Initially sentenced to 35 years in prison, his sentence was later reduced to 32.5 years on appeal. During his time in prison, Vybz Kartel's health reportedly declined, a factor that influenced the court's decision not to pursue a new trial. His lawyer, Isat Buchanan, expressed joy over the ruling, stating, “This is their independence, their emancipation. We always said God and time would lead us to this outcome.”
