if she has a boyfriend, she could & should have said "no". A simple way to avoid a scene. However, Dobby of course wanted to create a scene.
