Good & small for Otter & Belly bird belly dog with the lip licking is an absolute classic lol. Both should be T-shirt slogans! Bunny is just so adorable
It makes so much sense that the smell of bird is something a dog would know expansively rather than just what we see and hear outside. That she would recognize the smell of the dead chicken before and during its cooking and then in her consumption of it makes so much sense. The degree to which they are still so animal, despite all our breeding and domestication is amazing. it makes sense that they have no concept of meat. That is a human concept and generalization. Their amazing world of smell makes all creatures they consume specific.
I think she wants to go to your old house. We built a house and stayed in a trailer when the dogs were puppies. Now they always want to go into the trailer. Lol.
"bird belly" "belly bird" "belly dog" - I think there are a couple of take-aways from this: 1) Bunny seems to like chicken and seems to have at least a vague concept of where it goes after she eats it; 2) she might have heard Alexis or Johnny either say "nummy to the tummy" or "get in my belly"; and 3) there's likely to be more "bird belly" styled phrases from Bunny on and shortly after Thanksgiving. ^_^
And also, remember that dogs can feel full like we can! That full feeling comes from our bellies. We've always known that food goes to the belly, even before we understood what the stomach was.
Two things- Bunny is working through a lot of concerns about Otter. His behavior confuses her a lot, because he's young, MALE and doesn't think like Bunny does. She said he was 'good and small' as a way of saying...he's just young. She's reassuring herself he's not a bad apple, just still growing up. I think she might want some reassurance from you that he will mature. Maybe I'd say it's okay too if Otter behaves differently, since they're both unique (like you and Dad are family but not the same). Second, I believe she was asking about Uni, your cat she had accepted as family and then went missing. Bunny does not want the new stranger cat to become family because then it will hurt if she goes missing like Uni. This happened with my cat, Ginger. She bonded deeply with a foster cat we had for many months. Ginger was devastated when I found her a home. Months later we adopted another cat, just because Ginger was so lonely without her kitty friend. Our second cat, Juneau, was the friendliest cat, but Ginger refused to bond with her. She was too sad still from losing her foster kitty friend. Just like with kids, a sudden loss of family member makes them feel they themselves could suddenly lose their place as family. I think Bunny is still struggling with the one two punch of losing Uni and then Otter arriving, and so 'family' may not feel like a very stable concept right now.
I wonder if her pressing that Uni button at the end of her rant to wake you up was intentional? Like maybe Uni was who Bunny would spend time with when you were busy/asleep/out?
