From Season 8, Episode 16, "Mr. Monk and the End - Part 2": Monk (Tony Shalhoub) is called to a crime at the location where he first heard the news of his wife's murder and begins the most important investigation of his life. Part 2 of 2.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

In past episodes, you knew Monk’s happiness meant that either something was wrong, or that it wouldn’t last. This time, you know it’s true happiness, and that it’s staying for good.
Until the movie apparently. The synopsis better be a rumor
@@Vasun05I haven't read it, but is it that covid brought it all back?
Well it didn’t really last long til the movie. He’s depressed again and tries to commit suicide several times
@@adamtajyar I mean, it's definitely understandable. Covid has affected a lot of us mentally. I'm hoping that, after the ending of the movie, however, that he's finally back to a happy self.
@@JoybuzzerX Yes but almost he was happy for , 9 years aprox
I love that Sharona and Dr. Kroeger were both in the flashback and weren't ignored
This is the Adrian that Trudy fell in love with, and was Leland’s best friend. His OCD doesn’t debilitate him, but instead is just a little quirk that helps him solve impossible crimes
It's a gift. And a curse.
@@rcx9681 far less of a curse now.
1:14 callback to the very first episode where Monk kept bugging Sherona about the gas stove. Right here, the show had come full circle and it makes me nostalgic everytime.
Which is what made it the perfect choice for the film.
I absolutely love how they ended Monk and when they ended it. The writers never ran out of ideas because they knew when to quit while they were ahead.
Just little details like Adrian sleeping in the middle of his bed or wearing a t shirt instead of a button up shows how free he is after finding justice and knowing the truth about Trudy.
The way that he still has his OCD and phobias is very key and respectful. It would've been really easy for the writers to basically say "now Monk can be normal and move on".
But he still needs Natalie and the episode where he tries to be a Cop again shows us he really likes his position as a consultant and doesn't need to change much.
This is such a brilliant show.
I absolutely agree. But still would have liked an even 10 seasons lol
@@SZRLM I think ending on Season 8 really shows how okay Monk is. :D
Plus he still had his phobias before/during Trudy - it was just more manageable and not as bad.
@@SZRLM 10, a round number. even. neat. touch that thing, check the stove, letter , letter, letter. ha
I guess they couldn't have done a fast-forward where he finds another woman to be with? Would be sad if he spent his life alone. Still was young enough to get married and have kids, but not with a lot of time to waste. I remember Monk said in an episode that he wish he had said yes to having children with her. 😕
Monk one of the rare shows that had a perfect ending
Yes I totally love the ending
@@angelaholmes8888 Yeah. He solved his wife's murder, found out that a little part of Trudy was still alive who told him to keep doing what he loved and now he is more carefree and happy just by looking at his face. While he still as some issues He returned to his life before losing Trudy as that was what caused him to become the Monk we see in the show.
Until today
Weird thing to focus on but I just love the way Monk walks to the crime scene at the end you can see how he moves more freely, less contain and nervous about the environment he is in.
Everything about him is casual. In his apartment, he casually moves around, casually mentioning he’s gonna see a movie. He casually straightens out a magazine. Everything is casual because everything is good.
He’s acting like he used to when Trudy was around.
I totally noticed it too
Me too! He looks so relaxed and confident.
I was going to bring this up too, he had his suit unbuttoned which was a cool touch.
Monk saved me when I was bullied in school. Monday 8:15 p.m was the only thing that made me happy. The boys teased me for liking Monk, but he always stayed my soulmate. Tony and I even share the same birthday (9th of October, just 50 years apart)❤
Cool, man. I share the same birthday that Monk's character: March 14. And it's the same day that Netflix uploaded the full show of Monk on Argentina. It was a perfect gift.
Still love this show after all these years. I miss Monk, Natalie, Randy and Leland a lot.
Sharona best girl
One of the best TV series that I have ever watched.
@@Akyomi yeah sharona is better
There’s a talk of a movie of the same name with all the cast
It now on Netflix🎉🎉🎉🎉
That little nod to the first ever episode where he left the oven on and can't focus...chef's kiss writing there!
"Mr Monks Going to the Movies"
And now all these years later, Mr Monk returns in a movie
It’s a beautiful ending. The little changes just makes it wonderful to observe that Monk has a weight taken off his shoulders: the way he dresses, the way he talks, the way he checks the stove. His OCD is still there and he still needs Natalie’s support but he’s getting better and now he has Molly, his beautiful stepdaughter.
I think the thing that I love about how differently Monk acts is how he's able to finally look more relaxed and seem less uptight about every little detail before he even leaves his apartment. Over the course of the series, it's seen that Adrien dresses more businesslike no matter what situation he's in because he's too filled with anxiety and unexplainable phobias to be comfortable. As the scene ends, we see Adrien just walking right into the crime scene, instead of him needing to look at every superfluous detail outside or even his need to disinfect for no real necessity other than some brief peace of mind.
Love the throwback reference to the opening scene of the series…when he asks Sharona about whether or not he left the stove on. Brilliant writing.
A perfect ending to a fantastic series.
I'm genuinely crying. I'm so happy for Monk. He seems so relaxed, you can see it in his stride and he's going out with someone. I can't think of a better ending to an absolutely fantastic show
Ma'am, he's not real.
He wasn't going out with Molly, he was just bonding with her as the daughter he never had. The very last piece of Trudy in his life (I mean, unless her parents are still around). He DOES end up dating afterwards, though, in the books following the final episode.
@@Jazzypants2007 thanks for the correcting with the wording.
That song made me cry as a 13-year-old, no joke!
@Jazzypants2007 I loved that part when he found out he had a stepdaughter he never knew and now he has a chance to bond with her and to tell her about Trudy. ❤
Always loved the outfit change. Such a simple and meaningful detail.
Happy 69th Birthday to Mr. Monk himself, Tony Shalhoub!
This show was amazing but deserves more credit. They didn't mess up the ending. Miss this show so much.
who wrote this ending truly loved the Mr. Monk characters and the fans! Thank you🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for including Bitty in the farewell; I loved her.
I just need ONE full episode of healthy and happy Monk man 😭😭 no stakes no strings attached just a brilliant little case to prove it wasn’t the sickness that made him great
his technique and process and ability weren't a result of that, so i'm not sure you'd need that. i might be driven to juggle chainsaws, but it wouldn't end well, ha
It wasn’t! He was already a brilliant detective when he was happy with Trudy, before his breakdown and before his OCD got so bad! It’s the reason they even kept him around afterwards, they knew his skills were second to none. But maybe you’ll actually get your happy case in the movie now even though I‘m a bit scared they’re gonna screw up a perfect ending 🙊
There's a movie that's in production!! I can't wait!
I ugly-cried the first time I watched the ending. I was so happy for Monk. Finally got closure, being able to do what he loved to do again without hindances. Gosh. I love this series. ♥️ Thank you for uploading this!
Not to mention he learned that Trudy lived on in her daughter.
I decided to have the ending song played at my funeral for when I die.
Monk checking the stove with Natalie saying it's good to be sure. Then Monk saying that it happened to him once. Nice callback to the first scene of the series.
He doesn't mind waking up near Trudy's side of bed now, notice his arms laid on her side, he used to leave that side completely untouched, but now that he has closed the case, he's able to move on just a bit from her death.
Love this episode
It such a beautiful ending for Monk
This show was so well written and had heart.
Man! I miss this show SO much💔 I catch every rerun I can❤️
It's on prime video, if you have access to that.
It also airs on cozi tv
I appreciate Randy Newman singing to a piano to sing You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone.
This makes me so happy and nostalgic. It’s my comfort video:)) Natalie getting emotional over Adrian’s progress, the deja vu / inside joke from the first episode and then this beautiful mix with all the best moments! with this truly wonderful song by Randy Newman. Words can’t describe my feelings. Thank you for everything everyone ❤
I just realised the captain was the only person he allowed to touch him without cringing
Because the captain always respected that Monk didn't like people touching him. Leland never touched him unless he needed to be helped. Most others 'pushed' and took offense when Monk cringed off.
No One Ever Talks About How Sad & Somewhat Heartbreaking When Such An Amazing Show Comes To An End🥺❤️
i think this show ended when it had to IMO after about session 9 of a show the writing starts to feel stale which is why i’m glad the monk ppl new that and ended the show at the wright time not to soon and not to late
I love this show. I like that Leland got a Trudy too, I never liked his first wife, now both him and Monk are relax and happy.
Shout out to our boy Randy (Newman) for such a POWERFUL song.
This was one of the greatest shows of all time
Everything about this show, It’s beginning, middle, and end, is just perfect. The tiny little details like how he doesn’t go back to check anything after he leaves, how he sleeps in the middle of the bed, or how he mentions how he once left the stove on. Everything is perfect and it was a perfect ending. These are the rare shows that have nothing wrong with them and make you feel connected with the characters. This is one of my all time favorites
Here's to Adrian Monk;
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until you and Trudy meet again,
May you be half an hour in heaven before the Devil knows you're dead.
Amen
Can't wait for the movie.
So touching the last 2 episodes of Monk, especially when he played the tape that had Trudy's message:)
Spent my teenage years watching this with my Dad when this show was on. The memories waiting for an episode to air on Friday every week on USA network. Best detective show ever.
I love the little call backs. Like the stove bit is from episode one.
I was so happy for him. He finally got everything he wanted in some way AND found peace. Bring this back as a limited time series (a couple of seasons with a planned ending like Dexter New Blood) and some movies and a crossover with Psych. Hell, with Molly too. her dying(?) which triggers his old phobias perhaps? I don’t know! Just bring back Tony and the crew. It’s still so much more you can tell about him living in society compared to THEN.
Not a series, but they DID bring the crew back together for a thing in 2020 during the Pandemic. It was just a short little 5 minute encouragement to stay safe, but it was nice to see them all 'together' again.
Let the good things be as they were
No need to dig up their graves and have modern Frankenstein writers rooms ruin what was once a coherent ending.
After those first 2 sentences, why tf would you want Molly dying?? This show ended perfectly. We need to stop the remakes and finally get good, original show like this again.
On one hand, its a shame this show only got 8 seasons, but on the other hand I think they ended it nearly perfectly.
Monk's phobias lessened and he has a reason to live outside of revenge; with Natalie there to see it, Stottlemayer is finally in a happy relationship, Randy is with Sharona and is the captain of his own precinct and more
There's something to be said about a show that has a clear beginning , middle and end while leaving next to no loose threads.
Just a good ending to a good show.
honestly i think the time was also perfect normally after like season 9 a show will start to feel stale and the writing will get worse so i think that seson 8 is the perfect session to end a show it’s not to short or to long
I love how the tribute in this clip is about his friendships and the way they helped him heal. Natilie, Stotlmeyer, and his two therapists. The heart of this show is friendship through hard times
and shrona
@Zombo84 she was kinda just a jerk. Gave him tough love when he needed it but she went too far
Monk is and always will be, a full class act. It’s so beautiful that the writing, the acting, and the quirks, were just so carefully thought out. And what just made Tony Shalhoub perfect for this role, is he’s basically like Monk in real life. For instance, he likes to keep busy if he doesn’t want to do something, so he could organize a bookshelf for the day. I don’t know why Tony Shalhoub plays mostly small roles, but if he wanted to, he could be a wonderful lead actor. His love for Trudy . . . You truly Feel what he’s feeling! Just to note, I like that it had an ending, but Monk was so great, that they could’ve Literally done this forever. Not many shows are like that. Monk, we Do miss you. And thank you so much for that Covid skit.

I remember watching this with my family and quietly applauding when the last shot faded. Such a remarkable show. Such a family that was formed over 8 years ❤️
What a great ending for a fantastic show. We miss you Mr Monk.
This is my all time favourite show. The brilliant acting, especially Tony, who did not once deviate from character. The writing was excellent, including comedy with crime. “The End” was so emotional to watch and a fantastic way to finish this amazing show. I love that Natalie said to Monk that Trudy sent him a gift. She sent him someone to love.
Im here Dec 8, 2023, and I'm happy to say, this is no longer the last scene ever
I can’t believe monk is back
Yesss! The Movie was good and MONK IS ON NETFLIX 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm glad this show exists. This and house show that everyone has issues. Some can be crazy people, but some can be downright brilliant. You can see they're both completely different peoplepeople, but they're both in pain, hate the world, but hate themselves the most and only had limited friends due to their issues
Adrian Monk not buttoning up his suit jacket. Man on the edge right there, what a renegade!
I remember watching this ending with my mom (we both LOOOOOVED Monk). This ending almost didn't feel real but it was so great. Such a great conclusion to such a great series! And the song absolutely breaks my heart. I've listened to it after some dear friends and family have passed away. Always brings a tear to my eyes.
Monk was a great show from start to finish. Great characters, great story, great feels all around. Thanks to the entire team behind this masterpiece for this.
I remember watching this the evening it originally aired. I have to say I pretty much ugly cried because I love this show so much, watching monk go through all that he did, and then finally pretty much coming round full circle. Just saw this video and was like, oh yeah gotta watch it again. I can confidently say, I almost ugly cried again because it brought back all those memories. I so wish there were more episodes, don't get me wrong, I know they ended it perfectly and at exactly the right time, but I just so miss this show and the character Monk...great, now I have to go binge the whole series again. Tony Shalhoub, You are an excellent actor, but I don't think you could ever top this role.
Masterpiece.
I would have loved it, if at the end where they go up the stairs into the house, we get a ground level camera angle that doesn't move, but we see them going into the house. And in the Distance, we see Trudy smiling. Smiling, then turning around and walking/vanishing away. As if to say - "He's going to be okay now.".
Vielen, vielen Dank für die Abschlussszene von "Monk". Ich brauche sie für einen Kurzfilm "Monk against Corona". Thank you, Monk for all the great time!
This was lovely, and one of only a handful of episodes that I have not yet seen. My Mom loved this show and I almost always watched it with her until it became unavailable to us for a while due to the network change. By the time I accessed the rest, Alzheimers had a grip on Mom and binging the last few seasons became bittersweet and erratic for me. Will always love this show and cast though, and should revisit it all someday.
Seeing those memorable moments from each episode in the past. It gets me a little emotional that I don’t want Mr. Monk to end… 🤔But now I wondered what it’s like for Mr. Monk to start his own Legacy.
“Monk” episodes are as enjoyable now in reruns as they ever were. Still unique. Looking at all the other shows on TV now, nothing compares to Monk. It makes me wish someone would start a campaign for another season of Monk. Not many shows have such a faithful fan base
Love this show so much
I love the callback to the stove gag from the first episode.
That pause when the front door is closed and Monk doesn't check and recheck it is closed ...Priceless !
Why am I crying at his walk to the crime scene?! He looks so relaxed, confident, and at home. 🥺🥺🥲🥲🥲
Danke Toni Shalhoub dass Sie so viele Jahre den famosen Monk gespielt haben!!!!
There are several novels that actually continue past the end of the show that are all excellent reads for those who want more Monk.
I watched the entire series 5 times already. Maybe even 6. And this final scene always gets me crying. I wanna watch everything all over again.
Add it to the list of series I watched from start to finish. No regrets.
just finished binge watching the whole show and with a bit of a wet face, found out there was a movie released last year. So I am off to find that now. Brilliant show.
This is how you end a series. (Take notes, How I Met Your Mother, Game of Thrones, Dexter)
No one will ever touch this one!

I have just finished watching the entire Monk package for....third...no..fourth time? Absolutely my most favorite, the best tv show Ever and Ever. It will pass some time...I'll forget it. Like I already did. So...I will watch it again.
And he lived happily ever after!
Perfect end to a perfect series
I love Monk. I miss it
all that needed to happen was he finally reaches out to Alicia Coppola's character from the Blackout
I would've loved to see that hopefully he'll take the elevator this time instead of the stairs
I know that this is somewhat off-topic, but if you like Alicia Coppola, you should check out _Blood & Treasure._
Hands down one of the best TV shows ever made and by the way my favourite of all
One of the most emotional series endings I've ever viewed..!!
EASILY ONE OF THE "ABSOLUTE BEST" ENDINGS EVER IN TELEVISION!!!
THEY COULD NOT HAVE ENDED IT ANY MORE PERFECTLY.
Right Up There With Six Feet Under & Breaking Bad
The best ending of the best series. Thank you for posting this.😜👍❤️
And yes, I miss you. One of my favorite shows.
"checking the stove....make sure it's off"..........❤
What a lovely ending song by Randy Newman.
I just finished watching it but I already miss him so much
Best tv show ending ever. So much closure, so satisfying.
Never enough of the shou! actually never enough of this specefic episode like it was yesterday, and the song " when i'm gone " it makes me cry everytime i listen to it!!! and after i finished watching MR. Monk's last case movie, i directly cameon RUclips to watch thiis part and listen to the song and cry a little bit !! thanks for this great show and charachters!!! thanks for these great memories !!!
Love from Tunisia !!!
youre going to the movies?!*starts crying*,*monk:*,yea of course i am whats so strange?-its not so strange at all thats why i am crying, this part truly made the ending sound good as heaven lol
There is an episode where Benji's father asks Monk how he can be happy looking at dead people all day. after his wife was murdered and he never solved it. Monk says that Trudy loved that he helped people out by solving murders and that Trudy's death, his inability to solve it and getting kicked off the police force were the worst 3 things that could ever happen to him and that he still tries to help solve crimes in memory of her. In the last episode he gets reinstated as a real police officer and finally solves Trudy's murder this ending 2 of his 3 worst possible things that could ever happen to him.
There are few TV shows that when they ended, I felt like a part of my life was empty. The last episode of MASH. And Monk.
Monk's mission may be over, but the Hunt never truly ends.
Adrian deserves to be happy in this life, though he was selfish or bad couple of time. He was really unlucky man and deserve a little bit of human happiness.
Does anyone else desperately wanna know what that case was that Monk was going in to investigate? 😂
I do.
I'm more interested to know what happened to Natalie's husband
@@iganpparamarta8813 IIRC, throughout the episodes we learn that he was in the Navy and was supposedly killed in combat, but in actuality he was running away from the warzone when he was killed.
Probably the dead body they found at the end of psych
@@BoomGoesMaximus Yes that's what Natalie told Monk in the school election episode. But not made clear if he was captured/killed or Navy just left him behind because of that cowardly act.
I hope one day we get a Monk and Psych crossover. A fan can dream…
One of the best detective series ever made!
I swear I teared up from happiness when I saw the way Monk was walking in the end.
just noticed the stove,he remembered to turn it off unlike the first ever scene where he said,"my stove I think I left it on".
Wouldn't it be great if Monk actually drove Natilie to the crime scene himself, I think that would've been a great progress for him
We love Monk💙
This is the first ever Tv series i started to watch & when it ended i couldn't accept it....MONK.....A Beautiful travel with Wonderful Background Scores....A Teary yet Happy Ending .
You know what?
Songs right...we do miss him - but the closure was deserved, and the series ended at a good time...I think thats something we all came to appreciate!
Could you upload the scene from “Monk Makes a Friend” where the Captain tell the killer to “step away from my friend”? That was one of my favorite scenes.
