I'm Native American, from the Ojibwe tribe, and I found your teachings about dreamcatchers to be very different from what we believe. I've never ever heard of a dream catcher having only 7 or 8 points in the "web". I believe it to be something New Age that might have been to make it look more like an occult star. We believe the bad dreams get caught & stored stones in the middle to be burnt away by the sunlight in the morning, and the good dreams filter down the feathers to the sleeping person.
@ramn24 you can just take a piece of leather and lash them on the web or when you tie the intersections of the web you can knot a feather in there as well.
just so you know as a native american i dont think about infringment on the art done by others. everyone has ther own creative minds and should be able to do what they want with what they have available to them :)
For the record you can get animal hide and branches are very assessable but ultimately it doesnt matter what you make things out of its what you put into it. I personally love the creativity of making a new school one thats why i watch these videos for new ideas however if you want to make a more traditional dream catcher but just want to but the materials most craft stores sell dry Grapevine or if your lucky Willow then you can buy hemp cord & semi precious stone. If any1 wants I can make a vid
@TheologianRBK Thanks for that wisdom. Not Being Native American, I have had to rely on reading and the internet to understand this beautiful tradition. I had read that different tribes had different beliefs around them. I did read that the Ojibwe tribe believed as your had confirmed, but that other tribes felt the bad fell through the web and the good ones were caught. Perhaps this is a misinterpretation in the information I found in my research. Thanks again for your comment.
That's the way we Cherokee are lead to believe as well. I think this video was made by someone who was ill informed on the ways of our people. I hope everyone watching this video looks deeper into the teachings and healing aspects of the dreamcatcher. Please have a nice day.
@AshlessandAnt - I don't think it should matter who makes the dream catcher. In my tribe dream catchers are usually used for children, to protect them from bad dreams. We believe as adults we are capable of handling a few bad dreams. However, it's become more popular to keep dream catchers into adulthood. I still have mine! As long as the belief and good intentions are there - I think the dream catcher will work if you make it yourself. Good luck! :)
thanks this was the only vedio tat really helped me ....... and person down thier. vvv . hes not tryin to explain wat the dream cacher is his just tryin to show us how to make it -.- soooo um u dont need to tell him tat he needs teachings
@Zkilla100 - ill informed perhaps.. we can view different interpretations as wrong or lazy however the beauty of being human is that there will forever be an infinite amount of interpretations and different points of view.. the quicker we are to accept these differences and individuality the better off this world will be and the more cultures, races and traditions will be preserved.
@BeStillandChill Ok so about three days after i posted my first comment i found out that the sinew i have is artificial, made from plant fibers, but it works really good. I got it from my ex's grandma, she's indian and has a big supply, but i dont know where she gets its.
@TheologianRBK I plan on making one for my son.He is one.I read online that they were mostly used for children. That they recieve them as a baby up until they become adults.I want to do that for him.I want one for myself of course just because they are neat haha.I hope it doesn't matter what materials i use as long as they have the material that stands for each thing.Thank you for the response !
@Cyrosian6d9 .. Thanks for sharing the inconsistencies with the traditions. I would love to hear more about the teachings/healing aspects of the dreamcatcher. The information that I have found is very vague and tainted with New Age interpretations. I feel it is important to bring more sacredness into our 'modern' world and maintain respect for the ancient ones.. As I say in the video this is not meant to be authentic just my interpretation of something I admire. With Love Matt
@TheologianRBK i've heard this. This is the reason for wanting one.I also wanted to ask this question to you if maybe you could answer for me to help me understand better.Does it matter who makes the dream catcher? say if i wanted to buy the materials and make it myself ,would it matter? please if you get this let me know.
Loved this. The only tutorial i watched where respect was given. Good Job! (:

Thank you it was made simple to understand and gave me the necessary equipment with ability to create and add to I thought it was a good tutorial.
