I could be wrong, but that narrator here sounds like Keifer Sutherland. Can someone here verify that for me, please? I won't be offended if it's not him anyway.

What was Kelly's job? was she the engineer on the bird or what? Is the unit for the N.Y. guard the only unit with ski equipped C-130's. were to the practice ski landing other then the south pole?

+John Moore Judging by her conversation with the pilots, and her position in the cockpit I would say navigator, GPS did away with the navigator jobs but until a certain point in time, all large aircraft that traveled overseas had navigators.

+John doe Thanks for the info:At an open house a Kessler Air force base in Bollix Ms. one time I got to talk to and go through a C-130 for the New York Nation Air Guard, the planes had skies on the landing gear and the crew member had made a couple of landing at the south pole he said.

John Moore Back in the day to be a good navigator, you had to also be a Meteorologist and Astronomer, along with understanding how aircraft function, the older pilots I worked with all said that Navigator was the most difficult Airman rating to acquire. If you ever get a tour inside an aircraft that still has the navigator seat, look above it and you will see the astro dome, where the navigator took headings from the stars.

John Moore Another interesting fact about flying so close to the north or south pole is a magnetic compass isn't any good, if you're at the south pole, every direction you look is in fact north.
